Gutted for the lad. He was having a great pre season and the fact ETH started him against Real Madrid showed he’s definitely in the managers plans this season. Hopefully he recovers quickly and can pick up where he left off and this injury doesn’t disrupt his form too much.

And that is kobbies career done here, he won’t play again this next season and will be sold next summer for 500k.
Bite

The only good news is that this happened during pre-season and that he won't miss as many matches because of that.

Such a shame for him. He looked set for a big part right from the start of the season but that's thrown a spanner in the works. Hopefully he can hit the ground running when he does come back and he can get himself into the conversation for minutes again.

I must say I am not the cool type haha. But I know ETH is not rushing him no matter what the fans think. He will be eased just like Garnacho, and will start in the cup ties which is not before september. By the time he will be back.

He just got injured during the fitness building phase of the season so he will need to go through that again without playing with the first team. Id assume the fitness upbringing and first team regular season training are not things that happen at the same time.

Its a setback and one a young player doesnt need.

It's not like they don't do any exercise while they're injured. He might come back with one or two weak muscles he's not been able to give attention to because of the injury, and obviously you might expect him to be slightly rusty with the ball at his feet for a week or two, but I wouldn't expect any problems with his cardio. Any luck he'll only miss a few games and still get the majority of the season in.

Terrible luck. Best wishes and hope that when he comes back he soon finds the same momentum he had before the injury

F*ck me I was scared the way everyone was talking made me think he was out for the season.

Is this type of thing going to be a "running theme" that every player is going to announce things about himself before the media and even the club release to the public ?

Kobbie did post yesterday on IG that "cryptic" message about his injury before everybody even knew what's the severity of his injury and made all of us so confused.

Shite luck. Really hope it doesn’t disrupt his progress and he continues on in the same vein.
Although the concern about needing a quality defensive midfielder is back. I suppose Amrabat might be able to fill that void? Although he seems stronger on the ball than off it.

Yeah hope it’s not a muscular injury. I hope the club pushes on with selling McFred regardless.

I'm guessing this makes the McTominay sale less likely now, at least until January?

It does? We still seem to want Amrabat and I doubt we'll be able to get rid of Van Der Beek so there'll be enough bodies and cover for a month or two. McTominay leaving is dependent on us getting a decent offer, not Mainoo's fitness.

It looks like he is injury prone. He was also injured towards the end of last season, i think.

He must be gutted with it being his big break.

I think he’ll still be brought in and play a part this season though. He’ll have reserve and cup games to get back up to speed.

Tbh if he's just out for two month it isn't that bad. I'd have expected most of his chances for first team minutes to come once we were rotating across multiple competitions, whereas we're more likely to bed in our first team across the opening weeks anyway.

Missing 2 months of training might be important for whether he gets those minutes in the first place.

If it’s two months he’s out then that’s hardly end of the world. He’s basically back after the first international break if all goes well.

Has the vibe of an injury prone player with bad luck who will never reach his full potential. Shame.

Yep, getting massive Phil Jones vibes with this here one injury that he's had. Straight to the glue factory with him.

We're in that special Caf twilight zone here where 80% of people are joking, 10% are missing the joke and telling the jokers to calm down, and a particularly pitiable 10% are missing the joke and agreeing.

What he'll miss:
  • The rest of pre-season
  • That awkward first few games when you either smash everyone 4-0 and then suffer a horrible fan backlash when you lose the next couple and the fanbase realise this season isn't going to be a glorious stroll to victory after all; OR you lose them all 4-0 and the fans never want to clap eyes on any of the players involved ever again
  • International break
Won't someone please think of the children etc etc
