First time around it was early on he made the announcement. Players 100% dropped off after that.
I mean, I would hand Alonso a lifelong extension immediately but in this particular case I would be open to a switch of managers

When I heard this news I was so happy. I actually don't think I can put it into words. This must be how that lot felt when Fergie stepped down. It's January but it feels like Christmas again!
I dislike Liverpool as much as anyone (and lived through their peak years) but I have not been able to bring myself to dislike Klopp. Excellent manager and apparently decent person with a social conscience. Good luck to him (after the end of this season, obviously......)
I reckon Salah is gone in the summer too. Reckon VVD might be tempted to leave also. If so, it's going to be a big rebuild job for the next man.

The correct comparison is 2001/02 when Fergie announced he was retiring before the season started. We weren’t great at all that season, although there were several factors. Not that it has any real bearing on Liverpool in 2024.

Issue Liverpool have is that their recent success is down to Klopp only. They remind me a lot of United in Fergie’s last 4 years. Their owners don’t give any more of a feck about them then ours do about us.
Alright, I misremembered it then. Didn't intentionally make it up. I still suspect Liverpool's performances will be very strong for the rest of the season though, largely due to them wanting Klopp to go out on a high.
Because it is Liverpool, I would believe they already have a replacement lined up or discussed. Also it is telling how this news comes out of the blue. If it were at United, the leaks would have happened 2 days back.
I agree, I don't think they'll collapse like we did when Fergie announced in 2002 or when Pellegrini was leaving in 2016
I beg to differ. Even if we don't get Klopp, we are most likely to poach a top manager from another team to replace ETH. I can't think of any decent managers that are available on free transfer. Is a willing buyer willing seller game.
The football his team plays isn't great to watch, but I do find him hilarious and entertaining. Also enjoyed his contribution to that Beckham doc on Netflix - when asked about the infamous sending off and whether he thought Beckham deserved the red card, “Absolutely not. Absolutely not. The contact was minimal. You can see I was hamming it up, knocked over by David’s imaginary kick.”
Liverpool could do a lot worse. It will surely be Alsonso, though.

Aside from hiring Klopp, what have FSG done that makes you believe they are any better than the Glazers? I think it's entirely thinkable they just got lucky once.

Oh my bad, was looking forward to a nice merry go round... But extending contracts surely just means that you'd potentially have to convince the guy and agree to a fee with the club.
