Kevin De Bruyne

He honestly plays football 2 seconds into the future compared to the other players on the pitch. By the time you see the ball is played up to De Bruyne he's already turned a good pass onto another teammate in a dangerous position on the counter.

Usually you'd think at some point trying to accelerate moves like that will end up with a bad pass that the opposition intercept. Not today.

Best season where? In Germany?

I'd argue his past season was an even better performance.

It wasn't. He had an Maradona effect on his teammates that season.

Plus last season was great, but could have been better. He was disappointing in the CL when it counted.

Tin tin was great tonight.
No one on Belgium side bar Courtios played really well on second half, so nothing wrong with him.

I can't fecking believe that we let City get him from Wolfsburg with absolutely zero interest from ourselves. Busy indulging LvG's foolishness at the time when we craved a player like him.

He could well win the Ballon D'Or before Neymar does, if City improve in Europe. He's that good. Every shot, every pass, every touch is with pinpoint accuracy, frighteningly good.

Would probably have been sold by Mou if he was here so I guess it kind of worked out for him.

It's like watching Kaka at his peak. Every pass is perfectly weighted. Each shot is hit with pin point accuracy. The perfect number 10.

He's pretty good. But many of his shots are wide off the mark. And his passing was better prior to March. Since then his form has dropped and he hasn't quite regained in the WC games so far.

If Belgium pulls it off and wins the WC I think there is no way deny him the next Ballon d'Or. Absolutely brilliant player. Still furious we didn't try to get him. Or if we tried that we failed.

For 2/3 of last season, absolutely. He was having an incredible season and was considered the best midfielder in the world. But he lost form and didn't finish the season brilliantly. Now he is excellent but not brilliant/immense/fantastic for me. Big games are coming for him if he is to compete for Ballon d'Or.

I think he is easily the best midfielder in the world.

Not easily. Luka Modric is still around and keeps winning Champions Leagues. He is the best number 10 though, if he is allowed to play that position.

Was his first brilliant game this tournament (which tends to be forgotten) but it's also the first game he's been used properly to be honest. If he follows the suit in the next 2 games he'll have had an outstanding WC.

His poor form has helped Belgium to a semi-final. Not too shabby a floor, eh?

Amazing player but this is hyperbole. He's not Xavi - pretty sure he lost the ball even more than Sanchez last season so every pass is not perfect. I love KDB, but it's funny how you'll get this general narrative that he's perfect and everyone ignores the bad passes/shots/dribble attempts, etc but remembers the good, whereas a guy like Pogba everyone does the total opposite and watches with an critical eye ready to pick at every little thing and ignore the great unless it's something flashy.

I think it's still fair to say until the first half yesterday we haven't seen the KDB from September to late February.

I think Balon D'Or talk needs to be hit on the head. Firstly its over the calender year so his late 2017 form doesn't count. In terms of BDO voting, he's been at his very best for 2 months in the voting period, still good but not unreal for about 4 months. He'll need an amazing finish to the WC to be in the final 3 just winning it won't be enough. I think it'll be Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar (will be undeserved) or Salah (if he has an amazing start to 2018-19). An outside chance for maybe Modric if Croatia win the WC (because he'll have won WC and CL in the same year), maybe Mbappe or Griezmann too if they score another 3 or 4 goals in the final couple of games and France win.

I agree but he plays a much higher risk game than any of those players though. He makes tons of mistakes but he plays the risky ball more often than not. It's actually the reason he can play poorly and get 2 assists, because he will literally miss a ton of passes but still put in 2 worldies or great through balls.

He missed alot v Panama but still set up a couple of great chances, same vs Tunisia and then got a beautiful assist. Had a poor game v Japan and created that decisive break. 3 games where he gave 5/10 performances. Last night for 45 minutes he was brilliant, 2nd half he was okish in a poor Belgium second half but he still decided the game. I think its why he's undroppable and being shoehorned into a deep lying midfield and now front 3 position for Belgium.

The best part about him is even when he is not having his best game, he still somehow manages to have a game changing moment. Really top player.

Forget about Kroos or Modric, this De Bruyne is currently the best midfielder in the world, I rate him almost as highly as Pogba (the good one).

You're right.
Many times I've sat and watched him for 60-70 minutes and thought to myself "Ginger Kev's off colour today".
A short time later he's scored or set up a superb goal.

It's between him and Modric for me. I think Pogba will eventually get there.
Pogba will be there if france wins the world cup. Problem is people have been extra critical when reviewing pogba. Pogba was unfortunate that he got injured at the wrong time last season when he was doing so well. He needs one consistently good season and his stats will automatically look great. Maybe people would have appreciated him even more had he playing for barca or madrid.

Has that rarest of qualities, the ability to create a goal out of nowhere at any moment. Even in games where he plays badly(see Japan).

When he plays well he's a destroyer of worlds.

Phenomenal talent this lad.

But it is also clear that Fellaini's presence allows him the freedom to get forward and destroy opponents.

He’s a terrific player, and in a similar way to Silva - I can’t dislike him, despite playing for City as he plays football the right way and seems like a very likeble guy and good sportsman.

He's shite in a midfield 2 with Belgium.
But yesterday he was good higher on the pitch.

exactly my type of CM, love explosive midfielders with a great shot and good passing range with a bit of bite, the guy has it all just maintain the form thoughout the whole season and we might talk about some baloon d'or nominations for sure

Don't think there's a player with better technique when striking a ball. You never see his freekicks over hit or his shots going over the bar. What's even better, he can do it with either foot. Incredible player.

Great comparison. Not as elegant but equally devastating.

Not a bad comparison, but Kaka was more of a scorer, and had the pace and dribbling De Bruyne lacks

Hes nothing like Kaka! Kaka had nowhere near the range of passing of KDB but he was more mobile and was a huge goal threat.

He absolutely did. He just didn't flash it as much

That's a stretch. Milan had a lot of top performers in that campaign.
Of course it's hyperbole. Nobody truly wins by himself in football. Still Kaka dragged them through the group stage, Celtic and United. And was also a big factor against bayern and liverpool.

De Bruyne for all his qualities has yet to have that kind of impact on a winning side(he did at wolfsburg tbf, but that's a level below)
