Kai Havertz

Before Bruno, you could have made a case that he's an option for United.
After, there isn't a case. You don't sign a player of his caliber for the money he'll cost to be benched.
Rather, we'll get Sancho and someone happy to sit behind Pogba and Bruno in pecking order at the start.

But what a player he is. What a player he is going to be in future. Unfortunately, just not for us.

We shouldn't be worrying about the cost of getting a game changing World class player into our team. We have had a very dry spell of creativity for the best part of 10 years now and it will be a good idea to overload it.

Real Madrid management didn't worry about the effect of bringing in Bale when they already had Ronaldo and Isco. They didn't worry about bringing in Kroos and pair him up with Modric and together with Benzema became the best attacking team in Europe again and with the reward of pissing on the much hyped Barcelona team with their 3 UCL in a row.

I remember every commentator was saying "this Barcelona team will be the first team to retain the UCL in modern football history". Low and behold Real Madrid with their huge financial acquisitions have had unprecedented success, defeated their old Spanish rivals and even put paid to the argument about buying success. This is why we should go out and get Kai Havertz.

Furthermore I think we are at the avant-garde of a new European footballing era of the Ronaldo Messi era coming to an end. We should snap up Kai (and Sancho for good measure) to be ahead of the rest.

We'd very probably have a better team than Liverpool and arguably every other team in Europe again. These 2 and that's us sorted.

Chelsea are better off getting a couple of defenders IMO

I'd love Havertz over Grealish if they are similar priced.

Rudi Voller said today he can leave this summer if conditions are met. So no pre-deal with Bayern is done. Bayern won't bid this summer Rummenigge has confirmed.

I think it's a very concrete possibility we get him. Lot of talk that we will make a move after tomorrow's final.

Looks like clean shot for Chelsea

This is missing the context. In the next answer he said it's up to Leverkusen/the player where he ends up.
Also his first answer can be interpreted "we won't buy Havertz for the price Leverkusen is currently asking" and I doubt anyone is going to pay a 100m for him. KHR also said similar stuff regarding Sane just a few weeks ago, that the deal needs to be financially sensible.
My guess is that we would go as high as 70-80m € with bonuses but no way will we break 100m for Havertz.

Havertz will be something quite special for whoever gets him. He has two things that make him unique, particularly in the context of some major trends that have recently swept football again (pressing, transitions, movement between the lines) that are more impressive than his raw ability (which is top notch too)
  • Press resistance: Havertz is the closest to a press-resistant AM that I've seen recently. His first touch isn't great, but every time he gets the ball he creating a bit of space with his movement. This makes me feel that he's going to end up in a similar role to what Firminho plays for Liverpool as a false #9, pulling defenders out of place and allowing inside forwards to run behind. He combines this with fantastic ability to arrive late (similar to Pogba last season in some ways) that helps him score a lot too unlike Firminho. It's a very rare combination
  • Transitioning: Havertz also leads Leverusen's press in many ways, and is incredibly intelligent about it. His anticipation is fantastic, and when combining that with the ability to release attackers with a solid short passing range he's deadly on transitions
Personally, I think he'll end up as a false #9 tucking inside two inside forwards and be the defining player of that generation in that role if there isn't mismanagement. It's a very unique skill set and I think he could devastating at Chelsea with the likes of Werner to run into the space he creates

Is it just me or when Chelsea go for a top target, do they always seem to get a free run at him?

If United wanted him, every other team and their dogs would be declaring their interest

Let's not forget we also had a free run at AWB, Bruno and Maguire to an extend as City weren't willing to pay up.

It's because no one cares who Chelsea want to sign, they don't sell papers, they don't get clicks. If you look at it we actually did have a free run at Fernandes, Maguire, AWB, Pogba, yeah other clubs may have been linked but most of the time it's purely done to create stories about Man Utd

is there any chance we see the light and go for him? This is the only summer to get him. I think he’s genuinely a generational player in the making. too good to just let a rival have a free run at him. Even without the Covid complications I doubt we’d ever have gone for havertz and sancho in the same window though. We should really be able to afford them with what we generate every year.

Him and Sancho would mean we would instantly become contenders. It would be the right statement from United and it would mean we would be good enough to win the league.

No club signs a top player for a decent fee, without a fight. There wont be any free runs. It just seems like there is because you dont see much of a "bidding war" in the press.

