Music Kendrick Lamar

Listened to the album a few times now and to be honest I think it's his worst work yet. Some of the lyrics are just clunky and out of place for example on Father time where he raps about his 'Daddy issues' which sampha is fantastic in, the line 'When kanye got back with Drake I was slightly confused' just doesn't fit and seems irrelevant to the rest of the song. Worldwide stepper is painful to listen to where he is rapping about being racist and imagining his ancestors watching him 'feck white bitches'.We Cry Together has a great instrumental and could be so much better but it's painful to listen to with a really crude argument and for the people saying it's a social commentary on the me too movement are reaching a bit I think. Kodak Black's features are just shit and having that scumbag on his album where 'mental stability meets talent' seems insane. The homophobic slur on Auntie Diaries seems indulgent especially the repetition considering he declares at the end of the song that it's only acceptable for him and others to say that 'if white girls can say n****'. Mother I sober is brilliant and the definite highlight of the album very introspective and showcases his talent. N95 is the best hype playlist song but I think still falls short of his best banger tracks in other albums.

I‘m so glad this beef happend to hit mainstream media - been out of the rap loop for a decade I guess and finally got to know Lamar this way. My cousin, huge music/rap head, once mentioned him when I asked for some updates but I the 1-2 tracks I randomly checked afterwards weren‘t just not for me.

Now eagerly working through his tracks which is mostly brilliant - quite the genius. Those diss tracks of him are amazing stuff too. It‘s a bit silly considering Drake isn‘t anywhere near his level and actually embodies quite well why I got fed up with the rap game many years ago.

Is it not already over, it's been over for a while now

Think I posted Euphoria in the what are you listening to now thread a while ago....

No round 2s is fecking hilarious.

You know drake is punching the air somewhere right now.

I don’t know why I keep getting bombarded by social media on how Kendrick tore apart Drake in his diss tracks. Do people actually take diss tracks seriously? Isn’t it basically rich celebrity banter? And why would such an established artist like Drake be quivering at the idea of already (presumably) released tracks being performed live?

Because it's literally about him being a pedophile? Would you enjoy that being repeated to a global audience? Personally I wouldn't enjoy that too much.

Drake's established, but its far to say thankfully and deservedly the light has dimmed on him and he's openly ridiculed these days, which is good to see.

Yes they do. It's apart of the culture. Kendrick telling hundreds of millions of people that Drake is a paedophile would be huge.

But I don't think Kendrick will perform any of them. By then it'll be old news unless Drake keeps stoking the fire

Think he'll perform Not Like Us, not only because it's gonna get thousands of people calling Drake a PDF file, but also because it's a banger of a track.

Drake has repeatedly shown that he has a laughably thin skin for any kind of criticism.

Somehow think him playing Not Like Us will get veto'd somehow.

Would be pretty epic if he did play it though.

He's one of them artists I just don't get. But then I also don't think much of Kanye or Jay-Z either
Id have peak 50 Cent over any of them

This. I‘ve witnessed 12yo having it on repeat while plying b-ball in Germany and they don‘t care about Drake or any of those allegations, possibly having zero idea what the whole thing is about.

Would still surprise me if they‘d allow him to play it. But who knows, would make some news for sure.

Dream scenario is that he gives it a whole new set of great verses. Absolutely wasted an all timer of a beat and hook on a diss track.

Outside of all the personal pride stuff, Drake's brand is pretty heavily damaged in terms of public perception by having the whole hip hop culture singing "certified lover boy? certified pedophile". Let alone it being broadcast at the Superbowl. Whether or not the allegation has any shred of truth is somewhat irrelevant because Drake, along with most other celebrities, is reliant on how the public view him.

My 28 year old female assistant who knows nothing about rap and listens religiously to Taylor Swift knows half the words to "Not Like Us" and virtually nothing else about Kendrick Lamar or Drake. It is celebrity banter in some sense, but it has effects well beyond that imo.

It's really very silly, but they're making lots of money out of their nonsense.
