Kim Min-jae | signed for Bayern

I dont get why so many people are getting frustrated by this? Sometimes I feel fans just want to have a go at the club with no reasoning.

I wonder of those losing their shit, how many times they have seen him play?

Also, we as fans cant just want want want, we have to understand the situation. We are in the middle of a very frustrating takeover which doesn't seem like its moving at any speed. CB is low down in our priority at the moment and really, the only way we get a CB is if we offload Maguire first.

Why? we have a finite budget and we already have 2 starting CB and 1 decent backup in Lindelof.

We need to make sure majority of our funds are used in the ST, GK, CM area before even the CB. Why do fans not see this?

Why would the club go and spend £40/50m early in a window for a player we dont need, we can easily find a CB later in the window if Maguire leaves, its not like we need a CB that will start every game.
Chortle Lindelof is good enough to be 5th choice maybe 4th on his best day

Varane is 30 and injury prone and anyway if we are looking at another 60+ game season we need 4 top drawer CBs am happy enough for Shaw to fill in, but we need another CB so we are not having to rely so much on Shaw, if this Kim geezer is available at a good price we would be mad not to.... top CBs are not that common place If we are going to be able to compete at the top table we need 2 11's

Il Mattino saying he’s ‘confirmed’ for us. No idea if they’re reliable or not

We’ve literally signed Casemiro, Varane and Ronaldo in the past few seasons. We signed Casemiro with no Champions League football. We aren’t quiet as attractive as we were during peak the fergie era (mainly due to the lack of league titles and CL football, that will change soon though) but we definitely are still one of the biggest and most wanted clubs in the world.
You should list how many we've failed to sign, if you want a true objective measure.

There's a constant with those names, btw. They are of the age profile that mniws what we were, which carries the sway you'd hope. Take it down a few years and that sway reduces considerably.

We've got a lot of work to do for our name to carry the weight it did, although if Qatar buy us, it'll be dealt with in a flash.

Its all about the Benjamins *kisses shirt*
Personally I think our name has just been used. The only people who have heavily linked us to Kim have been the Italian press, the press here have said yeah we've obviously held an interest because he's a good player with a release clause. I'm honestly thinking we were never seriously in for him though, I reckon it was more of a keep an eye on him incase we sell some of our central defenders, which we haven't yet, and unless we plan to bench Varane surely it would make more sense to buy someone who isn't looking to start immediately. No way was this guy gonna come to us and push Varane out the team straight away

How is there supposed to be a fresh bid if he has a release clause?

My understanding is that he'll have a few offers to pay his clause once it kicks in, there's no logic in making bids when there's a set price/clause already outlined in his current contract unless he signs a new deal with Napoli that gets rid of the clause altogether.

Nothing is gonna happen until it kicks in on July 1st when he'll be able to choose where he wants to go. It's already been reported that he's pretty much agreed personal terms with 2 clubs and there are others like Newcastle and PSG also in the mix/interested

You realize you can rotate CB’s right? All 3 would play plenty here.

Embarassing fumble by the club by the way. This guy would be the best player we signed all summer and probably the cheapest fee too
Like I said in another thread, I think something is blocking us from making any moves at all in the market. I think all these news of us being interested in this and that player is just posturing to keep the fans placated. Wouldn't be at all surprised to have a window like we had in 2018.

I'm not a fan of the club in the transfer window but how is this an embarassing fumble by the club when nobody has reliably linked us to the guy? The only reliable to say anything have said oh yeah they retain some interest. Only shit tier Italian reports have ever said he's definitely coming we've definitely got this in the bag, that's your fault if you listen to them.

We're obviously working on a budget and don't have a midfielder or an ST yet, perhaps soon to be a new first choice GK too, CB is down on the list of priorities.

Now we'll get "snubbed again" stories thanks to the Italian press, who exaggerated how much we were in for him like they always do.

