Kim Min-jae | signed for Bayern

People are getting really angry at the people at the top of the club for this and usually I can sympathise but in this instance it strikes me as entirely nonsensical.

By all accounts, we have been proactive in making our interest known to Kim but he's opted to join Bayern. This might have something to do with the wage package they're reportedly offering, which some are saying could be as high as 400k per week before tax. Frankly, we'd be fecking mental to match that when centre back is not a priority position this summer.

It's not like you could accuse the club of being too slow here. The guy has a release clause which doesn't become active until 1st July; we basically could not have completed this deal until that date at a minimum. In that time, another club has clearly come in and made him an offer that he considers more attractive. I struggle to see what we should be doing here; going back and offering him crazy money until he accepts?

Its the cafe, you cant expect sense.

By all Italian twitter accounts. Did anyone reliable from the UK who tends to report on us say much about this deal? I don’t recall seeing any.

The same person who is reporting the Bayern news also reported Uniteds interest but just said we have not yet agreed the contract. So if you believe one

It was dismissed by Whitwell for what its worth , Rightly or wrongly I don't believe we had any serious interest in him to be honest .

Story of United interest could be broken by anybody but if the interest is genuine it would quickly get corroborated by Likes of Whitwell, Ducker and in Case of Min-Jae despite it being propped up for quite sometime only mention it got was from Whitwell who played down the rumours .

The point of my post was that the reports of him going go Bayern is coming from the same source. So if you believe one then…

Don't talk sense on here, you need to be constantly slagging off players and staff at the club because you read a tweet and you assume it to be gospel.

Unless we are selling Varane or moving to a three centre back formation this signing makes zero sense.

Same thing applies for Bayern interest as well unless it gets picked up by their more reliable sources I would be skeptical .

This is not to say Romano can't break the news but I find him more of a aggregator of transfer rumors who spouts vague things which are hard to prove or disprove .

In terms of Bayern, it seems that Pavard and Hernandez could leave the club in the summer, hence they're interested in Kim. They need another good defender besides De Ligt and Upamecano.

If I were a ManUnited manager, I'd go all for Pavard. Great player who can play CB as well as RB + he's cheaper. Bayern wanted to prolong the contract with Pavard, but it seems he wants to try out sth. new.

Maybe - we are just going to bring Alvaro back in and transition Shaw to CB? Net spend of zero then. Shaw looked incredible at CB for us last year.

Agreed, hence my post

Exactly — it feels like one the fans wanted but it doesn’t really seem like we had super concrete interest in him.

10 Hag wouldn't want to play with two lefties at CB.

Same here, I've never seen anything aside from an Italian Twitter account, I don't think we were ever really interested in him

400k a week before tax?

Wouldn't that make him Bayern's highest paid player by some distance?

I dont think we can spend better than to sign him this window, strictly speaking about defender of course. All other options look pale in comparison.

shit wont happen for another 10 days....you'll know who he will have chosen right before his buy out clause kicks in on July 1st. I get Munich because you are guaranteed trophies as only Dortmund really challenges them so everything rides on the CL

Varane is injury prone, i don´t expect that to go away next season unfortunately. Maguire might be leaving this summer as well. We definitely need another quality option.

Hard to know what's going on behind the scenes, but the rumors initially were that he prefers United. Then we heard about having to sell Maguire to make it happen, followed by reports that Maguire didn't want to leave. Now this.

Well when you automatically qualify every year and all your leagues best players end up playing for you, you're bound to win three in twenty years.

Wasn't you're argument easy ride? 2 in 20 years doesn't sound like an easy ride.

Easy ride to win leagues/cups and have a shot at the UCL every year. Guaranteed UCL football.

Whereas, at Arsenal, Liverpool, United, Chelsea, Spurs it's not guaranteed.

So you see your team winning the league eleven times in a row yes?
Sure. Still not easy to play for us. I’d argue it’s much more difficult than playing for United, for example. We don’t give people like De Gea or Jones contract after contract for nothing. We are not constantly rewarding mediocrity like you are doing. You play a bad season and that could very well be it. Your goalkeeper is playing like a blind sloth and is earning more than most of our players. Sounds extremely easy to me. And it’s not just your keeper.
Just because it’s easier to get into most clubs, doesn’t mean it’s easy to play for Bayern. That’s like saying it’s easy to play for Barca, Real or Juve.
It’s also much easier to play for your club than it is to play for City. Even though they’ve won 5 out of the last 6 (I believe).

I’d go farther and claim that the easiest route is the one taken by players joining clubs like yours all the way down to the Everton’s and Wolerhampton‘s in the league. Getting stupid rich without ever having to prove yourself in a team with actual top talent at every position.

Someone hit a nerve

Playing in Bundesliga against the likes of Freiburg and Mainz is choosing the easy path, and you didn't have to write a long post to argue against it.
KMJ is a great defender and he will be starting in your team. No one is saying he doesn't have to work for his spot, but it's still the easy way to go when he could've gone to Premier League.

400K a week for a defender and Bayern paying it? Simply can't be true.

Yeah, I don’t like ignorance. By the very same logic your club is more difficult to play for than City. And that’s ridiculous. Especially considering none of your players would be likely to make their first team.
I’m in no way shape or form arguing that the level of competition in the Bundesliga is as high or higher as in the Premier League. That would be ridiculous. But the level of competition at Bayern is significantly higher than at United. You know, the United that actually wanted to extend Pogba, after years of plying pure shit. The man wouldn’t even be allowed to enter our stadium if he had „performed“ for us like that.
Yeah, it’s easy to win domestic titles with us. But it’s about three times harder to make our squad than it is to make yours. Or that of Arsenal, Tottenham and maybe even Chelsea. Competition ain’t exclusive to league matchups. There is such a thing like internal competition.

Every time I open this thread I’m hoping it’s good news that we’ve jumped ahead of the que… I mean could still happen if we submit his release clause in next week. I doubt it though…
