Kylian Mbappé joins PSG on one year loan with option to buy

If going by the rumors today, surely Zlatan is leaving? We can't keep everyone happy when there are 4(potentially 5 if you consider Martial) for one striker position. I would like Zlatan to stay for another season but wont mind Mbappe being his replacement.

Is there any chance that we are looking to secure his signature and loan him back to Monaco? Might reduce the fee quite a bit, whilst allowing him to continue his developement. That is, if Zlatan stays, and we do actually go nuts and buy Greizman as well.

This is could be the best case scenario. Monaco get him for another season, we get Zlatan along with Griez (all hypothetical). But I highly doubt the possibility of this happening. These deals dont happen more often especially this considering the fee involved.

No chance at all. The journos around Monaco have been told that Monaco are categorically against it because they have no intention to develop a player for someone else, they sell and move to their next prospect.

They wouldn't have much to lose though, unless they really have someone younger that's going to fire them to the title & later stages of the CL. In which case, lets just buy them ;) Not saying you're wrong. Maybe we could loan him to Athletico to reduce the Greizman fee? ;)

Monaco have players to use and develop, they also have targets. Also what you are proposing is rarely a success, if he is sold he leaves.

Oddly enough, they are already developing half their squad to be eventually sold to someone else.

Yes, they want to sell them and make room for others.

Thing is, unlike Martial, Mbappe has absolutely exploded on the scene. Will cost a fair whack more especially upfront and will have more suitors.
He'll cost what he'll cost. At least we have a history with them. Even for the kid's sake, lumping him into some near world record fee won't do him any favours. Let's hope Monaco care about such things.

By the same logic, if United or anyone really care about him, they should let him grow at Monaco and comeback when he is 21-22.

Of course they don't, they will flog any potential suitors for every penny possible.
They seem fairly reasonable in hindsight in the Martial deal. It's a damn bidding war that might turn them into Paul Ryan.

It's a minor concern of mine to be honest. I ain't some "mother Teresa of football".

If playing great footy is what he enjoys then he's in the right place now. Monaco is younger and stronger than any team in England. I can't see him going anywhere.

I'm concerned too but I don't understand your logic and if I was on the other side of the table, I would tell you to do one because it's highly hypocritical. If you are worried about how a transfer and a price tag could affect a player don't make an offer, it's that simple.

And once again I understand where you are coming from but come on!:D

What number would make you concerned? Martial (who I actually didn't have time to worry about) cost £36m rising to £57m - Wikipedia. I'd be OK with £48m rising to £70m in this case, I really would. If he starts at £60m, I'll be wincing.

Monaco already refused 45m-50m last summer, so it's not going to be close to that and that's already starter money which is what worries me. Who is able to spend that money and have room in their starting eleven for Mbappé?

It's not the money that concerns me but more the context after the transfer.

Pretty much every transfer is payed in instalments, rarely do you see a club pay another the few fee straight up unless that player is that exceptional (Ronaldo to Madrid). Spurs trying to pay West Brom 4m a year over 5 years for Berahino is what made West Brom tell them where to go.

This is why you sometimes get clubs accepting a lower bid purely on the fact it's structured in a way that'd give them a higher pay out sooner and probably more realistic clauses.

I think if we were to get Mbappe, we'd offer the better and more achievable clauses (same as Martial) and Monaco would be more willing to accept a bid of 40m guaranteed (paid over 2 years) and such clauses like, 10m for the first 20 goals, another 10m if he wins the league with us, another 10m if he gets on the shortlist for Balon d'Or and maybe an extra 10m if he wins the Champions League with us, which realistically is very achievable for them to get an overall transfer of 80m, and if we do end up paying them the full 80m he'd be well worth that amount.

As good as Mbappé is, SAF used to chase Benzema around and he didn't light the world on fire when he actually moved to Madrid. And Benzema had better stat than Mbappé. Something to think about.

Benzema reminds me of Rooney in that regard. Both looked like world beaters at a young age and although both went on to be world class and have glittering careers, neither seemed to have hit the heights that were expected of them. It's like they both became great players but plateaued and never really improved.

Lacking 'the best' mentality. I agree completely.

For all we know, Mbappé could turn out to be the same, as good as his stat is now.

If we get Griezmann we wont be signing Mbappe as well,or vice versa. Both would cost around £200 million, and Utd wont shell that out on 2 players in the same transfer window. We need to strengthen in defence and midfield as well, so can only see one attacking player coming in, maybe a proper winger as well.

Some papers are quoting £100 million plus which is absolutely ridiculous

It's a bit of an stretch but we can definitely spend somewhere around 150 million plus the fee we got for Depay and Morgan. I think we can use the money from furthur sales to strengthen the defense and rely on Hererra and pogba for another season.

I seriously doubt he'll opt to come here after he saw how Martial came here as CF and now he's playing as LW, WF and struggling.

Is he considered a bigger talent than Martial in France?

I imagine he would be, he's had a better season than Martial had for Monaco (as well as this current season). He's performed very well thus far in the Champions League as well as being 3 years younger than him. But there's no reason why both of them can't be playing in the same team.

The figure quoted for him in the papers this morning: £130 million. And apparently we're "leading the race", whatever that means.

Lazy, shoddy journalism, plucking random figures from thin air.

Obviously means our tax machines are world class, best in the business

Yeah. 1st cap yesterday.

Let's say everyone has almost forgotten Martial as he plays abroad and doesn't play a key role with Mourinho.
