Kalvin Phillips

Prefer Neves but i'll try to watch him play for leeds in the next couple games because he never really stood out like Neves does.

He’s spoken about his hatred for Manchester United in the past, I can imagine his smile as he wears the shirt in his welcome to united video. Through gritted teeth but with pound signs in his eyes :nervous:

We should be looking at unearthed gems from different leagues. Now is the time to pull together a solid team of young players who ETH believes will develop with United. A hard no for Kalvin Phillips - seems like another band-aid solution

Everyone being against signing him is probably a good sign. The Caf is usually wrong.

Tbh I think he is a good player, but if 50-60mil ish price Luckhurst mentions is right, it does seem like a big ask this summer. We have so many holes to fill.

I think he'd do well in a double pivot, but physically it's a lot to ask defensively of him to play the same role as a better athlete than Alvarez

My issue is that he has been injured a ridiculously long time with a hamstring injury. These sorts of injuries almost always dont go away.

Quality player, the kind of signings we should be making, big fish in a small pond and a couple of tiers above what we currently have in that area. Reads the game very well and compared to McTominay and Fred he’s like Pirlo on the ball.

Seems the sort of underwhelming type of signing, that will go on to be better for us than any of the elite names we have signed in recent years have got close to.

We don't have enough players with hatred in their game, I'll take it.

he's massively better than any of our options, he's far better defensively than Fred or Scott as a 6 and has 1000x more energy than matic at this stage, he's a better passer than all of them and is at the right age, If Ten Hag approves then we should get.

Would be a good option for the right price. Hard working and covers lots of ground plus also has the ability to pass the ball. I believe he would be a good buy as we need and upgrade and "sure thing" or a premier league proven player. Sure there are players from other leagues with more potential but what if they dont work out?? Do we head into a new season with McFred VDB and Garner??

The likely price tag, the injuries (am I wrong in feeling he's injury-prone?), and the Leeds factor - not sure it would be a smart signing, particularly given how crucial the position is.

That won't be happening I can assure you

I don’t understand. Weren’t United meant to be going after younger players?

This guy is older than Matic isn’t he?

If he fits the profile and has the exact attributes ETH wants then I'm all for it.

Forget the name, it's about what we need in order to execute the desired style of play. Would hope we could get him for cheaper though.

Not quite, he's 26!

He is a great player and if he can play the screening role in a Bielsa side and he clearly can, he'd make a huge difference to your midfield. I think 50M is a pretty good price for an England international midfielder just hitting his prime years.

Not worth 50m. Im guessing the smoke is given how precarious the relegation battle is for Leeds. If they go down maybe we can pick him up for a considerably less fee.

I can't get his performances that I've seen out of my head to give him a chance. He's been rubbish when I've seen him, apart from for England which is a completely different setup and the games are a bit slower paced.

Can't remember if it was the game this season or last when he was played off the park by I think Fred and Mctominay. He looked slow and cumbersome and couldn't recover for our counters. I think he got dropped for the next game against us and they fared better.

United fans think only French players are worth over 49 million.

I'm confused. Didn't he fecking hate our guts? Why would he ever come here? It doesn't make sense, unless he wants that fat paycheck. Hardly the kind of player we need right now. And 50 million fee?

Nonsense, 99% of this forum wanted us to sign Sancho.

That's because of Sancho playing abroad imo. They instantly think that these English players are better.

Bellingham is next in alot of people's mind.

English players playing in England are viewed differently unless playing for our rivals.

I couldn't agree more, if Philips was playing in Spain or Germany the view would be very different, though I understand the reluctance to buy from Leeds.

No, it's because he was highly rated since being a youth player along with Foden. Similar with Bellingham. I'm pretty sure Bellingham was wanted before Dortmund got him. Bellingham, similar to those two, was the highest rated talent of his very talented 2003 English generation.

I actually feel it's the opposite with you. Because they're English, it's better to go with them.

Again, this doesn’t make sense, as most of this forum wanted Bellingham before he went to Dortmund. If Declan Rice was available for £50-60m I’m sure he’d be the number one target for most on this forum. It’s not that people don’t want to pay £50m for English players, it’s just that people don’t want to pay £50m for players just because their English.

My guess is it's only if they get relegated, in which case he'd be in an identical situation as Alan Smith was back in the day. If any of the other top clubs make a move for him I have no doubt he would prefer to go there (as long as he would get a starting role), but honestly we're probably the most likely one to do it. He also wouldn't be 50m if they did get relegated.

The Athletic article is actually sceptical that he'll join us. Him and his family are Leeds through and through. Alan Smith wasn't a Leeds fan growing up according to the article. Phillips would have to burn a lot of bridges to join us.

We love a good Brexit signing. What is up with our scouting? Can’t sign Rice so lets go Kalvin Phillips. You’re telling me there aren’t better alternatives for cheaper elsewhere? Ridiculous. He’s also a crock, its typical United

150k a week and it doesnt matter who your family support!

Never seen him as the kind of central midfielder to put his foot on the ball and dictate the tempo. He is one I wanted with Ole here, but not anymore with Ten Hag in charge. Same with Declan Rice at any price.
