Kieran Tierney

I like the look out him but we have to be aware that the United ladies could probably win the Scottish league.

So you are comparing a French and English internationals with a lad that plays in a league that's probably worst than our championship? The English lad scored goals in the biggest matches. The French lads going to his second World Cup and played in CL. For some reason fans seem to want to use signing an unproven lad from Scotland and comparing him with players that Celtic could only dream of signing. You do realise that Sandro could probably play in any team in the world don't you? Can Tierney? Sure the potential is there but an alternative to Sandro.....ridiculous
Nobody compared their footballing ability, as you said one is a 20 year old up and coming footballer the others are two established ones. I was referring to your comment about our dressing room needing men not boys. Don't get all worked up over nothing.
Bailly came unproven and has shown he has a much better mentality than Pogba. Tierney being unproven can count for nothing if we take our chances like we did countless times before, him playing in Scotland means feck all if our scouts did their job. And yeah Sandro is a better player currently, but nobody said otherwise. Ridiculous is when you take into consideration that Sandro at 20 just moved to Porto and was fecking nobody, so it's fair to say people wanting Tierney based on his current ability and potential is not that scandalous.

Mourinho isn't spending money on a LB from Scotland.

He can't afford to gamble next season.

Is Castles supposed to be good? I ask because The Daily Record spend all season trying to sell Celtic’s players and there’s something in the article that reeks of that.

Also, he says that Mourinho prefers players that can play across a number of positions butnive also seen articles that say he prefers specialists.
He's Joses mouthpiece

I see that Sandro is actually 27, I thought he was 29 as per the lies being told, down to 2 years left on his contract....hmmm Could be more realistic than I first thought.

With Tierney, might be a case of loaning him back for a season. But isn't Ryan Sessegnon in the mix too? And the same loaning him back. In our current situation, one would imagine one in and one lined up!

Loads of pointless comments comparing someone that plays at championship level football against someone who's world class. Not bothered about where he came from or what age he was, I'm talking today. For some unknown reason you bring Pogba and Jessie into the discussion? No hidden agenda? Not saying anything about what 'people' want, my view is proven quality is what we need now, not potential. We have enough players that we are waiting on their 'potential' to happen.

Didn't he get properly rinsed against Rangers?
Never had the best of games but Brendan has run him into the ground by not really having another left back option,Think i read somewhere he is in top 3 players in europe with most minutes.

Seen quite alot of him and hes a talent and has a great attidude would be a really good signing and worth the gamble.

Who is world class? And what does it matter where he plays right now? No hidden agenda mate, just two examples of two 25 year olds with heads of a teenager. There are countless examples of quality players coming from weak leagues, it's a nothing argument, give over.

We need both, proven quality and potential. Over the years potential has proven much more valuable than ''proven quality'' for us, either you like it or not. We've had so many big name flops and yet people still regard that we can just buy proven quality with zero risk.

It amuses me that quite a few people seem to be writing the guy off just because he's playing for Celtic. People might be forgetting but there's been a few players recently that played for Celtic and are now playing in the Premier League. Sure, the quality of the league up here isn't the best, but it is foolish to just assume that because the lad is playing in Scotland for Celtic that we should be looking elsewhere for a player with a fancier name from a more exotic league. Sandro would probably come in and be very good, but I would be far more excited about going for Tierney and seeing how far he could go in his career. That's not Scottish bias or wishful thinking, that's because I have eyes and I watch him practically every week.

Tierney would be a very good signing for us, of that I have no doubts at all. I think he would surprise many if we gave him the chance to show what he's really about. For a player who is still young, he has a very exciting future and personally I would like that to be with us.

my thoughts exactly.....The thing I like about him is he has that bite in his tackles, he goes in hard into 50-50's. He has everything that Jose likes in his defenders. He can defend, is strong, plus he can offer that attacking width we so often lack this season. I honestly think if he did come here he'd be a real fan favourite very quickly. Nothing flashy about him, just a dedicated, hard working footballer.

Agreed, he is a very brave and tough player too, and I think Jose would love that. He probably would be a bit of a cult hero pretty sharpish, as seen with the Celtic fans who I know absolutely adore him. I think it would be erroneous to let Tierney slip by and go elsewhere.

