Saudi move makes too much sense here. Real won't pay the fee PSG want and they don't have any reason to, they are in no rush and they can wait another year as they planned, Mbappe can cash in on one year in Saudi and it's a move that will give much credibility to the league.

Yes, crazy money and all, but its a terrible decision footballing-wise, not to mention legacy-wise, at least with PSG, there was some kind of plausible deniability, "oh, he stays there at his childhood club", "he is french, he likes Paris" and so on, there is none of that if he goes to Saudi Arabia.

How can you consider yourself one of the best players in the world, if not the best, and not want to try it out in the Premier League is beyond me. If you want to prove yourself against the best players in the world week in and week out there is only one league to go to, but if your looking for easy trophies and sunshine then I guess Real and Barca is the place to go.
Players won't see it as an "actual place to go" if it's a one-year contract.
If I was the PIF of KSA, I would have a clause in Mbappe contract to let him go to Newcastle next year for free and keep being the ambassador of the Saudi League for 1 Billion a year.

Its not like this is his last move. He's got 5-6 years of football at the top level. One year of exile makes little difference.
Missing Balon D'Or for a year is no big deal, he'll have plenty of chances in the future.
Mbappe could play for Yeovil town and France won't drop him, he's literally their talisman they don't care where he's playing as long as he's delivering the goods. The issue here is that once guys like CR, Mbappe and the loads of decent mid-career players start moving to Saudi clubs , the idea of a player moving there from a European league in their prime would sound less crazy than it once was. Even with the limited quota of foreigners per squad, nothing stops them from "mutually agreeing" to end running contracts in order to free up space for better players as they become available, like Al Nassr did with Aboubakar when they wanted to sign CR. I just think that if the Saudi authorities are really as serious about this as they have been with other sports lately, unfortunately, they can absolutely do what the US and China failed to do in making the Saudi league an attractive destination for football players and managers. What next on the coffin of football? One of the greatest football clubs in the world being bought out and used for a national sport-washing project?

It's funny, because this entire drama is happening because of "one more year" (the 2+1 contract that he is not activating).
