Kenyon: No more Spending....

We're sending our people to France to meet with Rennes over signing Escude this weekend.

<a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/2178033.stm" target="_blank">http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/2178033.stm</a>

Odd...since Kenyon said we wouldn't be signing anyone else. ;)

He never actually said it though did he? He just hinted, and all-but said it.

Anyway, we've sold Yorke since then ;)

2.5m for Yorke wasn't it? Plus 2m for his wages. Yeah that should cover Escude.

have you heard differently?

Because you're normally in the know about such matters..

what about their other defender, reveillere or somefink....a good prospect too no....what's the take between him and mexes; similar players?....personally would prefer escude to sorin if he's more solid defensively, know it's early times yet, but silvestre's looked terribly sluggish especially in the match against ajax....oh well, let's hope his learning curve continues, has improved tremendously though.......
bloody hope we tie up the crespo deal, not entirely convinced of him yet, but he's the best available out there at the moment.......DEFINITELY would want him over Ronaldo....though somethings bloody brewing on that front

He's a target of Valencia.

Not at all since we all knew that departing players especially in important roles would be replaced.

<strong>Kenyon told reporters: "We are not looking for new players. We concentrated on what we thought was our single number one target and that was Rio.

"There is a limit to the squad size you can have. Good players want to play football, they don't want to sit on benches and have rests.

"We have got a squad size we are happy with." If you look at us we have the best midfield of any team probably across Europe," a reference to David Beckham, Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Juan Sebastian Veron.

"As for strikers, we brought in Diego Forlan last season, Ruud (van Nistelrooy) had a fantastic season and Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) keeps on doing what he does -- so we are great in that department.

This was all about a quality player in defence. We never sat down and said we needed to bring in several players. This was all about getting the right one and in Rio we have the right one.

"That really was what the game plan from day one."</strong>

When the theory was put to the Forum that Kenyon was not being true and that the likelyhood is that United will sign players, and with the advent of AF actively looking to sign another striker this week, the following is almost laughable...

<strong>Whilst physically you have only handed over half of the Rio fee this summer, surely it's obvious to all that you have in fact spent £33M?
I can't see Ferguson "borrowing" from next years budget in order to bring in rio this year. </strong>

by Ichk (23rd July)
<strong>What bothers me more is that cuddly pete quoted he and fergie are happy with no more signings.
Sort of extinguish our hopes of another signing or two doesn't it?</strong>

by uranushk1 (24th July)
<strong>Yes. Some fans still dream that Kenyon may be just telling a lie. But on his position he will not tell a lie like that -- especially when that lie is going to cause unhappiness of fans.</strong>

Dans (24th July)
<strong>It seems to me that some people aren't happy with that outlay. I think we should be grateful. I also think that such spending is significant and maybe our limit has been reached.</strong>

Davo (24th July)
<strong>You're all convinced that there is hidden agenda's behind Kenyon's words...
Perhaps he simply meant that you're not going to sign anyone else? Having just spent 30 odd million does that seem such a surprise? </strong>

Davo again (24th July)
<strong>You spend 30m and Kenyon says no more players will be bought...
This apparantly means that you're signing new players??? </strong>

RUDDY (24th July)
<strong>we should be thankful we are in a postion to buy players at the top of the market and still be within the black unlike leeds and the rentboys
i wonder how many people like the kemos would still be around if we were going down that road
it just shows how times change
knighton anyone? </strong>

Davo (24th July)
<strong>Kenyon has the final say, not Demento..</strong>

and then Dans in agreement to Davo to Raouls theory that Kenyon was not being exactly truthful....
<strong>Have to agree - cock and bull theory that Raoul.</strong>

Davo
<strong>Kenyon announces that you're making no signings. He doesn't really mean this. He is calling everyone's bluff.
Ok, I'm with you so far, even tho I think you're talking nonsense..</strong>

and
<strong>You're clutching at straws, and inventing implausible scenarios because you don't like the idea of what Kenyon's words are more likely to mean,
That being, that you're not signing anymore players </strong>

Ichk (same day)
<strong>In hindsight, I believe that we will not sign any more players.</strong>

and
<strong>Johnsen too and don't forget Wallwork (ok ronnie isn't prominent enough to warrant a significant loss).
I know Raoul but Kenyon does not seem to deem these losses as significant enough to warrant purchases.</strong>

Davo to Raouls - I'm not clutching at straws. If you read my initial post in this thread, you'll see that I have his statements as meaning two possible things. 1. He meands what he says, and 2. It's a smokescreen to lower transfer fee expectations.
I've supported point #2 because I'm confident that we will infact buy another player, possibly two in the next few months..especially if we sell Yorke to Blackburn.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

<strong>If I were you I'd concentrate on #1, as your #2 makes no sense whatsoever.. </strong>

I could go on... ;)

Please do, you seem to be having such a good time...

So who have you signed then?

Master Yoda I assumed you would be more atune to such matters?
Reveillere is a RB, 22 or 23, very assured on the ball and knows where the goal is, plays for the France second team.
Mexes is a sweeper/CB, 20, almost got on the WC squad, touted as the 'new Lauren Blanc', very skillful, athletic, strong in the air, scores quite a few goals also. Will probably leave Auxerre next Summer.

:D Davo... You were arguing the point that because Kenyon said that United were not interested in signing anybody else, that you believed that we weren't. Now, United have come out and completely contradicted your belief by looking to sign more players! :D

So far as I understand your point - it was based around WHY should we not believe Kenyon when he says we won't be making (or indeed looking to make) any more signings because United bought Rio Ferdinand. Now - albeit they haven't signed any more players - United have openly stated that they are in the market to sign more players, which was the whole point of the discussion, completely disproving your point! So yes, I am having a good laugh.

Discuss at your will... :D

There once was a young man called Duff
He always looked out of puff
When he signed for Utd twas magic
For the boys from the 'Pool it was tragic
Good God hes a great bit of stuff!!

If Rio is to be our only signing this summer then I think United really have their work cut out for themselves. Granted he will stregnthen our defense but we need more attacking options if we want to do well in the Champions League. Last year the one forward strategy didn't work and it just got Ruud fatigued. Another top class striker like Ronaldo or Crespo would make our squad alot stronger and give us many more options. As a die hard Man Utd fan I just hope this isn't the end of our summer spending.

Give it a rest Dafto, unlike the BinDippers we don't sign 5-6 players who really aren't proven at all. Your manager has said he is still looking for Quality players, ours has said we are in the market for 2.

I wonder if the scum are content with there squad ??? or do they need 2-3 more players.
