Kieran Tierney

I wouldn't mind him as long as he's not the only LB signing.

The thought of going in to the season with an unproven kid from the SPL and Young as our choices at LB hardly inspires confidence.
 
I’d want someone who’s ready to slot in straight away. So for that reason I’d prefer Sandro.not entirely sure the same can be said about Tierney.

Can you imagine we end up with someone like Irwin as LB? That would be a killer for us....;)

Did the likes of Keane and Vidic move to our club as a proven WC player? Absolutely not, they developed into one and for me, aiming for young, already well established players with a high ceiling and a lot to prove will be much more beneficial to our side than us trying to sign these big money players that have done it all season after season. It's a model that's failing badly for us at the moment.
 
He’s not ready for the jump yet and he’s not that interested in leaving. He’d rather captain Celtic for half the money he’d get in the Prem.

He actually hasn’t had his best season either, not looke nearly as effective and just so there’s no confusion;

1) he is 100% Left footed. His right foot is for standing on

2) he is not versatile enough to play anywhere other then left back, but he is good at both ends of the field.

Young has put me off.
Sick of fullbacks needing to cut to their preferred foot to put in a decent cross.

Neither are defensively superb, both with room for improvement with Tierney looking a little ropey at times this season and Robertson a bit patchy in that respect at Hull. If there isn't alot between them right now, then that speaks volumes of the current ability of Tierney considering he's over 3 years younger than Robertson.

True. You've also got to consider their contrasting development curves - at 18 Tierney was a regular for Celtic winning the league young player of the year award, while at the same age Robertson was playing part-time in the lowest tier with Queen's Park. Physically Robertson wasn't as blessed as Tierney as a teenager. With Robertson's later physical development curve and Tierney's age, they've both still got plenty of scope to improve yet.

I was going to mention Leicester but as you say they are an anomaly. A perfect storm of circumstances and events lead to that title win. Doubt we will see something similar for decades.

I thought Robertson came through that decent Dundee team they had with Gould? When it was full of youngsters, thought they had a good cup run or something, just remember a lot of noise about them.

Larson,VVD, Wanyama,Gattuso quite a few decent players have plied their trade in Scotland. If a players good enough it doesn’t matter where they are playing.
 
We need a new LB and if Sandro doesnt work out, we are in trouble in that sense. Ghoulam is riddled with injuries and we definitely need a new LB in the summer. I dont see the risk with him, at worse he will end up a rotational squad player for a decent fee. There arent many gettable great fullbacks nowadays, so i think we need to buy a good talented one and turn him into a great one. Tierney ticks all the boxes.

But yes the games I’ve seen him in recently he’s looked really good possibly even the best LB in the league or at least in the conversation.

From what I read, Tierney is an old fashioned type of fullback. He can deliver a decent cross so he's no Darmian. HOWEVER he's more renowned for his defending then his attacking prowess.

In my opinion, that's the sort of player we need. Sanchez and Martial cant be bothered to defend so we need someone that can do that on their behalf. Its a similar situation to when we had Ronaldo. We needed someone like Gaz who would deliver that neat cross once in a while but would stay most of the time in defense to do the donkey work on Ronaldo's behalf.
 
Like the look of him bht He seems fairly young to be a straight up starter for us.

Dont see jose going for him as a starter. Plus the jump from scotland to manchester United straight up is quite big and it might take him. Time.

easy fix for that, let one of the other teams in pL buy him first then pay a record fee for him within 2 seasons.
Joking aside, we can't really be looking down our noses at any league, sure it is a weaker league, but right now we've a failed winger filling in at left back for us. We've tried the proven talent in other positions and it doesn't guarantee success, Pogba and Sanchez so far being obvious examples. I watch this lad a lot, and he's legit. Some people have concerns he'd take time to settle, I don't, I think he'd come and settle in asap. He's strong, likes to get forward but can also defend. I don't think he wants to leave, of course money talks. But I wouldn't be against our scouting dept looking at players from so called weaker leagues
 
Let's get more established player on the left, shift out Shaw and give O'Connor chance here and there there instead of kids from the EPL..

Those players moved to a club that looked very, very different to this one. They played at a time where 50m was the exception not the norm to buy a player. Impossible to compare but I deally you are right but you need a strong foundation of established, quality and successful pros to help nurture those young careers. We know this better than anyone as it's been proven here for decades. Any young player coming into this team is faced with a very different prospect. That changing room needs men and not boys at the moment.....

Dundee United. They signed him from amateur club Queens Park and a year later he signed for Hull in the Premiership.

We paid 90m for a MF who puts more effort in his haircuts, than in a CL 1/8 match. By the looks of it Tierney is a bigger man than Pogba and Lingard combined, captaining Celtic at the age of 20. It doesn’t matter the age or where you come from, you either have it or not. I bet Tierney would be much more of a dressing room figure than Sandro for example.

Then we wouldn't have looked to the French league or the backwater Russian league for Evra and Vidic.

Im hoping that the scouting department did their homework on him . Doesnt matter what league he's from really if he's good enough.
 
In the current market 25m for Tierney is a fair valuation.

Not talking about revealing their discrete sources. A quote from another outlet or respectable journo will do. Just making an unsubstantiated claim is not acceptable.

Well, the fact that McDonnell didn't quote another outlet or journo means that he presumably wrote that article using information gained from his sources. That, or he just copied Castles article from yesterday, but didn't want to give any credit to him.

Yeah all he had to do is say that Castles is reporting x . Instead he left it wide open as if he was supposed be believed with nothing to back up his claim.

So you are comparing a French and English internationals with a lad that plays in a league that's probably worst than our championship? The English lad scored goals in the biggest matches. The French lads going to his second World Cup and played in CL. For some reason fans seem to want to use signing an unproven lad from Scotland and comparing him with players that Celtic could only dream of signing. You do realise that Sandro could probably play in any team in the world don't you? Can Tierney? Sure the potential is there but an alternative to Sandro.....ridiculous
