On topic though, hope they don't get him, a top class striker like Benzema, a CDM and they're ready to go for the title.

This is not directed at you man - i'm just venting my annoyance on the whole.

I really have to laugh at all this "Arsenal for title, if they get one or 2 top-class players in now.." bollox.

They needed a keeper - which they've done, but that's all they've got in. They need a top-class CB, a top-class DM & a top-class Striker just to compete with us - nevermind Chelsea & City, who'll get players in before the window closes. Jack Wheelchair is possibly out for 2-3 months too.

Folk are writing us off - even by our own fans for Christ sake. We would have pushed Chelsea all the way if we hadnt of lost Carrick for the remainder of the season & played Rooney in CM instead of upfront. We were on a fantastic roll - winning brilliantly at Pool away & Spurs & City at home.

Carrick was finished for the season after the city game & was a massive loss for us for the rest of the season - not to mention the Chelsea away match (which soon followed, if not after the City game), where we dominated with 70+% possession & got sucker-punched. We lost our cutting edge when Carrick was out & not having Rooney up front.

Now, on-top of what we had last season, we've added a much-needed top-class RB; 2 top-class CM's; a potentially world-class forward; a world-class forward in Pedro seems to be a done deal & added a pretty God-darn good Keeper by the looks of it too. Not to mention the likes of Perreira, who had an excellent pre-season & a year older Wilson & Adnan also.

Arsenal are no-where near ahead of us in winning the title - after you consider the above-mentioned & we havent stopped there yet. We'll bring in a CB, Pedro & most likely a Striker / marquee goal-scoring forward also.

Our season was blighted by injuries & Chelsea had feck all - apart from Costa being out now & again. If we stay relatively injury-free in defence & bring in what we need, then there's no reason why we arent favourites with Chelsea for the title - above everyone else & especially Arsenal..

Is Benzema any good at free kicks? I really am sick of the guaranteed Rooney 'over the bar' ones. He seems to hit the exact same spot in the crowd every time.

He still did his best to fluff a great opportunity, also Benzema is much better at link up play and off the ball movement which would create space, and thus more chances.

He did indeed Cass. Couldnt believe our luck with that goal - when i seen it on the replay. It was only the season-opener of course, but Rooney of old would have hit that first time - instead of trying to take a touch.

He looked way out of sorts all pre-season & also yesterday; so i think LvG has to re-think his policy of always playing the captain; because it's complete bollox to have a player that has no form - playin in the team all the time because of an arm-band / old ridiculous stubborn mantra he has.

We need a top-class striker in, as i dont think we can rely on Rooney to be the main man anymore & that's not based on the last couple of months - that's been the case for a good while now. Falcao was the great hope.

As it stands - Benzema is a much better player than Rooney (always has been in many peoples eyes) & there are plenty of Strikers out there, that are too. It's just getting one of them is the problem though..

Depay is very good at free-kicks.

You have Mata, guy is pretty decent on those.

So funny when Mata and Rooney took the free kicks off Depay, even though he scored 7 free kicks last season.

When was the last time rooney scored from a free kick

First free kick was for a left-footer to be fair, second free kick - one taken by Rooney - took place when Memphis was already off iirc.

the first free kick was to far out for Mata to score IMO, you need power shots from angles that are further away from goal. Memphis would be perfect for it

Yep Rooney should not be our first choice free kick taker as his rate is not high.

Im more interested to see who's going to take the pens now Rooney hasn't got competition from RVP anymore.

i think all pens and majority of the free kicks should be given to Depay

He's not great at penalties, I believe he's missed about as many as he has scored. Tried a panenka and shot it over a few times, he can be too confident.

If hes for sale we better fecking sign him, feck Rooney he can drop to 10 if needs be.

Oh okay. thats worrying then

Guess Mata it is for the pens this season

He is just what Arsenal need seems like the obvious thing to say, but I m sure United fan taught the same thing about Falcao and Di Maria before we signed them. The latter's performance dip was due to poor man management.

