Kevin De Bruyne

Revisionism at its best. Kaka in his prime was unbelievable at passing. It’s easy to forget as his peak was relatively short.
I didn't say he had a poor passing range, just not as good as KDB and not what his game was built on

I think his passing range was very similar to KDB. But agree that that wasn’t the key element of his game so he never really had to show it. But he did occasionally to prove he had it in his locker.

Of course it's hyperbole. Nobody truly wins by himself in football. Still Kaka dragged them through the group stage, Celtic and United. And was also a big factor against bayern and liverpool.

De Bruyne for all his qualities has yet to have that kind of impact on a winning side(he did at wolfsburg tbf, but that's a level below)
He has to do it in the CL to reach those levels. But it's difficult to stand out as a match winner in a team with so many match winners. There was a period under Prllegrini where he was regularly deciding games but I'd argue there hasn't been much of a need at City.
I agree he hasn't done it at the level Kaka did but I think he has it in him. Also when I say match winner, I'm not exclusively talking about the goal scorer. I mean some who regularly decides games.

that's the definition. But Kaka stood out more, even in previous seasons where the whole team was great(and he had Pirlo, Seedorf, Sheva, Rui Costa and Inzaghi) he still stood out as much or more than De Bruyne did this season for city

Kaka is a strange player to compare KDB with. Their styles are so different. Kaka didn’t have the range of passing KDB has. Kaka player at devastating speed too. Hazard is closer to Kaka from the Belgium team and even then their not that similar. I wouldn’t even say KDB is a number 10. Just like Pogba I think both players pure #8s.

Well he's not a pure 8.

Both City and Belgium now have used him as a false 9 at times.

He was a 10 in Germany.

Pep is now using he and Silva as pretty much half and half 8-10s. They both advance into the hole when City have the ball

He can play in many roles and isnt a pure anything.

If Belgium pulls it off and wins the WC I think there is no way deny him the next Ballon d'Or. Absolutely brilliant player. Still furious we didn't try to get him. Or if we tried that we failed.

Imagine how you’d feel if he already played for your club but you sold him -_-

That shot for the 2-0 was insane, did anyone see a speed measurement of it?

Kaka played as a shadow striker during his Balon D'Or season. So it does not make sense to compare him to De Bruyne.

Don't think there's a player with better technique when striking a ball. You never see his freekicks over hit or his shots going over the bar. What's even better, he can do it with either foot. Incredible player.

Like this?

KdB is the kind of player that would slot into any team in the world and make it better, and he’s the kind of midfielder that wins you trophies... sadly playing for the wrong team right now. What impresses me the most is his work ethics and grit, he has the skill of a world-class player and the approach of a grifter.

He's actually been a bit naff at the world cup, barring the Brazil game where he was very good in the first half. He's wasted the ball more times in each of the other games than he does in half a season at City. Definitely doesn't seem to benefit from playing deeper even though he does have decent positional discipline.

Martinez needs to play him on the wing/attacking mid free role, like he did against Brazil.

KDB to me is an eptiome of a modern day midfielder..the next phase to the likes of xavi and iniesta..I do think he deserves a running for Ballon D'or for his recognition..whether that happens is another matter.
i am just assessing his overall play and ability and just not this tournament only.

The other teams have their own KDB in Eriksen, Isco, James, Coutinho, Dybala, Draxler, etc. Do you think Pogba is that player for us, or we need to sign an attacking midfielder? If that the case, who would you sign?

He’s phenomenal. Never seen such a direct midfield player who posed a threat whenever he gets the ball. Attacking midfield has a lot of unquantifiables bu definition. There is praise for ‘keeping possession’, ‘switching the play’ or just first-touch or dribbling. Kevin is a midfielder who looks to take the quickest route to the opposition goal whenever he gets the ball.

He’s looking to score directly, or play a pass that will hopefully lead to someone else scoring all the time.

Put in a few decent crosses but his all-round game was average at best.

Hazard was the biggest threat for Belgium tonight.

Not good enough really. Lukaku had such a frustrating evening and it was only going to work if KDB/Hazard could use the space behind him. They didn't - KDB in particular.

Most overrated player in a long time. Really, really bad whole tournament except Brazil game.

is it weird that everyone looks so brilliant in Pep's City system but average for their country?

Lol, like flies to shit. Pretty funny.
He's probably one of the most highly rated players on this forum which is capable of being somewhat sensible amidst all the football rivalry stuff (unlike blue moon). He's getting called out for having a rooney bottom level performance on the big stage, just as everyone here was salivating here over him after the quarters.

73% pass success. Simply not good enough for the player who should've controlled the rhythm of the game for Belgium.

Didn't play well but mostly had to play out of position tonight.
