Just Stop Oil

I just want to point out that people getting mad about this stuff are the embodiment of why not enough is being done. Because while accepting that climate change is real and must be fought, they still don’t want to acknowledge that in order to do so, our way of life has to change in some ways.
Asking protestors to protest in ways that don’t affect everyday life is the same kind of denial. „Sure your protest is valid. But please don’t affect my way of life in any way.“
Admitting to the necessity of such protests would be admitting that our way of life has to change. Can’t do that. So let’s get mad at the protesters and let’s make up some stupid reasons to do so.
I don't agree with this at all. I had people blocking off streets in my city who then faced trial and it was reveiled they did the same all over the country. They literally cause more CO2 travelling the country than I do just living my life. They don't give a single feck what I do to reduce my CO2 balance when they decide to bring my day to a halt. They think they know the truth while everybody knows what they know. They are no better than jehovas witnesses in my eyes.

How about peaceful non disruptive protests and making rational arguments about why oil must be stopped?

The F1 this weekend will surely be a target.
That I'd be fine with. Same with tennis actually, the pro tour jets around the world constantly. It's when they target random strangers without any reason or possible positive outcome that I despise them.

Those are happening too fella, apparently they're not going great either.

You'd be fine with them disrupting cars going at 300 km/h?

Saw someone douse them in milk, thought that was the funniest headline they've made so far. Hopefully people take note.

I’m very supportive of them disrupting more Goodison games.

This is precisely what I mean. The CO2 caused by this protest is a shallow argument that completely misses the point. They don’t care about your CO2 footprint. They want to force government action. They want to turn the big wheel, not the small ones. Which is precisely what needs to happen. We need strict regulation of corporations throughout the world. They don’t want to convince some commoner to recycle or take the bus every now and then. They want to prevent countries and corporations from destroying the planet completely.

Mmm yeah nobody has given that a go. What the feck is the point of a non-disruptive protest at this stage?

Expecting someone to get chopped in half at Silverstone this weekend. Feels inevitable that they’ll be on the track at some point.

When you say a ‘non-disruptive’ protest do you mean one that you can completely ignore, and that won’t get any media attention?
Because I think there’s your answer, fella.

Nobody thinks we should continue with oil. It's only being done out of necessity. JSO's message is so "motherhood and apple pie" that it's pointless to even protest about it.

Nobody's mind is getting changed because we already agree with you. Disrupting peoples lives is just dickishness for the sake of virtue signalling.

It was such a fitting "assault" for vandals.

Do you see them as vandals? Vandals are people who wantonly destroy property, and they do it gratuitously?
I totally get that some people might think that they are going about this the wrong way, but it seems you are wilfully misunderstanding them.

You are correct but the discomfort in actually changing how we live is too great, the actual ability/bravery of any government to enforce laws which will drive money away from their countries is close to zero.

Problem is we have short life spans, we aren't really concerned by what will happen in 100 years, we don't really care about what happens in 10 years if we can get rich now to be honest.

Their main funding comes from Aileen Getty, the granddaughter of Jean Paul Getty II, an owner of a fossil fuel company. A man who was considered one of if not THE most rich people on planet Earth. Yes, the main funding for Just Stop Oil comes from... oil.

The fossil fuel companies FUND these organisations. In part because they want the blame shifted squarely on to us, the consumers. Why? Well, for one thing, one might question the obscene amounts of lobbying, tax evasion and dirty tactics they've used to stop all alternatives from coming to fruit (smear campaigns on Nuclear power that still hold to this day, anti-solar lobbying, that sort of thing), but also because they want us to feel some element of responsibility when all we are are literal peasants scraping by to them. If they really wanted the levels of emissions cut, like I mean REALLY wanted them? It could be done. It won't, and certainly not by campaigns targeting somewhat innocent sporting events like Wimbledon or whatever. And it's unbelievable how much I despise the narcissistic bellends that try to lay the blame on everyone but themselves.

They got onto the track last year and weren't far away from being hit. I'd be surprised if they get onto it this year.

This - they're preaching to the converted. As far as protests go it's highlighting a cause, but not exactly targeting those who can make wholesale change.

Yup because that has worked so well up to this point

I don’t disagree with them disrupting sporting events to gain attention as it’s working But when they are stopping people getting into work by blocking roads that’s when they deserve a harsh uppercut, messing with peoples jobs and potentially losing out on wages isn’t the way to gain public support.

But equally you don't move the needle if people can go about their day though.

Well then they are about as effective as me banging my head against the wall for world peace.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a big orange parachute

There's nothing to misunderstand. Vandalism is vandalism.

He's an utter twat. Nothing funny or fitting about it.

Alpha male bellend.
He's doing what they have been doing, at them. It's every bit both fitting and funny. Would I do what he did? Probably not, isolated its a shitty thing to do. However, when twats are being twats to twats a very good opportunity to let off some laughter arises. I'm taking it, you're not. Fair enough.

I think they're right, but they're just pissing people off. They shouldn't sit in the middle of roads. This is wrong and will definitely make the public dislike them. I don't think they should vandalise property, either. They need to get more people on their side. Disrupting sporting events is fine, and the tactic I think they should continue with.

yes but it makes people hate them, there’s no world in which somebody is going to gain support when you’ve potentially just lost them a days pay because they’ve turned into work late. Also I saw a video a while ago on twitter where an ambulance on its way to an emergency was stopped, imagine if you’ve got a relative that needs immediate emergency care and they may die because these lot are blocking the road. Blocking the way of emergency vehicles is never acceptable in any scenario.

I haven’t seen any just stop oil protestors assault anyone?

So if they disrupt matches at OT you'll be fine with that?

If I had tickets, that I'd have likely paid a fortune for, to a sporting event or concert that got disrupted or cancelled they'll be getting a lot more than a size 12 up their jacksie from me

If they want something done then disrupt the decision makers, at Westminster and the like not Joe Public
