Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

I'm not reading every post word for word but I get the feeling that theirs some fishing going on today.

I don't know what to say about Casillas to Liverpool rumour. Going to the Premier League at this age is a bold decision. Regarding his performances, he is still prone to the occasional blunder but this year he was very good. In the big games, he was amazing. He was the reason they won against us and he was also very good against Benfica away. I wasn't impressed with his first year (specially in the Champions League games) but this year he was one of the best Porto players.

If Casillas signs it'll be as second choice. Mignolet has largely been very good since returning to the side.

He's just turned 36, might be a bit small for the PL and hasn't ever played in English football. He's a legend of the game but I don't want him at Liverpool at this moment tbh. Even as a second choice, I can't imagine Karius wanting to stay on as third choice at this stage of his career, and Mignolet has been good enough to warrant another season as number one...

Only if he came here to teach Karius a bit about goalkeeping I'd be happy with this transfer.

"We were supposed to be Champions" - according to who? We came 5th last year, 4th the season before that and 7th under Moyes. Not sure many Utd's fans were claiming we would win it this season. We can't help the muppetry in the media anymore than any other side.
It wasn't the media. On RedCafe there was a pre-season poll to predict where United would finish .. over 70% said you'd win it. The various bookies also had you as either 1st or 2nd favourites (with City).

Klopp's GK masterstroke is signing Casillas? Great keeper in his day but surely they can find someone at their peak...
Other sites have claimed that it's BS .. who knows for sure, but certainly still a decent keeper and had a very good season in Portugal. IF he should arrive then of course it's as a backup and would be a great keeper for Karius / Ward to learn from.

Lizzy won't be catching much. The river is wide but his rod is so big it can only touch down on the other bank.

Karius might be being lined up for a PL loan.

Just because a club (Liverpool) had worse expectations due to being generally shite for the best part of a decade than a club that had better expectations doesn't mean they did better. Especially when Liverpool's trophy was a 4th place which a potential Europa League trumps in two ways; 1- Instant qualification as a 2nd seed over a potentially tricky 3rd round qualification and 3rd seed 2- It's European silverware. Bottom line is two trophies is better than 0.

Still got to win tomorrow though.
Yep. Undoubtedly IF United win tomorrow (and some of the hubris on here with regard to that ..well, let's just say some seem to think it's a forgone conclusion the way they talk about 2 trophies this season) then that's a better season than 4th by a quite a way IMHO.

However let's not pretend that United had to beat the world to those trophies, City the only top rated side in 11 rounds of cup matches ; Northampton, City, West Ham, Hull (inc. losing at home) and Southampton (due to poor refereeing perhaps) then Zorya Luhansk, Fenerbahce (lost away), Feyenoord (lost away), St Etienne, Rostov, Anderlecht and Celta Vigo (and then only due to Guidatti (sp.) missing a sitter from 6m in the 96th minute that had the whole of RedCafe saying .. how the feck did he miss that ? Thank God !). United have really fallen over the line in the EL .. maybe Ajax can bring them down to earth ? It's hardly been swashbuckling, sweeping all before them, stuff so far has it.

Of course in the record books none of that will matter !

• Goes to post who knocked out Liverpool and Spurs from cups this season... Doesn't bother.. •

Where is this poll? 70% of people on here can't even agree the earth is round (see general forum thread) so I highly doubt 70% of us were saying we would win the title!

The bookies don't offer odds based on the probability of something happening. They offer odds based on "balancing the book". They know they will take lots of money on United since we have millions of fans and therefore have to go short

Go look for it yourself mate ! It's RedCafe, should be easy to find ...

Off topic, as usual. It still doesn't improve the quality of the opposition you've faced though does it :wenger:
It's hardly off topic if it's about the subject you brought up though. They were quality enough to beat you but not us so what does it say about the quality of your squad?

Classic deflection.... we are not talking in any shape or form about Liverpool.

You can nipick like that the other way if not for a string of poor refereeing decisions early in the season the mountain may not be as high to climb. Poor decisions cost us directly in the Feyenoord and Hull League cup game for example. Hull loss was away BTW.

It's not deflection at all, you're making out like we have had an easy ride but one of those "easy rides" beat you before facing us. There are basically two choices: it was an easy ride and you got beaten by a shit team showing how shit you are, or it wasn't the easy ride you made out.

You don't spunk wages on a player like Casilas then have him sit on the bench. He'd be on silly money for what he has to offer.

He'd have to be on at LEAST £80,000 p/w, right?

It was an easy ride because Saints were playing a team shorn of our best players (e.g. away no Mane, Matip or Coutinho starting and Klavan, Karius and Lucas did. At Anfield no Mane, Clyne or Wijnaldum and Karius and AA started). United could maybe cover missing players of that quality we couldn't.
What was your excuse for a poor performance and being outplayed in the final, against a team you call shit, that you could/should have lost ? Terrible offside decision, even Mourinho saying Saints should at least have had ET, Saints more shots and on target, so yes you won but didn't outplay this 'shit' team. One of the papers said it best .. Saints had the better team but United had the best player (Ibra).

Even i as a ManUnited fan must admit that statements like this are pure nonsense

Why should they give any excuse if they won the game/competition? Any team (including Real Madrid or Barcelona) can have an off day and lose against any given opponent in their league/cup. The mark of a good team with good players is when they win even if they play badly (which was not the case of Liverpool against Southampton or Wolves).

Nice excuses. Coutinho was on the bench in the away game and Wijnaldum was on bench at Anfield. Also Anfield game you played with strongest team except Mane and Clyne. That's just 2 players, didn't you tell you have good enough squad?

Also Southmapton missed their best CB in the anfield game, still they kept cleansheet.

Southampton played well in the finals, no doubt about that but your excuses re semi finals games is just lame.

Wijnaldum and Coutinho were both coming back from injury. Wijnaldum came on in the 87th minute and Coutinho in the 61st min. Both were rusty. But of course you do know I'm just replying in kind to Smurf's wumming ;)

It is slightly relevant though, in the sense that you can only beat what's in front of you. It's not our fault that Liverpool weren't good enough to get to the EL final, or that Spurs couldn't get further in Europe.

Just like it's not Liverpool's fault that their first European Cup came from a run against Crusaders, Trabzonspor, St Etienne, FC Zurich and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Liverpool weren't in the EL this year

Really ? Borussia Monchengladbach had won the Bundesliga for 3 years running & St Etienne were not only French champions for the past 3 years running too but runners up in the 1976 European Cup, they were two of the top teams in Europe at that time. That would be the equivalent of beating Bayern Munich and PSG on the way to lifting the cup today. So I'm afraid you're talking out of your arse ;)

I went to the match at Anfield vs. St Et. - one of the best I've ever been to.

This season we've won the two trophies that last season they failed on the finals of.. not to mention we go straight in to the group stages whereas they haven't even qualified yet, so resident Liverpool fans, tell me again how this season you've progressed further than us.

So, resident Liverpool fans:

Who had the better season? Utd or Pool?

Probably pretty similar going by pre-season expectations. Most United fans would be happy if you'd told them we'd get Champions League football and a couple of trophies despite no serious title challenge, most Liverpool fans would be happy getting into the top four despite no silverware.
