Kylian Mbappe | Merci.

Mbappe will be 25 mid way through next season. He’s already chased the money by moving to PSG, if he takes a year out like this then questions do need to be asked of him.

Madness

Football is fecked isn’t it.
He’s not turning that down, no way €700m per season, plus he’ll get to play FIFA world Club Cup which is in Saudi and maybe help an Arab team to be the first to win, he then gets to rest for the rest of the season for 2024 Euros and then signs for free for Real Madrid next summer or he’s so f……greedy Saudi will extend his contract by 2 more years at €1bn per year, the football world has gone mad ?

I add a caveat that people thought infantino was crazy cozying up to the Middle East, obviously knew what was coming, wouldn’t surprise me if we see Qatar start to create a similar league with a sister team to PSG/United (If Purchased). I genuinely mocked at the First true club world cup tournament that takes place in 2025 but not now?

Super Rich Arab States will dominate the game, it’s very clear now what they are looking to do - Copy the Abu Dhabi City Model with multiple teams around the globe cherry picking the continents best players and then freely moving them
Between their clubs. Qatar will probably own ; PSG, United, Santos, Malaga, Ushuaia Reds, Inter Miami etc and Saudi Newcastle, Barcelona, Al
I don’t think so. They’re allowed 8 foreigners per squad. How many teams? Let’s say 20. So that’s 160 foreigners. Some of those spots are already filled like stocking fillers, absolute guff. Unless you’re money mad, a player will want to protect his reputation by playing in the best competitions. Saudi is a destination for old players like US was in the 70s
The 8 player rule will change within 2 years to 12 I’m sure of that, then it poses a bigger problem but right now your 100% right, players like Teles are filling one those 160 spots, there’s a lot of dross being overpaid too!

Yeah there is that element to it, but then again they still dont need to spend that much to make that statement. They could make the same statement for half the price and PSG would be more than happy to accept.

Even if it becomes a you know what measuring contest and they feel the need to break the world record for a transfer, they could still do it and still not spend as much.

You can adjust for inflation but no one will care that Neymar cost 220 million a few years back which works out at 250 now due to inflation. The record is Neymars transfer at whatever it was then, if they spend one more pound this week then its a new record.

I think questions would be asked if he DIDN'T take it

I just read the full offer in detail. So they're letting him go to Madrid for free after a year. That's a bloody insane offer

The feck are they smoking over there
No smoking. They pump money out of the ground and can just do things others can only dream of.

Very true. If he goes now he’s never leaving, he’ll be offered 1b to turn down Madrid after next season and more after that.
Question is at what point do they cut Newcastle loose now? They serve almost no purpose to them now sports washing wise

Utter madness
Imagine he accepts this deal, has a freak injury, and is out the majority of the season, only to go to RM for a much lower per-determined fee next year. Surely they would have some solid clauses related to such scenarios.

What on earth can European clubs do?

Super League?

Honestly, I don't think there's any immediate fear - even if Mbappe did go. There's going to be such a realization of the league's standard when they arrive and a sprinkling of top players won't be enough to change that. It will take a decade of investment in all parts of the game/a new generation (maybe more) of Saudi players before there's any essence of a challenge to the top European league's qualities.

But an option could be to tighten restrictions on homegrown players moving abroad/demand clubs play with more youth trained players. If clubs had more need to develop and play their own youth players it would be very hard for non-European markets to compete as it would be hard for them to attract players who haven't broken onto the scene away from their home clubs. It would mean less money in general in the game, but it would protect the current European leagues.

Be exiled at PSG for a season or go to Saudi for a nice kick about and earn bonkers money. The thing is though, can see him stay there for a number of years, even if they agree to him leaving for Madrid on a free after one season, will he be happy to take a 95% pay cut when the Saudi's offer him the same again?

Where this all ends up? Possibly like the golf, Premier League/Uefa end up selling to the Saudi's and we end up with a World Super League thing, very possible I feel

They don't want him to leave anymore than Chelsea and Spurs want Kane or Hazard to leave
The guys literally just been put on sale. :wenger: Of course they want him to leave now because they don’t want him to leave for free.

Why bid 259? I bet 150 would do it and still be the best bid by miles.

Now Mbappe will play 3 years in Saudi Arabia and buy Real Madrid himself.

Same happened with Hazard and is happening with Kane.
PSG offered Mbappe a new deal which is still on the table, its sign or leave

Anyone ever think that maybe he’s had enough of Gulf money controlling his life and he just wants to feck off to Spain as soon as he can? That’s his dream. I still think Madrid and PSG will find a solution
If that was the case he wouldn't be digging his heels in this summer to get his 'Gulf money' bonus. PSG have already made him available for transfer. He definitely hasn't had enough of the money.

It gives Mbappe and PSG an excuse. Mbappe going to Saudi for 100 mill sticks out a mile. Why would he go there and why not sell to a European club. They say 259 and its 'oh well no one else can compete.'. Plus to them 259 or 50 mill make no difference. its going from the left pocket to the right pocket. Plus it helps PSG on FFP

A lot of national rugby bodies have rules that you can't represent your national side unless you play for a club side within your nation. Even if European countries tried something like this (have to play for a European side to be eligible for your national team), it still wouldn't stop the cream of South American or African talent from chasing the oil money.

Ok mate. You stick to your original point of Mbappe isn’t over valued at €300m with one year left and up for sale by his club. If he had two years left you’d probably value him at €600m. :wenger:

What are the Saudis thinking? They would let him go on a free after 1 year? Effectively 1 billion euros for one season.

How much do ball boys, shoe shiners, bodily fluid removers get? Thinking of changing careers.

Mbappe won’t go to Madrid after Middle East.

If you accept it then that money is too important to you to just give it up and play for some club that can’t make similar high money based decisions.

If they do then Real Madrid will probably have to do that in every generation for the rest of life as they always target the best in the world bracket of players.

Yeah, if the numbers he are offered are remotely true, and he goes there, he is not going back to Europe for a fraction of that money in a year.

True, but would they be able to develop to the standards many have without playing in Europe?

These signings by Saudi teams are all good for PR but I don't think there's any guarantee it will massively raise the quality of the league, and I'm sure many will be surprised by the standard of training facility/stadiums. Also, they're all there for a pay day. Are we really going to see them at their best?

I think Europe - EPL included - does probably need to come up with a mechanism for ensuring that homegrown players remain homegrown, and that clubs in return have a duty to develop and play their youth players. I think that's the best way of competing with projects that flair up such as we're seeing now in Saudi.

Also - I'm not sure how long-term their league plan is. I think much of this is done with their WC bid in mind, and a few years of crazy investment pledges may just convince FIFA to chuck it their way.

Think about the seismic shift that will happen if he goes there. IT opens the door for any talented player to move. If the best player int he world can play there then anyone can.

He is priceless at this point.

As I predicted a few months back, within 2 years, Saudi clubs will buy their way into and start playing in ECL, EL, UCL etc.
