Sad news for him but hopefully this is the end of our interest. Not good enough and not fit enough.
I hope we have alternative targets. Bit concerned about all these injury problems he's been having.
Just to correct you. He is good enough but certainly not fit enough.
Even if he was fully fit, i still think there are better options in our price range of pay whatever the feck we want. Pogba, Koke, veratti to name a few. (in a ideal world where we could get them over madrid)
Thanks for taking the time out but I meant what I said. I don't rate him as high many do and with his lack of mobility, he's not the player we should be looking at in any case.

I agree with you. You get the feeling that once a player is strongly linked with United, we tend to big them up beyond measures. For the amount Roma will demand, we can get far better players in his position.

According to the Mirror LvG is still intent on signing him, hopefully they are wrong as usual.
Out for the rest of the season according to Italian media. Shame for him and for United , I think. Very much doubt we'll go in for a midfielder with two serious injuries to the same knee. His style of play will Probably change and who knows if he'll recover properly. Easier didn't. Only 24 too.
Shame what happened to him, but it happens with this sort of injuries. Once your knee is fecked, hard to get back and stay injury free. He shouldnt be an option in the summer, we have enough injury problems already. Hopefully van Gaal will look to other midfield players.
Just read some of the gossip. Louis better have alternatives because his boy is just about done. What happened to Essien has left me cold when it comes to knees injuries.

But Vermaelen never had a serious injury where he missed a year? He had a lot of small injuries where he missed games here and there, but i cant remember him missing a whole season. If he really is out for the rest of the season, i dont know how he could justify buying him.
His manager confirmed he's out for the season. Such a shame, but we can not consider him any longer, he's been out for almost 2 seasons now.

I think he already chose the alternative last summer: Blind.
Strootman is a Box-to-Box player, whereas Blind is a holding midfielder.
If LVG wants to buy him still in the summer now, then I will have completely lost all faith...

I agree, he'll have been injured for practically 18 months at that point bar a few games and will still be recovering, surely the board will stop LvG after what happened to us with Hargreaves.
There are also quite a few alternatives to Strootman.
It's as good as certain that he passed on Vidal because of a similar serious injury, so surely this is dead in the water now. As much as I feel for any player who gets plagued by injuries like this, I'm kind of glad it means we won't get him as I've never been convinced.
They won't buy him without seeing how he plays again, which is more time, time we don't have. That ship has sailed I think. Also LvG better achieve 4th or it might not matter who he wants to buy. If he doesn't and they keep him on, will it mean another season trying to get there. We should be there this year and going for the league next?
Exactly, even taking the muppetry of Pogba off the table there is Koke and Schniederlin for starters.
Time is the key word and we don't have it IMO, it's maybe not ideally the United way but we can't afford to have missing the CL become a thing after all the money we spent in the summer. Regardless of the top 4 though we need another top CM addition for this diamond formation so we can move Rooney back up top and play an actual midifelder in midfield.
I think every potential signing will depend if we get 4th. There will be plenty of clubs coming in for them who could offer that.
Without a doubt, attracting top players for a second season without CL football will be very difficult.
Surely Lvg wouldnt be mad to go for him in the summer after all this. Without these 2 injuries I think he would a very good buy.
With Fletcher and Ando gone and Strootman out, wonder after who we go now. Van Gaal was certainly ready to have a go at Strootman once he recovers well. Blind is a good footballer but we certainly were after Strootman and so we need another midfielder who will add the balance defensively once we tart to play 4-3-3 next season. But we will see if we stick to this nonsense with two strikers or play with wingers again. But one think is sure and that is we need another defensive minded midfielder..
Its a shame. Hopefully he makes a full recovery because he was supposed to become the most important player in our NT midfield (or even whole team). Strootman and van Ginkel were supposed to be our new midfield but Strootman his knee is in pretty bad shape and van Ginkel got his carreer destroyed by Chelsea (and also a major injury).
Louis van Gaal likes Strootman very much but i cant see him make a move for him next summer with this injury record. I also hope our medical has learned from the Hargreaves injury saga
