Klopp Confirmed Liverpool Manager

I'm not one bit worried about Klopp going to Pool. The only reason he won the Bundesliga in the first place was because Van Gaal was managing Bayern

No credit to a foreign manager, at least it wouldn't be the first time

False alarm guys, if you zoom in really close on his hand you can see that he's actually putting chewing gum on the plaque. The rascal.

Or at least that's what I wish he's doing on there..

i think alot of guys here are selling Klopp short abit, he is an excellent manager and has achieved very well, obviously doesn't look too good on him that BvB are doing well (really well) this season after last season but then you can ask the same about Chelsea and their reverse, it's football, it happens! Klopp will improve Liverlol to a much higher extent than Brenton could ever achieve, he'll attract a far greater ranger of clientele (a few from Real Madrid as a favor from the Spanish Waiter) so whatever happens, id be very happy (well not me, i wouldn't want to live anymore if i were so unfortunate) if i was a Liverpool fan right now.

#LFC have made contact with Jurgen Klopp camp. The German is open to moving to Anfield but deal and conditions will need to be right

The usual song and dance to make it seem like there was no contact while the last manager was still in the job...

I have no idea why so many people thought there was no chance of him going there, it's perfect for him; Premier League team and a project for him to work on.

Klopp would be an excellent manager for us. He's had a decent break from the game for a while and will be raring to go. Looking forward to seeing him in the dugout and seeing whether he can replicate his Dortmund success in a tougher league

Liverpool would match a lot better to him than any of the big clubs. He has his special strategy - and that is much more a playstyle for challengers than it is for the big guns. And it matches the "workerstyle" of Liverpool a lot better.

Exactly, it makes far more sense for him to go there than somewhere like Chelsea. I would've been shocked if Liverpool hadn't gone after him, to be honest.

I'd assume this has been a done deal for a few weeks. Makes it all the more odd that they didn't just sack him in the summer.

While I hate that there's a very good chance of Klopp moving to Liverpool, I'm trying to see the bright side of it. The character like Klopp would definitely add to the excitement of Premier League and raise the value of it.

But that's about the only positive I can see .... :(

Apparently decided last week but they didn't want to disrupt things before the derby. Would have been hilarious if they beat Everton 6-0 and then sacked him.

This will be a sad day for football and leave us hoping Pep doesn't sign an extension at Bayern.

Sure - every chance, actually.

I'd say it's fifty-fifty. He'll be a grand success or a hopeless failure. Can't see any sort of decent-ish middle ground here.

From a fan's POV, I can't see him being anything other than a success. Not because I believe he'll lead us to two decades of dominance or anything like that, but because he'll have us playing attractive football again. That's success to me. Success is tuning in on a Sunday afternoon and actually having something worth watching.

Except that he isn't. 4 league titles for Wenger, compared to 2 for Klopp. Both of them reaching a single UCL final and losing it. Wenger has a lot more domestic cups, but he has also been a manager for more than twice as long as Klopp. If we look at them only in the last 10 years or so, then Klopp easily wins in comparison.

Except that he is.

Wenger:
Monaco
Ligue 1: 1987–88
Coupe de France: 1990–91
Arsenal
FA Premier League (3): 1997–98, 2001–02, 2003–04
FA Cup (6): 1997–98, 2001–02, 2002–03, 2004–05, 2013–14, 2014–15
FA Community Shield (6): 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2014, 2015
UEFA Champions League (Runner–Up): 2005–06

Klopp:
Bundesliga (2): 2010–11, 2011–12
DFB-Pokal: 2011–12
DFL-Supercup: 2008, 2013, 2014
UEFA Champions League (Runner–Up): 2012–13

If we discount super cups Wenger has double the amount league titles and 6 more domestic cups, so no, it's not a contest yet. He also has a better w/l record even though he has managed more than 1000 matches.

Most articles in Germany about Klopp's interest in the Liverpool job include the rumour that Pep will sign an extension soon and stay in Munich. Supposedly it plays a role in Klopp's decision to maybe take over somewhere now. I've no clue if there's even the slightest bit of truth in it, but I've read it a few times now.

He's a really likeable character, it's going to be hard to dislike him when he's at Liverpool.

Most of the 'Klopp incoming' posts on RAWK remind me of Randy's behaviour in the South Park episode in which Obama gets elected.

