Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

No charge for Hegazi:

West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi will not be charged after appearing to punch Liverpool's Danny Ings in Saturday's 2-2 Premier League draw at The Hawthorns.

Striker Ings complained the 27-year-old Egyptian jabbed him in the stomach after the pair tangled as they both attempted to head the ball.

Referee Stuart Atwell did not see the incident, so it was referred to an independent panel of three referees.

But they were not unanimous in the view it was a red-card offence.

Klopp's gonna be miffed.

On a serious note God knows how the FA have come up with that decision. I don't think anyone can argue how such a clear punch isn't a red card offence.

Between this and the Kane goal and apology over the tweet it makes you wonder what exactly is going on with the FA at the moment. Making themselves into an even bigger laughing stock than normal.

How is that not a punishable assault? That's ridiculous... I wonder if that can be used as a precedent for future to justify any brawl.
I bet next time something like this happens with any other player/club the ban will be given.

Didn't know where to put it but here it is. Interesting article by Diego Torres who claims that Klopp had planned to ditch Coutinho this season all along, and how Coutinho could not cope physically with his tactical demands. He implies that Liverpool had the last laugh by selling Coutinho to Barca for huge money, and that unlike Iniesta who used to be a runner, Coutinho wouldn't be able to fill those shoes.

Reads like a Liverpool propaganda piece tbh, but I have no idea whether it was intentional or not. Pretty interesting though.

It's similar to how Fergie planned to sell Ronnie because he didn't run enough.

I'd argue that it is. Losing your best player in midseason and reaching the Champions League semi with their budget is astounding. I have them as much as the next guy but I'm not sure why we are diminishing what they have done. They may get pasted by Roma, but they'll be satisfied with their progress.

If you think that reaching the CL semi final achievement of Liverpool is "astounding", then I wonder what's your adjective to describe Roma's achievement considering they had to sell their best players in the summer.

Oh and btw, if they get defeated by Roma, then they'll be disappointed. It'll be a missed opportunity to reach the finals.

Champions league they have had a charmed draw in the last 16 but did very well to put out City as they were the hype team along with PSG but we all know the top 3 big guns you want to avoid before the final is Bayern Madrid and Barca and not talking teams (media hype). They have another charmed draw in Roma (better if Anfield was second leg for them) but fair play to them they have a live chance to go through and the final is a one of game.

It's a very good achievement but it's not an "astounding" one. Roma's achievement is far bigger if we're taking net spend and CL fixtures into consideration. Roma had At. Madrid and Chelsea in their group. Disposed off Barcelona in QF.

Also astounding. I don't think Roma expected to reach the semi finals, either. That doesn't take away from anything Klopp and Liverpool have accomplished.

I don't think they'll look back and think that they underachieved, no matter how they do against Roma. You're always disappointed when you lose. We were disappointed when we lost against Barcelona in the 2011 final, but it doesn't mean that we expected to beat them. They'd be disappointed for a bit, but look back and what they did with be pleased. That's just my take.

Where have I said that it does? For an United, you're very defensive of Liverpool.

I don't think I am. I view it the other way around. Some United fans can't seem to give any credit to opposition managers and teams - especially Liverpool.
The City thread is a case-in-point. A lot of our fans were classy, but there are a few tripping over their feet calling City's football boring, accusing their players of taking PEDs, and repeatedly talking about oil money. That kind of thing doesn't come across well.

I used to pity Liverpool fans who accused Ferguson of handing officials "Brown envelopes" because it was a sign of desperation and indicative of their plight at the time. I don't see the need to act that way when other teams (even our rivals) are successful. We're football fans first and foremost. Appreciating their play doesn't make us less of United fans.

I'm not saying that this is what you're doing, either. I don't really know you. I'm just commenting about some of the posters that I've seen.
You might think it's strange that a United fans would say anything positive about Liverpool, City, or Arsenal and consider it odd. My brother is the same way, so I understand where you're coming from and the disposition.

Liverpool have had the easiest route to the CL semi but somehow have the most hype around them. It probably has to do with them being the English hope. There was talk about how the PL was 'back' yet 3 of them got knocked out in the r16 and the two that made it to the r8 had an easy route.

Also winning the CL is an achievement, if getting to a CL semi-final is an achievement for Klopp then it shows that he is a second tier manager. Guardiola, Mourinho, Aleggri, Heynkes, Ancelotti expect to get to the CL semi final, and if they don't it's considered below par.

Those Post Match comments from Klopp are really classless. Comes across as an entitled prick.

Hope nothing is distracting us for tonight though.

It's definitely an achievement if you look at our team on paper and how much we've progressed under his reign. The managers you named are managing/used to manage teams like Barcelona, Real, Juventus or Bayern and yes, it's expected of them to reach the semis at least, that's not the expectation for Liverpool anymore. Hopefully Klopp is bringing that back though.

Klopp isn't a second tier manager, Liverpool has been a second tier club in terms of performances on the field for much of the last decade, compared to the first tier of the past five or six years (Bayern, Barca, Real, Atlético, Juventus).

I think he's one of those rare fans who doesn't let his bias cloud his judgement. Can't it be considered outstanding for both Liverpool and Roma to be in the Semi finals?

Diego Torres is a known fantasist.

I like taking the piss out of the bloke but credit where it's due, he has taken a bunch of pub players to the final of the Champions League. The likes of Karius, Lovren, Klavan, Ox, Milner, Henderson and Wijnaldum will be playing a fecking Champions League final.

Klopp is using a lot of long balls to bypass the high pressure from Roma, is that even allowed? I mean, it is the tactic that got them their goals this half, so isn't that extremely sacrilegious?

Mourinho won the CL with Porto and Inter. Aleggri got to 2 finals in 3 years with a small net spend. Atletico Madrid got to 2 in 3 years with a negative net spend. Then you have the respective wage bills, of which Liverpool have a much higher wage bill than these 3 managers with their teams.

Klopp is absolutely a second tier manager, he operates at clubs for a long time and peaks for small periods. He is not a serial winner and it is by choice. This excuse of not having money or not having the players is Klopp's own doing, he has been given the opportunity to manage super clubs and refused. He made his own bed.

If Klopp wins the CL, then I will consider him among the top tier, but he's very much a dark horse pick of a manager.

He's gotten to the CL final playing brilliant football with a team that has no right to be there.
Look at that midfield and defence ffs?

Talks so much shite and is unbearable if he is not you own but I doubt there is another manager in world football that is capable of getting those bunch of players to the CL final playing that kind of ultra attacking football.

Saw the vulnerabilities and latched on it. Can just say fair play.

All season this thread has been making fun of him, funny thread titles and all but the joke's on us if he gets them the CL. Even if he doesn't he clearly has something about him, what a manager. Know what he wants.

“What a manager”?!

He hasn’t won shite at Liverpool yet.

And we’re supposed to hate him, we are football fans and we’re tribalistic.

Redcafe almost had me convinced that he was a shit manager.

Getting to the CL final with this Liverpool team while playing great football is incredible.

Roma basically played in his hands with this idiotic high defensive lineup. He's a good manager but a cnut. We all know that, but it's Roma's manager who should be slaughtered by their fans for his idiotic management of the game.
