Kylian Mbappe | PSG

Silly media hype.

He will never approach those levels.
To be fair Messi and CR7 set the bar extremely high. Rarely get injured and at the top level over 17 years.

I don't even think he can reach Henry's level. His ego is already too big.

Mbappe's clearly a talented player but he's stagnated in a big way and needs to leave France for a more competitive league if he's ever going to fulfill his potential.

The quality of the league outside of the top 3 or 4 is very poor. There's any number of PL players that would get a bag full of goals playing over there.
This. There a very limited number of high level games PSG gets to play which are mostly UCL ones.

I thought he looked much better as a wing forward than as a CF/9. He was able to showcase all his attributes as wide forward, all the trickery, pace to burn, beating players easily. Playing as a 9, the space to run is very less and also time on the ball.

Agreed 100% he will never reach those levels. Messi and Ronaldo were much better at their respective athletes.

Mbappe is more of a Bale type in my eyes, a natural sprinter with a good finish and lightly more nimble.

Even Neymar at a similar ages is/was a tier above Mbappe for me.
Prime Bale had more to his game than Mbappe
Just look at some of these goals

Long rangers, free kicks, headers, solo's, acrobatic goals...

In true Caf style he's now being wildly under rated, to the point where all he's got is pace. Quality player, shit tournament. It happens.

It's a ridiculous comparison.

It's like comparing Neymar to Messi when they were both at Barcelona.

It's obvious when you watch PSG who the key player of the team is.

Neymar is clearly still better than Mbappe.
It's a ridiculous notion. Neymar is an amazing player who consistently turns up in the big games. Talent wise, Neymar is also on a different planet. Doesn't take anything away from Mbappe though.

Yeah, Neymar is much better player. He is magical with the ball at his feet, works hard. Neymar is brilliant at dribbling, passing, playmaking, scoring almost everything. He is Messiesque player, closest Messi like player (obviously not as good)

That’s about it though
I’m probably being a bit knee jerk but it’s by far his biggest asset. That and the extremely positive regard the world has for him. I’ve always been a bit sceptical. His pace is unreal.

I like him, but I keep saying people don't realize the levels that need to be reached to even meet the expectations that the Figo's, Rooney's, Rivaldo's and Henry's reached. That's what a normal generation looks like. Mbappe hasn't and might not ever reach that level, yet people keep assuming that a year of him and Haaland playing well means they would definitely pass that level.
So you've completely forgotten about Rooney at the 2010 world cup, Ronaldo at the 2014 world cup and Henry at the 2002 world cup.

He has to get out of the farmers league if he wants cement his place as a "generational talent". Currently, he's just a glorified version of Rashford. Shocker of a Euro.

Ridiculous overreaction going on with Mbappe. Even if you think his goals in French football somehow don't fully count, he already has 27 Champions League goals, which is more than some classic strikers like Crespo or Higuain achieved in their whole careers, and by the end of next season he'll have passed Rooney's career total. If he carries on at this rate he'll pass Ruud's career total by the time he's 26.

It's fair to suggest he won't reach Messi and Ronaldo's levels - their longevity is almost without precedent - but Mbappe has already shown himself to be at least as good as most of the big name strikers of the last two decades.

The problem with Mbappe is the way he talks about himself and talks about things and himself. He has a high opinion of himself and it doesn't bother me as long you can back it up on the pitch. I hope this turns into a good humbling lesson. The stuff he was saying prior to the Euro was cringeworthy

Must have missed that, what exactly did he say?

His CL record is a goal every 127 minutes.

Rashford’s in a much worse side is a goal every 134 minutes.

So yeah, his CL record is class, but doesn’t quite tell the full story. I’ll argue the same point again, stick Rashford in that PSG side and give him that many CL minutes and he wouldn’t be far off Mbappe’s goal record.

That’s why people should ease off Rashford, stick Mbappe in this side over the past 4 years and the poor bloke would probably be slagged by half the fanbase for being shit.
All of our players will look miles better once we are a fully functioning and more dominant side again. Playing in this United of the past half decade and more has been tough.

He’s just another Thierry Henry. Average player pulling the wool over less knowledgeable football fans’ eyes by having ridiculous amounts of pace.

Absurd to call Thierry Henry an average player, absurd, and you know it.

Okay, he definitely sounds a bit full of himself there.

It’s so weird, when he was at Monaco he was lauded for being so mature and grounded at his young age. That club is poison.
If he played a strong manager like SAF, he would have cut out so many unnecessary shit right now. PSG enables the worst side of those players. What I showed and and paraphrased is a snippet of the stupid arrogant he's been saying since he's joined PSG.

You're not knowledgeable when you post stuff like this

Too obvious, mate. Your "I don't know who he is, let's sign him/not sign him based on the team he currently plays for" hot takes are better wind-up posts.

What was he saying?

Imagine if we had "another Thierry Henry" in our team

Taking the high-pressure fifth penalty was naive on his and Deschamps' part given the chances he'd missed in the game and underwhelming tournament that no doubt affected his confidence beneath the outer bravado.

Some context though as you'll struggle to find many elite attackers who haven't had an underwhelming tournament(s) in their career over the last 30 years or so. In fact just about all of the top guys over the last decade or so have had more than one showing well below expectations.

Moving to PSG looking like a mistake. Too much money, too young and the league isn't competitive enough. His Ego will surely have taken a battering this season. All gone a bit wrong.

Needs to go play a higher standard of league football. Wondering if R Madrid might be too soon for him though. Too much pressure which he doesn't need right now.

He's in a tricky spot because he needs a move away from PSG but he's snookered a bit by the finances and pressures of the modern game. Where can he go that can afford to take him on and wouldn't immediately put him under even more pressure to deliver?

Attitude aside, I think it's always been clear that he's not all that. A very good player who was always very mature for his age but IMO he never showed the talent that Neymar, Cristiano, Messi or even Hazard possessed. Players who have great physique, decision making and end product but some technical deficincies tend to develop not that much after that since they already have the attributes associated with experience. Improving the motoric aspects of the game is far harder after a certain age. And Mbappe always had a bit of a fluky technique in certain situations. That's of course criticism on a very high level since his also elite in the technical aspects of the game but not to the same extent as the "wonderkid generations" that preceeded him. The comparisons with young R9 were always over the top.

That being said some of the reactions here seem way over the top. He's still a world class player and can become one of the greats, especially if he gets his attitude back on track. And you won't find many 22 year olds as good as him. The Rashford comparisons are a bit silly from an outside perspective. No dig on Rashford, but he would already exceed expectations if he some day reached the level Mbappe already has despite being younger than him.

Nah, he's very clearly rubbish at everything except running fast.

After last night he should change his name to Mbebe.

Still an incredible talent but this should be a reminder that he still has a lot to work on…

I don’t think the gap between him and players Rashford is as big as some people make out, though I agree that he is the superior player as it stands.

Pretty much this.

Nobody outside England/Man Utd really rates Rashford over Mbappe tbh.

I personally think that in Mbappe's peak/during his career, he will be in a tier similiar to Suarez or Henry rather than Ronaldo, Messi or Cristiano tier.

There was something special and unique there when you saw them when they were younger, something I don't see in him. Still going to be world class though (he kinda already is imo).