He could easily be an unmitigated disaster. Loads of Managers have had success ONLY at 1 club. Vast % of managers fail somewhere or other.

Things are going to change!

Seriously though, how much stronger will our transfer pull be with Klopp at the helm instead of Rodgers, assuming we finish 5th/6th again?

I don't watch German football all that much but what is it about Klopp that is so likeable?

Watch Shinji go to Pool now and tear it up, for a proper Caf meltdown.

Hard to say. United still attracted players with a big name manager while not in Europe at all under the belief their absence from the Europe in particular the Champions League was going to be short lived. Who knows with Liverpool.

From what I understand it went something like this:

Positions to strengthen and invest in were identified. Primarily the manager's job.
A preliminary shortlist was made, from stats, scouting reports and the manager's recommendations.
This list then gets vetted with statistical analysis
this shortlist gets vetted to two canditates
Manager has final say from there

So sure, Rodgers had final say on Ballotelli. But allegedly, his choices were Mario or Eto'o. He wanted Dempsey over Sturridge - with the net result being Sturridge arriving six months later as the committee's valuation was quite a bit from Fulham's (and tottenham's) for Dempsey and Rodgers stalling on Sturridge to get Dempsey in.

I am sure there were other considerations like wages, fees, sell-on value, manager having a minimum number of automatic picks for a position, etc. But that's the gist of it.

The water is actually quite muddied, because Rodgers has always insisted that he has the final say on any transfers:

Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers says he'll have final say on transfers.

Some choice quotes:
“There is absolutely no way a player will come in here if I don’t want him,” Rodgers said.

“I will always be the first person it comes to. That’s not being arrogant, that’s how we operate here and how it works in this country.

“Abroad it works differently where you have a coach and the club will bring in the players. The coach then works with the players he’s given.

“A lot has been made of it but the fact is the process that happens here is no different to what happens at other English clubs.

“We have a number of people, scouting staff and analysts, who will look for targets who fit the profile of the players that we want.

“Then I will sit down with those guys, look at those targets and make a shortlist from that.

“All that work that goes on is of great help to me. We identify players, gather all the information we possibly can and then if they’re right for what we need it comes down to whether they are affordable and available.

“I know the club will go and do the best it can to get the players we want. But it’s very clear that anyone we sign will be because I want him here.”

Exclusive: Rodgers on Liverpool transfer committee and how he will always have final say on signings.

Not going to add more quote because it is largely the same shit mentioned in different ways.

However there are also unverified sources that seems to indicate that he has, to a certain extend, had a bit of his hands tied. Note that these are non-verified sources, so it might be the work of some Liverpool supporting fans/pundits/bloggers/journalist who can't believe how far they have fallen since they nearly won the title, and is looking to blame anyone but Rodgers because Rodgers can't do no wrong. He nearly won the league for feck sake!

The truth might also be somewhere in between. In Rodgers first season the only players that could be considered a success are Sturridge and Coutinho, while the rest such as Borini, Joe Allen, Assaidi & a bloke called Yesil whom I'm sure many of our resident Pool supporters will agree that are not the biggest success.

In his second season he oversee the arrival of Luis Alberto, Aspas, Mignolet, Sakho, and Ilori. Mignolet is someone that he was waxing lyricals about and is willing to flog off long time fan favourite Reina to accommodate Mignolet. It's fair to say that none of these players were resounding success nor would be worth the same amount of money they were brought in for.

I believe this is when FSG start to lose their trust in Rodger's judgment and the fabled TC started to have more influence on the players to bring, sometimes overruling Rodger. This is also the season where rumours of transfer interference started to emerge.

And during the last transfer window, I believe (with nothing to back myself up) that Rodgers was once again given more control over the players to bring in and ship out. Hence a £20 million signing like Markovic from the previous season was loaned out, along with Lambert sold. Judging from the media, the players that were brought in were the ones that Rodgers really liked.

Of course, being given more control also means that he has to deliver success. He hasn't, and thus FSG decided that enough is enough.

I think many enjoyed the way his team played, plus, Klopps character endeared himself to many.

Bit different though. While Liverpool do tend to throw money around, we're nowhere near United financially. Also the fact you were only missing for a year doesn't really compare with how sporadic we've been over the last decade or so.

It should still be an improvement, but I'm interested to see how much of an improvement it actually is.