Werner for example it seemed we just came along and signed him without a battle, but he has said he turned down 3 or 4 other major clubs to choose us.

Plus, this is a freak window. Many top clubs are not of the financial power they usually are so players are more attainable or you have a better shot at signing them.

Havertz would play plenty if he joined us. He doesn't just play as an attacking midfielder, and it could be argued that he's better suited to playing further forward. He's played both on the right and up front for Leverkusen and has been very good there, racking up impressive numbers in terms of goal contributions. He's intelligent, has great link-up play, knows how to finish and is very good in the air. He'd fit our fluid front line perfectly, in my opinion. We'd be fecking frightening with a player like him as the centrepiece of our attack, bringing Rashford, Martial and Greenwood into play. With goal-scoring wingers like that a clever striker that can spot a pass is devastating. Just look at what Firmino does for Liverpool's wide forwards.

If we don't sign Sancho, Havertz is easily second on my list of most wanted players. I think we could even sign both and make it work.

With Fernandes as well?

Tell you what though, if Chelsea get him then he goes straight into my fantasy team without delays .

Really don't see a big game player in him. For the fee mentioned he's not going to live up to the expectations that comes with it.

I’ve always said if Leverkusen think they’ll get 100m it’s laughable. I don’t think he will be at the elite level, a tier just below.

He wont get a game if we add Sancho to our trio.

Yeah. Especially in this market. I woudn't pay over 40m. Rather add extra to get Sancho. Just a case of a "small club", in this era, trying to get the most of what they know is already lost I suppose.

40m for the best Bundesliga midfielder since KdB who is still only 21??? Come on, that's ridiculous.

Is he really the best?

Do you know what, you're right; that was a bit hyperbolic. Relative to his age he's the best since KdB. Don't think that's particularly disputable (given that I'm considering Sancho to be a winger instead of a midfielder especially as Dortmund play 3-4-3).

I was talking from our point of view where we already have Bruno and he's not the best midfielder since KdB in the bundesliga. He's a good player but hardly worth the sum being figured considering what times we're in. Especially not for us.

I don't deny his ability at all.

Ah ok! That makes much more sense; I apologize for jumping down your throat!

I get you.. I just think that for us it makes absolutely no sense to even focus on him given that we already have a player perfect for us playing the same role and we need to focus on other positions. Not spend that sort of money on a position where Havertz does his best as well.

It would make me livid if we didn't sort out CB and look for a compliment/future replacement to Matic first.

Yeah I agree - one only has to look at Arsenal's recent issues to see the potential problem with overinvesting in a single position. That they broke their transfer record three successive times for player who can't actually function together is hilarious.

Ndidi would seem to me to be the perfect potential replacement for Matic, but perhaps that's a discussion for a different thread.

I could have seen us going for him but not with Bruno here. Hope he doesn’t go to Chelsea though. Although they have some serious defensive issues to sort to just like us rather than spending 60-80m on an attacking mid.

If we spent that sort of money on another attacking midfielder right now.. Arsenal is a lost cause.. but we, I think both United and Chelsea fans, have gone through that dire situation in recent years and some things are looking up

I just don't think any United fan should even consider him right now which is why I'm fine with him going elsewhere. I'm satisified as it is in that regard.

Cannot see a compliment for Matic until next summer, maybe get an up and coming CB when sales are made.

I think this guy would add so much to the club. He can score goals from midfield - a lot of goals - create and drive defenders to distraction, so opening spaces for others. To let one of our rivals for top four to get him would be indefensible. I think he's nearer to Scholes than Bruno is (Bruno has lots of other qualities). He would be even more important if Pogba goes

Watching Havertz reminds me of KDB. If Chelsea get him I know they will be competing for the league.

If we had a huge transfer budget of course I would sign him but have to prioritise in our situation. We should get him only if Sancho doesn't happen for some reason.

I admit it will be gutting to see him sign for one of our rivals but there is nothing we can do about that.

Would happily take him, has so much ability. You just have to remember that Bayern have most likely been in his ear also. So this supposed meeting he is having with Leverkusen according to cfbayern on twitter, could well end up with him agreeing to one more year. If that is the case, he is off to bayern without a shadow of a doubt.

If he wants to leave this summer, i think we may just get him.
