Koke

I would rather have players who want to play for the club based on allure than someone who is playing for my club because he prefers the City.

Well the issue here isn't really about what you would want but rather we're talking about what the player prefers.

Well I have seen debates like this for many years, but to this day I have not seen anything concrete to suggest it is the case.

Something tells me you would have said Xavi didn't have the talent to become the best midfielder in the world when he was 22 too.
Xavi's natural gifts have always been there for everyone to see. The level he reached in 08 was more him developing fully rather than over achieving. They are not even in the same ballpark in terms of technical ability.
Despite his slow start to his pro career if oliver torres reaches those heights it wouldn't be suprising even if he doesn't have too much of an impact in football in the next 5 years or so, it would be if a koke does though.

Apart from the Mangala one a few posts up. Also it's not as easy to quantify as money.

We were also apparently prepared to pay 37 for Carvalho who is much less proven at the highest level than Koke.

We shouldn't be concerned to overpay for top players, I didn't mind overpaying for Mata. Chelsea already paid 24 for him when he left Valencia, then with 2 great years in the PL afterwards of course we weren't getting him for anything less than 30/32 anyway, so in the end we overpaid by 5/7 mil, so what? If the players are good enough it doesn't matter.

We should be more concerned paying at all / overpaying millions for so many mediocre players (Young and Fellaini still seem ridiculous sinings, still can't believe it what went through our heads back then), that's where we should save money.

For every Mangala there is a Reyes

I also lived in London due to work commitments and hated being there.
London is great when you have a lot of money. I think Reyes just hated being away from home which doesn't make him a great example. Location is definitely a factor, it isn't as important as money or ambition but you would be foolish to say it's a myth. I mean Keane wouldn't have complained about it if it was all just made up.

I believe the notion is greatly exaggerated, I would understand if it was Barcelona or Madrid though.

Barcelona isn't actually that great of a city, it's the club that has the pull there but you won't see anyone choose to play for Espanyol over West Ham. London is as great as those cities mentioned if not more so, particularly if you are from abroad.

Barcelona is a beautiful place to live, much more scenic than London will ever be.

Espanyol is handicapped due to the unfair t.v deal in Spain. On a equal financial footing to West Ham they would attract better players.

That's great if you're a football, you would definitely choose to be in the scenic area. Like I said London is of equal footing to Barcelona and Madrid especially more so if you are from abroad.

I think even on equal footing, West Ham would have the edge over Espanyol. There is just more to do in London, it's not the biggest tourist destination in the world for nothing. Jeeze it feels like I'm trying to sell London when I'm not, my main factor is you would be an idiot for saying location is not a factor.

Nah for me it is Barcelona every day. London is alright.

It's actually Bangkok

We definitely have a chance against Chelsea.

Against Barca not really.

Atletico are going to lose Koke, Miranda and Costa at least. They've already lost Villa, Diego and Tiago and Filipe Luis and Turan look like a possibility as well. Shocking.
And Courtois...

Has there ever been a team that won the league one season and proceeded to get relegated the next? :D

Haha! Don't worry, knowing them some striker for them next season will outscore most of your players anyway :D

Strangely this came up in the last Fighting Talk pod I listened to. In England, Man City won in 37 and then got relegated the following season despite scoring more goals than any other team.

Ha! Not a first then!

How did they get relegated while scoring the most goals though? That's nuts! Did they play with 11 attackers?

Blackpool gets a lot of visitors, but you wouldn't want to live there.
People only need so many photos of Queenie's gaff.
Exactly

Maybe taking pictures of Buckingham Palace and the Royal family maybe an attraction to many visitors but I doubt that would be a deciding factor for many Footballers.

Either way location is a massive factor in where you choose to live. Has nothing to do with the queen.

Can a mod rename this the "London v Manchester thread"? I keep checking this thread for updates on Koke yet all I am reading about are the pros and cons of living in Manchester compared to London! :wenger:

Koke seems more of a Chelsea/Jose player than Cesc. The Chelsea Cesc thing could be them playing Barca I think.

Living in Manchester and playing for the biggest and most glamorous club in Britain is more attractive than anything else on offer in Britain unless you choose Roman's rubles.

Which is why unless Chelsea offer more money we always get the player we want.

Madrid and Barcelona on ''equally footing'' to London? Are you kidding me? Those two places look like provincial towns compared to London. I've spent time in Madrid and its really not that special. I enjoy it a lot but its not in the same bracket as NYC/London/Paris.

London is the second most desired place to live in the world according to a recent study (think it was Forbes).

Being rich in London is pretty fecking glorious. Food, shopping, cultural events etc shit on almost anywhere.

To anyone outside of Britain I'd say the sun, sea and pace of life in Barcelona would walk all over London any day of the week. Plus you'd rather play for Barcelona than Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs wouldn't you?

South Americans prefer Latin countries, culture and climate over ours so they go to Spain
Germans stay where they are
Italians stay where they are

Can we stop this debate about London vs the rest of the world?

Ultimately it depends on the person, some people prefer retirement in the countryside and some prefer city centre.

Being rich is pretty glorious anywhere.

Come on Agent Dave, make your move.

What a busy summer for Agent Dave, I think he will save a lot of time if LVG tell him his targets.
That would be helpful. At the moment he is just going for a blanket approach, trying to convince everyone and anyone to come here.

We've had player-coaches, player-managers, etc. Has any club ever had a player-chief executive?

I estimate our prowess in the transfer market would increase many-fold if we were to boot Woody out and give Dave the job in the close season.
