It seems that Spurs are about to sign Kevin-Prince Boateng from Hertha Berlin. The 20 year-old midfielder was voted the 2006 Best Young Player in Germany by a jury consisting of the German Football Association (DFB), Youth Coaches and members of the DFB Board.

So his credentials seems good, but really I've no idea - has anyone seen him play? If so, do you rate him?

I thought that died a death a couple of weeks back. Spurs offered £5M and it was turned down or Hertha wanted £5M and you wouldn't pay it.

Not sure of the exact details as to what has happened or what the deal now involves, but reliable Spurs ITKs say his signing will be announced in the next few days.

Those blokes in the pub on Tottenham High Road again. According to the German press a fee was agreed but the deal broke down over personal terms. he wanted a flat £20K/week and you were offering £12K + bonuses.

Not sure where they hang out - one is rumoured to live in a tree but that's another story.

Anyhow, it's the same blokes who said that Bent was a nailed-on certainty months before it happened and predicted the same of Kaboul many weeks before it was announced.

Nah, there's been some wrangling over the transfer fee apparently, but not over his personal terms. By all accounts he's very keen to come.

So no one's seen him play? That's disappointing if so - I was hoping for some eye-witness (or at least TV eye witness) feedback.

ive seen him play for like half a match, but im on a german football forum and he is highly rated so is his 18 y.o Brother Jerome (defender). they are half Ghanaian half German they both want to represent Germany at international Level with Ghana being second choice. he is a CM they compare him to Effenberg as he can attack and defend. he is also compared to him because he is a troube-maker and very very arrogant. i will ask for some more info on him and post it here later.

I have him in my Bundesliga fantasy team

hope this helps

I've seen him play, he's a very powerful, all-action midfielder, good strength, good engine, and good long range shot. If i would liken him to anyone, perhaps a young Steven Gerrard would be appropriate. He's impressed me when i've seen him, infact, Germany have quite a few promising kids in their youth team.

Box to box??

Great stuff ... 'a young Steven Gerrard ' .. like the sound of that ... thanks for the info/views.

According to Spurs ITK he arrived for a medical with us earlier this evening. So fingers crossed I expect an official announcement in the next couple of days.

Lennon, Boateng, Huddlestone, Taraabt ... we've got a lot of potential coming through/into our first team squad midfield pipeline!

He's featured a lot in our 4 pre-season games so far, scored once with 1 assist and has generally impressed quite a bit ... was voted Man of the Match in our first game against the Orlando Pirates (S.Africa).

Based on pre-season it seems like he's being fast-tracked into a regular place in our 1st team squad and I wouldn't be surprised if he features quite a bit for us this coming season.

His agent goes into hyperdrive about him (OK, he's his agent and is paid to talk up him up):

"In France it is simple, he is considered as the new Zidane," Raba told BBC Sport. "He is exceptional, he is one of the most talented young players in France, perhaps the most. "Adel wants to work and succeed with Tottenham. He wants to play and for that he has to do well at training and convince the manager. "He has a good mentality - he knows that he has to work to succeed even if he has the quality."

Things are looking good and I can't wait for this coming season to kick off!

He fecking wants to be I've put him in my Dream Team...

Yes, quite. Unless Spurs change their policy, he'd probably be there for no more than two years, he looks the part.

Taraaby looks good from what i've seen of him, very technically gifted kid. Looked good in his cameo at Stamford Bridge last season too. Should have a decent future.

Tottenham sign midfielder Boateng
Kevin-Prince Boateng
Boateng had been at Hertha Berlin since he was seven years old
Tottenham have completed the signing of midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng from Hertha Berlin.

The fee for the Germany Under-21 international is undisclosed, but is thought to be in the region of £5m.

Boateng, 20, was voted Germany's best young player in 2006 and made 43 appearances for Hertha.

"In Germany he is regarded as one of the biggest talents, we recognised this and went in for him," Spurs boss Martin Jol told the club website.

"You could compare him with the likes of Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone in that he is an exciting player for now and the future.

Maybe we're in for a new kind of 'Gazza'

FransraadgeverNL

"He is an attacking midfield player, very strong and that is one of his main assets."

Spurs saw off competition from Sevilla to make Boateng their sixth summer signing.

"It has been my ambition to play in England, I am 20 now and am about to quickly realise my dream," said Boateng.

"I know that Spurs are a team who like to play offensive football. The club want to climb higher next season and I want to be a part of it.

"I watched the Premier League regularly in Germany, it is the most famous league in the world and I have always enjoyed it."

Yippeeeeeeeee !!!!!

Welcome to the club KP - both we and you have made a smart move! Onwards and upwards!

I keep hearing a lot of stuff about this Taarabt lad, is he any good?
According to his agent he's maybe the best young French player bar none, but then his agent is paid to build him up.

According to Daniel Commolli, our Director of Football, who is French and knows the French market inside out, he's going to be a big star.

All we really know so far is that he's made 2nd half appearances in 2 or 3 league games towards the end of last season, plus has featured heavily in most of our four pre-season games so far, and has looked pretty good on all occasions.

But he only turned 18 two months ago, so there's a big danger of too much expectation too soon. I think he'll be a regular part of our first team squad this season and see a fair amount of playing time. Then we'll know better as to how good he could become.

He's an attacking midfielder, mainly right-footed, and best suited to central or right midfield, but has also played well for us in pre-season in LM. Skilful on the ball, likes to drive forwards, clever touches, good dribbler, likes to take a shot, good passer ... but he tends to hold onto the ball too long at the moment and try to do too much himself.

Boateng, another midfiler
Apart from one or two who mainly play for the reserves and rarely feature in the first team squad, when Murphy is sold in a week or so, plus possibly Routledge to follow, that'll leave us with eight midfielders:

Zokora, Huddlestone, Jenas, Lennon, Taarabt, KP Boateng, Tainio and Malbranque

How many do United have?

According to youself, that's 8 plus Murphy, Routlege and the two in reserves, whoever they are.

That's 12 isn't it??
