I'd rather buy Cillissen than Kepa to be honest. Kepa is all about potential and what if he flops like Karius? 80M wasted. Just buy an experienced keeper for now and spend the big money later.
Not sure. They have already signed players this summer, so this will have blindsided them a bit.Herrerín is a good option.what more basques(not necessarily gk) can you find in the market?
80m€ is too much for Kepa.Big deal for Athletic although the money is not exactly their priority.
If Chelsea knew that Courtois didn't want to renew why didn't they fix the GK position before?
We definitely don't have a "shambles of a defense." Our defense was not really any worse than those around us last season. With Sarri playing a much more possession oriented style we won't face as many shots on target either. The money is no good while they cannot replace the goalkeeper. Good luck to him with that shambles of a defence in front of him. I hate Chelsea.
They now have Herrerin as first choice I presume, I am sure they have loaned out Unai Simon for the season, so god knows who the backup will be. It has severely weakened them.
Makes you wonder what De Gea would go for in today's market. Over 100 million Euro's surely? He's a good keeper, but not that good yet. I think he might struggle initially but he'll come good. Don't see him becoming best in the wold good though
I said the same to my friend today.Part of me understands Courtois wants to live closer to his kids but if Real were not interested, would he be asking for a move to Rayo Vallecano? I would guess his kids would be less important to him in that situation.
Re Kepa, honestly I know nothing about him. Heard the name when he was linked with Real.
Gotta be better than Caballero and and Rob Green though!

If you can get both, you go for it which is Real Madrid option. Yes. It's an excuse to the public but doesn't make it wrong. Football is a lesser scaled political play. You don't let him leave then in the future you would have trouble signing players as they would consider Chelsea unreasonable when they need to gear toward something else in their personal life. There may be still sincere players (I hope)Part of me understands Courtois wants to live closer to his kids but if Real were not interested, would he be asking for a move to Rayo Vallecano? Kepa is good goalkeeper, very constant.Lezama was always a good academy for GK, although with the previous clause the signing would have been more rewarding. There is a lot of inflation in football. Today 20, tomorrow 80.Part of me understands Courtois wants to live closer to his kids but if Real were not interested, would he be asking for a move to Rayo Vallecano? So he played with you until Madrid finally decided.I didn't know that he cheated her.He doesn't look exactly like a Don JuanCourtois has properly dicked over Chelsea to be fair. Quick recap:
Also, this notion that he just wants to be close to his kids is bollocks, he cheated on and dumped their mother whilst she was pregnant, now he's some sort of model father? Nonsense.
- After the Nou Camp fiasco he said he's close to signing a new contract
- Delay delay delay end of the season and he still hasn't signed the new contract, a lot of noise in the media about Chelsea looking to sell him, he plays the stupid victim card saying he has no idea why the club would look to move on from him despite his antics and open pining for Madrid
- Excellent World Cup, in an interview he said even if he doesn't sign a new contract Chelsea wont bench him because he thinks he's too good & that he'd be willing to play out the last year of his deal
- Understandably Chelsea got complacent about getting a new GK, knowing there's an option to just let Courtois run down his contract. Liverpool sign Alisson without serious competition from Chelsea.
- Now he's pulled this crap & gone AWOL, leaving the club in a horrendous negotiating position for a new goalkeeper with less than 3 days left in the window
You would assume so. I'd say closer to €120mMakes you wonder what De Gea would go for in today's market. Over 100 million Euro's surely?
Yeah I'd agree with that. It'll be interesting to see how he adapts to the Premier League too. Wonder if he has that skillset in him. He's got the potential but unclear whether he'll achieve it. Probably was about the 3rd best keeper in Spain last year after Oblak & Ter Stegen (given Navas' patchy league form & Asenjo not having a brilliant season).
For what it's worth, Sarri has apparently focused on the GK situation of late, identifying a number of candidates and supposedly calling Kepa "the perfect modern goalkeeper" and his first choice replacement (from Pedulla so take with a feck tonne of salt):

Keepa!Kepa sounds like a Blitzball player from FFX.

You prophet! As Bilbao are my Spanish team I am well pleased. Just go after Courtois, that's a good Perez.
Was hoping that was Kepa staying where he was and same with DDG. Not very happy. Athletic Club need someone who can put the ball in the net. They have Aduriz but the others don't contribute anywhere near enough. Anybody know of good Basque strikers? You prophet!
crazy.
Don't get why they didn't just trigger Oblak's release clause if they are already at that amount.
crazy.

I think it's probably time Bilbao followed Betis' lead and abort this policy. Was hoping that was Kepa staying where he was and same with DDG. Not very happy. Many people in Spain want Kepa to start ahead of De Gea for Spain, for good reasons.Maybe Kepa thinks he might have more chance becoming Spain's keeper going to Chelsea. He will be up against DDG, who will need to be up to his usual high standards
Because Oblak has something to say too?

Just unsustainable in the modern age.
Be able to watch them both closely this season. Many people in Spain want Kepa to start ahead of De Gea for Spain, for good reasons.

Shame if they have to, but as you say does it work in this day an age when other Spanish clubs just sign the best foreign players that are available to them.I think it's probably time Bilbao followed Betis' lead and abort this policy.
