Kevin Pietersen

The way Pak mauled England, it was clear they were no where near close to the best test sides of all time. Even current SA side don't make the grade or get close to it.

Top three sides are a bit of much of a muchness, that's only because Oz aren't the powerhouses of world cricket anymore.

That's good for the game actually. Only issue is none of the top sides seem to be good enough to cope in conditions alien to their own which is pathetic. Forget about winning, they can't even compete.

SA?

1-1 in India. Going to be 2-0 in England. 2-0 in NZ. 2-1 in Aus with much the same side.

Didn't play in Sri Lanka or Pakistan yet.

Yeah they are looking better at it than Eng and India. Let's see if they can maintain the consistency.

That's their problem, isn't it? It's not an issue of skill or technique. They're just not consistent. They're as likely to get rolled over at home as they are away.

They drew 1-1 with the worst Sri Lankan side in 20 years at home and comfortably lead a dominant-at-home English side 1-0 after 2 tests.

Even when we drew 1-1 in SA, their win was by a huge margin and then they capsized to us in the next test. If they played the other tests like they played their 1st, would've been 2-0 at least.

Yeap.. can't get to no.1 for the same reason.

They're an odd case. I'm trying to think through their recent results and they seem to do better away than at home.

Still the best current team I think. On paper definitely.

And he's apologized. Hope that's the end of it. It's the only thing cricketing news being carried online atm.

Having seen Strauss' interview earlier, it's quite clearly not the end of the matter. Interesting that he used the terms "trust" and "mutual respect", which echoes the words used by the ECB in the earlier press release.

Kevin Pietersen is a seriously over-rated player..

This could have been sorted out between closed doors, poor form all round. England look like they'll lose their main match winner. This for me dates back to the whole Peter Moores saga and Pietersen's recent retirement has provided a catalyst, it really does look like he has no friends in the ECB but he is a bit of cock. The biggest misconception in sports though is that teammates all have to be best mates, that's bollocks.

Seems like he's asked England to investigate Swann and Anderson. Its really difficult to see a way for him to come back into the team.

I hope he takes Trott, and Kieswetter with him in exile. Baffling how he plays in one day cricket ahead of Matt Prior. With Trott, it's a personal dislike of his batting style.

I actually prefer Kieswetter as a one day cricketer, and he's such a natural wicket keeper its great to watch despite Prior improving massively in that area.

If I was an England selector I'd be getting Northeast in now to open the batting, I think he's figured it out and his time has come.

Not sure how I feel about this (couldn't work out how to embed it):

I know he's reading it & I only heard it once on the radio this morning but it sounded like someone had written it for him & he was reading it, maybe not that heartfelt.

It's like he's still wanting to be the centre of attention.

I'm not sure I really want him back but if he can prove he can get on with everyone then I hope it works out alright.

Let him be the centre of attention, who gives a feck. As long as the rest of the team is happy and everyone does their job, let him have the attention.
