Kanye West why?

Idea he's an all-timer rapper is laughable. Not even top 20. Producer, yes - rapper, just no. Antisemite - also top 20.

Agreed. There are much better ones. I think more fame and record sales doesn't always mean better.
Absolute nonsense. His impact on the genre is huge, for better or worse. It’s a total different sound and last 15 or so years if you remove Kanye’s influence. Blokes a plonker and clearly not quite right, but as an artist his impact is massive.
I don't think different sound means genre defining... artists try all sort of things all the time, genre defining usually means an artist has set a new standard or created a blueprint that others follow. Kanye West experimented a lot, sure, but I wouldn't say he single handedly shaped the genre. It was already evolving and he was just part of that wave. He was trendsetting, made it more mainstream rather than genre defining.

If we're talking genre defining, look at Nas, he slowed down rap and made lyricism the focus. Tupac was pushing themes of activism, struggle (Thug life), and personal pain into his creations while influencing the rise of West Coast dominance, it was a movement on top of music. Dr Dre pioneered G Funk and he added crisp, layered sound, making beats more polished and cinematic. These artists changed the way rap was made. Kanye? He popularized soul samples and 808s but those already existed.

Would you say Justin Bieber defined pop the way Michael Jackson did? I don't think so. He was just part of its evolution. Kanye’s role is the same, mainstream but not the blueprint.

Now I ain’t sayin’ she’s a gold digger…

She is worse than one

It's fine to suggest that she may have been aware of the sort of person he was. But how have you arrived at the conclusion that she is taking advantage of his mental health and playing a "very disgusting game"?

The only thing that seems obvious is that he's an absolute cnut but he's always come across as one anyway.

He is an absolute cnut and as well he has mental problems. All of it was well known before they got married. So she knows that he is a cnut and he is milking him despite his mental problems

And i think he abuse his authority on her but she plays game

And if he got even worse she can quit any single moment. But never came as a surprise

Obviously this is an opinion based on what is shown in public and from a perspecrive of not caring that much

Kanye West is an idiot. However, there is a clear before 808s and an after 808s in rap history, went toe to toe with 50 and the genre chose Kanye. There is no hip hop artist or hip hop media who don't acknowledge the impact he has had on the genre. The guy is a plonker, but a talented plonker.

Kanye when his wife tells him she’s off.

What’s the feeling with Kanye? Mental illness? Does he really believe all the stuff he’s saying? Is he trying to prove some weird point about things and is just doing it in the way that brings the most attention?

I know he has bipolar apparently, but I know people with bipolar who are nothing like this even when they’re off their medication.

No rule that says people who are massive cnuts can't also suffer from severe mental illness, and Kanye is the textbook example of that. Kinda pointless trying to determine which side of that coin is coming out on top at any given time.

As for him being bipolar, he's now insisting that was a misdiagnosis and he's actually autistic. Though that also conveniently justifies him no longer taking the medicine he says blocks his creativity, so possibly not the most reliable assessment of his own mental health.

Being off your medication will effect people differently. Respectfully, however whoever you know behaves when they're off their medication has no bearing on how Kanye reacts off his, so not worth thinking about.

To your last question, no he's not doing it for attention. He's got bipolar and is having a manic episode for the entire world to see and it's frustrating that the fact he has bipolar gets brushed under the carpet when discussing him.

He’s literally the most genre defining and most influential rapper in the last 25 years.

Cat is severely bipolar & is off his meds for a while now.

Reminds me of me ten years ago, almost identical.

I particularly liked your 3rd album and nude wife.

Damn shame and waste of talent. With comedic timing like this I reckon he could have been the star of a new sitcom.

i'd say he's pretty much universally regarded as such, and your opinion is an outlier. of course you're free to have it.
I dont think its an outlier given you can find several people in this thread alone that think the same (he is far from being the best).

Kanye isn't the best rapper no. But his peak, he is one of the greatest artists of his genre. Hit for hit, Kanye has some amazing records that would go toe to toe with anyone.

It could also just be a convenient excuse when he does need it. I’m not saying either way as none of us know, he’s obviously a bit of a cock (that’s an understatement) but I’m just asking the question as to whether anybody that actually knows it works with him has tried to explain this.

Redcafe is a bubble and doesn't represent wider public views almost ever. Essentially a bunch of incels yelling at clouds.

Sounds like you're suggesting bipolar disorder is a convenient excuse, whilst ignoring the effects of actually having bipolar disorder. You say we don't know either way, we literally know he has bipolar disorder. He's had these manic episodes multiple times now for the past decade, to the point where we clearly know when they're happening, but people choose to ignore his mental health simply because they don't like him. That's so fecked up.

Is there an historical connection between bipolar disorder and saying you're a nazi who likes hitler?

Autism too apparently. We didn't know that nazi germany was full of mental health disorders

Might be that the only thing we know is a better health care system

How does it sound like I’m saying that? He does crazy shit on a weekly basis, he isn’t having a manic episode every week. I have never disliked him, I listen to his music and, until now, I’ve never took much interest in the stuff he’s gets up to. He’s an extremely eccentric guy at the best of times and I’m simply wondering if this is some of his usual bollocks that has just crossed the line. He was making out it was a test on free speech, and whilst a manic episode does look most likely, I also can’t rule out that he genuinely was trying to prove some sort of point.

I think the worst commentators in this situation (r/kanye is rife) are those immediately defending him because of mental health issues. Saying they’ll only listen to his pre nazi music now etc. The guy is defending fecking pedophiles and there’s fans jumping to his defence without hesitation, or refusing to condemn him because they like his music? Whole thing is suspicious to me.
