Keir Starmer Labour Leader

Exactly, before Blair the last Labour government was in the 70s, if the Wilson-Callaghan years count as socialist enough then it's been 50 years since a proper lefty government in power.

I'm a little optimistic with the changing demographics of the UK, discontent with the tory party and the reduction of people owning their own homes that a left-leaning government becomes a reality. Still too many boomers though and Gen X might just be sliding toward Tory too.

Until the system in the Uk changes, nothing will change. If you don't like the Tories and don't like Starmer , there is no choice. You could vote for any other party but under the current system they have no power.

And the Tories and Labour don't want to change the system because at worst they finish first or second.

not even close

have you read the forde report?

No. I am not going to pretend that labour is perfect, but I am so scared of another Tory government I am willing to vote labour. I would rather protest a labour government I dislike than have what we have now (and for the record I think labour in their current guise are nowhere near as nasty, incompetent or corrupt as this Tory government are).

If the Tory's get in it will legitimise everything they have done so far and they will go even harder and that terrifies me.

To me, if Labour get in with a majority, it vindicates their lurch to the right and Tory lite tribute act.

They have all but declared war against anyone left wing within their own party. I couldn’t help them justify that disgusting anti-democratic behaviour with my vote… and it didn’t have to be that way. The only people to blame for alienating left wing voters are the idiots in control of the Labour Party. For the first time in my adult life I won’t vote Labour in a GE and I live in what for the first time, will be a winnable seat for them.

If you haven’t read the forde report then don’t question why I’m not voting for labour as a black woman, and worse still insinuating I might be a shy Tory.

it’s actually quite ridiculous

I never questioned why you weren't voting for labour, I asked who you were voting for. Don't make stuff up. I knew nothing about you and that's why I asked.

That's fair enough. I live in a very safe Tory seat, even in 2024, so my vote means very little anyway. My MP is also a massive cnut (obviously).

What I would say is I would say the Rory's getting in is still far worse than labour, even if I don't align with them. I am much more willing to give them a chance than get another five years of an even more ramped up Tory rule

and yet I laid it out quite clearly in an earlier post

Maybe I hadn't read that? Is that possible? Nah.

You did read it, this is the literal post you originally quoted:

It's not only Muslim voters they're losing.
As a black person, he lost me (and plenty others) after the Forde Report; their position on Israel/Gaza only reaffirms the lack of humanity.

And somehow your first thought was "Shy tory?"

Like I said, ridiculous.

One shadow minister said: “The £28bn is definitely going as a figure. It will be changed to specific outcomes linked to specific investment, rather than being a random figure to be allocated at a later date.”

In a sign of how Starmer is likely to frame the decision, the source added: “It was always meant to be formally allocated before the general election, so this isn’t such a major departure really. It’s being firmed up, not dropped.”

Nice headline though I guess.

Fair play to them for managing to find a way to still do exactly what the policy says but at a third of the £28bn they thought it'd cost. Now that's shopping around for a bargain.

There's one born every minute apparently.

Do you think it's unreasonable to amend a policy that was made 3 years ago considering how much damage has been done to our economy in the intervening years?

How economically illiterate can they be?
They are just trying to forget everything that happened after 2008. This type of economic thinking really should be seen as extremist.

People can’t argue that the tories have destroyed the economy and then say that’s why Labour have to follow the same policy set.

It’s insanity.

What part of those three years has made green and renewable energy needed less?

The economy's fecked, so let's bin investing in the country and not just create jobs but build a sustainable country, we've got more fiscally responsible things to do like capping benefits and making sure those bankers can keep their bonuses.

The Tories destroyed the country with austerity which increased inequality. That’s why Labour need to keep the child benefit cap and have no cap on banker bonuses.

This is very smart politics.

He's only pretending to be a right wing weather vane until he gets into power. Everyone knows you can't change anything when you're in opposition. He broke his pledges to the poor people in order to become leader of the party and he'll break his pledges to the rich people as soon as he gets into Number 10. It's all part of a masterplan. Just you wait. You'll see.

Are you saying you expect him to… pivot?
