I think that is the case. Also Inaki Williams signed a contract the other day for the same length with a slighty higher clause which goes up over the term of the contract.
Surely a keeper shouldn’t be that high on Real’s list of priorities at the minute?

Good on Kepa, but I hope this doesn't mean that Madrid start pursuing de Gea. Even if we take the option of extending de Gea's contract by an extra year, his contract will be up in 2020 (in 2 years come the summer). Madrid will likely start making moves on him then, so let's just hope Madrid decide primarily to go after Courtois, who'll only have 1 year left on his contract come the summer.

They are after a new keeper regardless of needing one or not. Marca has been hammering away at the 3 targets for a long time... The longer Dave's contract goes unsigned, the more it'll be hyped up.

Madrid won't buy a keeper this summer. They'll have to replace Benzema and buy someone to compete with Ronaldo/Bale. Getting two players at that level means at least 200m investment (and if one of them is Kane, then 250m+).

Shocking, considering all the smoke signals over the last month or so. Woody better finish up that contract extension for DDG, else we're back to the same old summer speculation. At least Courtois is in the picture, as that should help distract RM. RM's summer moves will be interesting to watch.

Nah, they just wouldn't pay 80m for Kepa because they can get one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now for 30-40m more (or, in the case of Courtois, around the same price).
Just not sure they will pay that sort of money for a GK. Although DDG is the best, it is strikers and midfieders who are merchandising gold.
Sorry what I meant was what @DomesticTadpole said, I can't see Real spending big money on a keeper when they're going to need to replace a few ageing players in the next year or two.

So as it stands, Courtois contract at Chelsea is till 2019 & De Gea's at United is till 2020 (including the 1 year option).
Both clubs should be desperate to tie them down until 2025 like Kepa. I'd give De Gea a 30 million sign on bonus just for it!

Kepa arrives this afternoon to Madrid and on the morning of this Wednesday will proceed to the payment of the 80 million euros of his clause to go to Chelsea. Will sign between 5 and 6 seasons
Tying then down doesnt help in Spain with release clauses. Athletic probably didnt think someone would trigger the 80m clause so quick

The money is no good while they cannot replace the goalkeeper. Good luck to him with that shambles of a defence in front of him. I hate Chelsea.
They now have Herrerin as first choice I presume, I am sure they have loaned out Unai Simon for the season, so god knows who the backup will be. It has severely weakened them.
They might've assumed Courtois would actually honour his contract. Perhaps having Courtois for another year is worth more to the club than whatever fee is being offered for him.
I guess that Courtois knew that It was this year or never (to return to Madrid).

He's a good keeper, but not that good yet. I think he might struggle initially but he'll come good. Don't see him becoming best in the wold good though
Part of me understands Courtois wants to live closer to his kids but if Real were not interested, would he be asking for a move to Rayo Vallecano? I would guess his kids would be less important to him in that situation.
Re Kepa, honestly I know nothing about him. Heard the name when he was linked with Real.
