The media love in and hyperbole has been off the chain, with talk of “greatest ever” PL sides etc., yet Seabiscuit leaves with just one PL trophy. One. To be frank, it’s nowhere near good enough to warrant the collective drop to the knees and slurp and gulp being performed by pundits and journalists alike. He’s finished below United in the league in nearly half of the seasons he has been in charge. This during an era where he miraculously built “the best side in Premier League history”, and United were being led by Moyes, Solksjaer and company, and racking up their worst competitive decade in nearly half a century..
It’s obvious never mentioned in the media, especially in light of his sudden and tragic passing, but I’ll always be highly suspicious of some of the clubs methodology during his tenure. Specifically the egregious use of medical exemptions for asthma drugs, which essentially serve as legal PEDs or masking agents for other PEDs. Following the media narrative, I’m sure I should be offering instead my humble sympathies to a manager who built the best team to ever grace the land, all while having to do so with a squad suffering a 1,200% increase in asthma suffering compared to the general population. #hero. But at the risk of sullying the recently departed, I just can’t.
Rest in Peace, Desert Orchid, Gone but not forgotten. Running free in that pasture in the sky.
I eagerly await the new national holiday.

Watching the wankfest yesterday it felt more like a pity party for what could have been rather than a celebration of amazing achievement and longevity.
I dunno if I’m projecting or reading too much into it, but I got the vibe he was going through the motions somewhat yesterday for the fans sake. He’s clearly mentally checked out and might have been slightly embarrassed having all the fanfare having just ballsed up his final season.

After 25 years of (mostly) struggling they got in a brilliant manager and played their best football in decades. Won them the title after 30 years of suffering, it's huge. Anyway, I hope he doesn't come back and either retires or goes to manage German NT/Bayern etc.

It’s weird how you guys flick between saying the league is a stitch-up and no team can challenge City when it suits you. And then when anyone tries to give credit to City’s closest challenger (probably alongside Arsenal given the last 2 seasons) you just count the trophies he’s won and refuse to contextualise it in the way I know you can.
You can't lay claim to being one of the best when your title haul is one. You also can't really point at the missed titles when the ones you've missed out add up to the same number a thoroughly underwhelming Manchester United missed out on in the same time period.
A fantastic manager, far better than any Liverpool will appoint in the next 20+ years, and only one Premier League title* to show for it. Auf wiedersehen!
I don’t think you can argue that his end return really puts him up with the elite, but from an outside perspective Liverpool are a significantly different beast to the one he took over and I can see how fans would view him as absolutely central to that change. His two major management jobs have been up against Bayern Munich and Man City though, I guess I struggle to see how you can’t contextualise that.