Do we have any guarantees he will be a different player to Shaw? I don't mean in terms of playing style, I mean in terms of a young player, hitting the big time, and taking his foot off the gas a bit. I know the injury didn't help, but that doesn't relate to his 'perceived' attitude.

Shaw looked like an absolute dream signing when we got him. So great at S'hampton.

You don't think it'd be a better idea to go for a more established player and use our current squad?

Even if we do move for Tierney, which I still doubt, it’s by no means certain he would move.

Tierney is not your typical modern player. He’s a Celtic fan, very grounded professional and the next Celtic captain in waiting. Just because we’re Man Utd doesn’t mean he will move.

I agree with this. As much as I would really like to see us sign him, he's such a huge Celtic fan and such a key player for them it's no guarantee that he would move. It's an admirable trait, especially in this day and age.

Shaw was like that at Southampton before he came to us, Jason Dodd, Youth Academy Director at Soton who helped bring him through said:
"He does make you pull your hair out at times,' Dodd told the BBC. 'You have to try different things to get the best out of him.'
"‘Luke is one of those players where you have to keep on, you have to keep pushing him and he needs to be challenged.’
'That is how you get him going. He is a fantastic player, but if you have to question some of it – his drive, training everyday, and giving absolutely everything."
"‘You are at Manchester United. Mourinho expects you to put it in every session and that is an area where Luke will struggle.’

Just seems to have an issue with his application, I hope he wises up before it's too late for his career. To answer your question re Tierney going the way of Shaw, I'd have absolutely no concerns at all in that regard.I'll give an example of his application, broke his jaw and lost a 2 teeth in scottish cup final v Aberdeen on May 27th, yet had an 8/10 performance from sky sports v England on June 10th, that's 2 weeks he's back and starring in a huge game. Kid has balls....

He'll be on about 15k a week. We can offer him 4/5 times that wage without blinking an eye.

We can absolutely offer him more money, no problem. At this stage though, he might not value masses of money as highly as playing for his boyhood club and captaining them every so often too. For a young guy he is living the dream, and I'm not sure it is all about the money for him.

No chance.

No-one turns down a massive pay rise like that to play for a big side.

This almost straight form the horses mouth

“He’d rather end up on 30 grand a week and captain Celtic than 100 grand a week anywhere else”

I think if it’s his choice, he’ll stay but Celtic just can’t turn down 25 million quid for a defender, that’s 23 milllion in the pockets of the board and 2 million on an SPL level player.

So, it's not really from the horses mouth is it? And it's all well and good saying these things to appease the fans, when the option isn't on the table.

Rooney -"once a blue always a blue" springs to mind.

I have more reliable information on what will happen with him than any journalist. Won’t reveal why, I just do.

As mentioned though, it will likely end up not being his decision. Celtic just cannot turn down that sort of cash. Then obviously the higher salary is great for him.

I know we are one of the biggest clubs, but if his boyhood club is Celtic and he loves playing for them, then just because we are Man United isn't really going to matter to him personally is it? He might end up going for a huge salary, I'm just not convinced it is the absolute be all and all for him.

Fair enough, are you under the impression he is on his way here or staying put then? Yes, I think it would take Celtic intervening due to the fee we will offer them, and then the decision will be more or less out of Tierney's hands.

He wants to stay and communicated as such when he signed his 6 year deal that increased his earnings substantially (there was also a nice signing bonus)

He signed for so long because

A) he loves the club more than 99% of footballers love their boyhood club

B) he knows he still has to develop a lot of his game as he wants to become a central midfielder eventually

C) he knows that with such a long contract, if he does leave, then chances are it would be within 1-3 years so he made sure that no one could strong arm Celtic and they would always get the maximum amount.

he turned down a 10 million move to Arsenal a couple of yrs ago. Money's not everything for him, he's proved that before. As others have said it might be more the club who'll want to sell rather than the player wanting to leave

The Celtics

As my brother is one I have to agree :D

Yea I forgot he recently signed such a long deal. He does seem a really grounded lad and really does love the club.

Like the scousers of the Scotland.

Seriously, though, Celtic is still a big draw for local boys. I still remember us trying to get Paul McStay for years. I’m sure he had loads of top offers but just didn’t want to leave.

Tierney has certainly made plenty of noises about never wanting to go and their fans are absolutely convinced he’s not interested in leaving.

Why he is not in the National Team this time?

Didn’t see him even on the bench last week