Anyway, I always felt Arsenal do not really need a striker even though a player like Bezema would most likely have the Van Persie effect of 2012/2013 season. Arsenal already have goals everywhere on the pitch and they have an upcoming player in Akpom who has a chance to breakthrough their first team. Nevertheless, I feel it is not a case of getting Benzema, but rather a case of selling Giroud for Benzema. Wenger seems to have a lot of faith in Giroud and both these players seem identical, so it is hard to see the benefit for Arsenal in keeping both.

This guy has been carried by Ronnie/and Di Maria) the past 3-4 seasons and Arsenal doesn't have either.. He was lethal in his Lyon days but now with a +35m price tag?? HAH

If he is available and we don't go for him I'll be utterly baffled.

He got 3 goals and 3 assists with France and proved himself as a world class striker at the World Cup.

Do you watch Real play often? Genuine question as you think he's being carried by ronaldo/Di Maria.

I thought he was relatively poor his first few years at Real, lately however he does seem to have rediscovered his form and turned into the perfect unselfish frontman for Ronaldo and co. to play off of.

Edit. Wow, hadn't realised he's 28 this year, how time flies.

I'm not even going to watch the game now that I already know what will happen.

Did you watch it ? I didn't but, hey, why watch it when you know what's hoping to happen ?

I haven't a clue how the match went statistically as I'm abroad and certainly wasn't going to be bothered to trek to a bar to watch that shovel of shite.

For starters I think Arsenal have the worst pair of defensive full backs in the PL bar the bottom six and that piss weak midfield (defensively) leaves what is already a poor pair of full backs woefully exposed. I saw relatively mediocre teams like Southampton, Monaco, Besiktas, Swansea rip them to shreds down the channels time and time again last season. No team in the PL is as vulnerable to the sucker punch on the counter attack as Arsenal and no way can Cech solve that problem single handedly.

Two new defenders, a midfield enforcer and a world class striker and I'll listen someone tell me about their title credentials. Until that point let's see if they can rise to the challenge of securing a top four because that's their limit - all in my humble opinion of course.

He's 28 this year? I always thought he was 25ish. Anyway yet another Ozil/Sanchez signing if true. Their team will be absolutely loaded with top attackers but it won't solve the problem. Their competition up front is already way too tough and the side is still soft. Will make an impact, although I'm optimistic nothing will come out of this.

I watch enough to see that we should stay away from strikers like him with a price like that. Sure, he can create a goal for himself every now and then but bring him to EPL and make him play against tougher defenders week in week out, I'm almost sure he wouldn't be a huge hit. Ronaldos crazy fitness and the overall style of La Liga have made his numbers look much better than he really is. It would had been great to see him work with SAF after he gave us a scare with Lyon..

Are people now trying to pretend that Benzema isn't all that, and wouldn't improve Arsenal 10 fold?

If arsenal sign Benzema and we go into the season with CL with only Rooney as our recognised front man I'll just...well I'll... probably cry

I noticed that when Di Maria arrived at MUFC, he was the touted as the best player in the league.
When he left....he is not a good player and had an awful season.
When we were trying to buy Benzema - he is a fantastic.
When Benzema is now looking to sign with Arsenal - he isn't that great.

Guys, Benzema is a great player. No doubt about it. I just dont see Madrid accepting any bids for him because he is important to their team. They;d probably only sell him if they can sign a replacement in the same transfer window.
And it is quite possible that he may help Arsenal to get from 2nd place (last year), to 1st place (this year). BTW, Arsenal lost today. Zero goals scored.

And as we saw yesterday, Rooney didnt look particularly good. Bear in mind though, it was the first game of the season, so he may play himself into great form.

But he's by himself that's the point I was trying to make. imo Wilson and Chich can't be trusted to fire us in all competitions if Rooney gets injured. We all know Rooney has his season 'lulls'

I'm not even concerned about the numbers, don't even know how many he got last season. If anything, he scores far less than what he could if his game wasn't based around creating space for Ronaldo.

He has pretty much everything one can want in a striker. Would excel in our system too due to his great movement.

Pointless discussion though as I don't think Real would sell and if they would, we probably aren't interested.