Here's Romano saying he's our top CB target

Neither of the bidders will want us to be uncompetitive and ill-equipped for next season when they potentially take us on, and that will obviously emerge in discussions. If the worst comes to the worst, we have saleable players on the fringes of the squad for cash and FFP, particularly the homegrown ones (McT, Henderson), and with an incoming buyer, it will be fairly easy to get operating credit in the short-term (with costs passed on to club for new owner to deal with),

Not signing players would be monumentally counterproductive and way beyond even the Glazers usual level of stupidity, particularly since there are still lots of plan b or plan c free transfers available. It just means we're going to struggle when faced with opportunities for purchase the best players, for instance if Kane suddenly came onto the market after all, or PSG were willing to sell Mbappe and Real d weren't able to make the deal work on their end, or potentially the Caicedo price if Brighton really are holding to close to 100m etc.

If anything is going to hold up making any signings 'at all' before season starts, it won't be limited budget, but ETH being too fussy/myopic in terms of player profiles - we've got CL, so for a versatile lfw/cf, you think Thuram, for instance, wouldn't sign for us: Rabiot likewise, wouldn't be my ideal midfield signing (or 1 of 2) but he's not going to get a better deal from Juve, also with no European football and facing their ongoing legal/Italian FA issues, and so forth. There are good, if not entirely 'proven' young Cms out there with skillset to improve the side, and available for 35-40, so again, it's about calculated risks...longer term, this is also why we need to upgrade on the Sporting Director and sales/acquisitions process, above and beyond issues with Glazer slowness in giving green light for deals.

Maybe we weren’t that interested to begin with? God knows. With the exception of Mount, I don’t have a clue who are are looking to bring in.

John Murtough is a novice, stealing a living at United.
Respectfully disagree, club was waiting until July 1st to trigger release clause. Why risk paying more when wait until release clause? Because then you’d berate Murtough for not waiting and paying less, like any normal DOF would do? Right? Or are we going down the route of any normal DOF would do whatever it takes to get him in route?

100% signed for Bayern until he's not, just wait until July the 1st. These guys will say anything for clicks.

The Korean Maguire. Jokes aside. Good player but other good central defenders on the market. We move on.

Not everything is to do with the fee, we should have fully convinced Min-jae that United will be challenging for the PL and CL in the very near future and he'll be at part of the CB partnership that challenges for those trophies.

I was starting to think this window was going to be boring and predictable but looks like no Kim and no Kane already.

Going to be a usual summer on here. I can’t wait.

How do you know we didn’t try? Maybe he just prefers Bayern

Blasphemy, players should pick United if they have the opportunity.

It's not just United; it's about cutting it in the most difficult league in the world.

If he wants to take the easy route and win stuff in the Pussy Football League (I will not apologize for calling the Bundesliga that way in light of their recent performances against PL clubs in Europe), that's his choice. However, he better not complain when Bayern will keep on cumulating feck-up after feck-up in Europe.

That's a strange one. Not only because Bayern has more CL titles than any PL team not named Liverpool and also because I'm yet to see a Bayern player complain about Bayern lack of performance.

There some who seem to think that if a player we're linked with ends up going else where, it's because we didn't try to sign them hard enough. Like the players don't have agency and preferences of their own.

If we cannot convince the players from the top shelf that our club is the place to play, we're never going to rebuild successfully, we'll constantly spin our wheels with shite like Fred, McGuire, Weghorst etc.

Somebody probably sent him to check out the Caf to see what was is in store for him - one look and he said feck that and who'd blame him!

What kind of project can Bayern offer?

Dominate their league by poaching the best bundesliga players but completely failing in Europe Like every year.

seems like a great project that.

If KMJ goes to Bayern, maybe we can sign Pavard for half of KMJ? Would also mean more money for other areas of the team.

We’re going to miss out on a good few players this summer with all the uncertainty. Until there is some sort of resolution with ownership not a lot will happen, some players will only be strung along for so long before they lose interest and good chance that’s what’s happened here.
