Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

Funny, but now not impossible that we could play nearly twice the number of games they will between now and the seasons end, not sure if that's such a good thing as we sit 4 points below them.

Of course it's a good thing. It means we're doing something right.

Yes of course, but my main point was that overhauling a side that is above us whilst playing twice the number of games could be tough, but hopefully they are now beyond help this season.

You have spent the money that demands you be in these competitions. To not be would be deemed a kind of failure. So yes it's a kind of good thing.

I obviously do hope it interferes with your to four ambitions.

Still really like Klopp. The caf is very bitter about him, which is fair enough because he's a Liverpool manager, but he's still a class act in my books. Thought he did well to take responsibility in the post match presser too.

Him being Liverpool manager has nothing to do with why we don't like him, it has everything to do with him being a deluded, hypocritical and bitter twat.

I forgot your team was made on a shoe string budget. Plucky underdogs.

It's absolutely a good thing.

I'd rather be in Utd's position right now than Liverpools. 3 trophies to play for as opposed to zero.

Bullshit. If he were managing another club we wouldn't scrutinise him so much.

Any manager moaning about us playing long ball, then doing the exact same thing the week after, or blaming the fecking wind for a defeat would be getting laughed at on here.

If they play well & win on Tuesday = back ON !! isn't it? Key men have been rested, a couple of others played back towards fitness.

I don't think it will happen, I think Chelsea will probably get a draw at least but you never know. It's still quite a big game for both sides with the points lead being anything-ish from 7 to 13 afterwards. 7pts behind with the games left as they are is not out of contention by any means, in theory.

If you leave the Cup games (with weakened teams) out of this, you *could* say that the Swansea game is just a blip that fits the pattern of their previous blips (awful slack defending vs. teams they ought to beat, possibly some over-confidence)

I'm wrong obviously - the defence is too brittle, but let's not go completely overboard league collapse wise, they are still quite well in that fight, atm, (certainly for 2nd let's say, maybe...)

The keeper has GOT to be coming for that first minute free kick, or at least that has to better than standing a foot off his line waiting for it to be headed past him.

Sorry mate the top paragraph was a quote from a liverpool supporter . I am a United supporter and struggle to understand why Klopp would not go full strength in the FA cup considering how few games they have left to play .

Ah right that explains it.

I was sure i had seen you posting as a united fan, thought you was an undercover for a minute

He always seems to be grinding his teeth and phantom chewing, does anybody else think he may have a drug addiction of some kind?

when he first arrived people on here were saying they couldn't help but like him, much to the annoyance of many on here. Last few months now pressure is on we've seen a different side to him, which people are happily pointing out

Agree with this. I've always really liked him and felt slightly uncomfortable liking the Liverpool manager. But I am happy to say that isn't a problem any more.

Such a relief to get those pesky cups out of the way.

Who wants to watch their team play games anyway.
Klopp is the cult hero. He saved the fan from buying overpriced ticket seeing how they walk out protest last season.

Edit: Stevie Me is such a lucky charm.

Klopp will finally have a chance to get all his players back so we can bench our inadequates and get some semblance of form. How long has it been since:

Mig
Clyne Matip Lovren Milner
Henderson Wijnaldum
Mane Lallana Coutinho
Firmino

Far too long. That's how long. Chelsea will be too early but one game a week after that.
Yeah about time you got to field your absolute best 11 with no one missing against the likes of Wolves.

It's nothing to do with money. The clubs status demands we play in those competitions. Liverpool want to be called a big club but they act like a small one.

Fair enough, Klopper, and just to add, you weren't one of the ones being brash a month ago.

But don't you see that "wait 'til Mané gets back" tells such a story on it's own...?

I like Mané as a player, he's been exciting since his Saints days. But that sentence says a lot. It's Mané ffs.

If it's come to that then Klopp has failed to set this team up to compete with longevity over a season, and that was what lots of us were saying.
Sorry but you are still guessing as to longevity, none of us know how that is going to pan out until the season's over. And our kms run per match stats don't coalesce with reality.

Liverpool team continue to run further on average each game, month on month since the start of the season.....

Average Distance Covered Per Game (km)

August 115.3

September 116.5

October 116.7

November 117.3

December 118.2

January 118.7

Also, as I've mentioned numerous times, our small squad has been hit by injuries to most of our important players (Coutinho, Milner, Clyne, Sturridge, Henderson, Lallana) and absentees (Matip, Mane, Sakho) that it simply couldn't cope with, the matches where we played kids and squaddies and came up short proves nothing in regard to the first team, only that those kids are not ready and squaddies not up to the task .. and we knew that already, or surely do know if there was any doubt before.

Yes, I still think we'll make top $ which is what it was all about. Do note also that I've said many times I'd not be surprised if we were out of the Top 4 come the end of February because of the nature of our schedule, but that with Euro matches for our competitors and our relatively easy run-in in comparison to the other Top 5 teams who will often be playing each other, we have an edge.

Southampton absolutely battered you for all but around 20 minutes of the second leg.

If they'd been 6 nil up on aggregate going into the second half at Anfield you couldn't have complained.

The only team who rode their luck was Liverpool. Southampton were just a much better side.
The best two chances of the match .. by far .... were those Sturridge missed. Everything else, including Coutinho's, were half chances. So no, as usual, you saw what you wanted to see.

Yes. We've played nine games this month, straight after a packed festive schedule with an injury riddled side.

Conversely, we have three games scheduled for February (four if we win today) - with the same again in March, and will shortly have a fully fit first team again.

The season comes in peaks and troughs. We will pick up again. Top four is realistic and would be a great improvement on last season.
This is a reasonable assessment of where we stand. Obviously United fans are hoping / praying that this trough is permanent however it is highly unlikley that when we have all of our first team back and firing that results will continue to go astray and we won't regain our form. As I've just mentioned, injuries to our key players and absentees, have cost us as our small squad, that lacks much quality outside of the top 13/14 players, simply can't cope with the heavy demand of 9 games in a month with those key players absent.

Tadic's chance in the first half was the best chance of the 2nd leg. Even better than Shane Long's. Centre of goal, 8 yards out, ball on the ground on his strongest foot. It was a huge chance. Good save but he should have buried it.

If you are genuinely arguing that either of Sturridge's chances were clearer than that I think you are seeing what you want to see.

No, it wasn't. Sturridge only had to put a foot on the ball and it was in, for both chances. Tadic really did have to try and lift it over a keeper who was out fast and closed him down.

Just for the heck of it then I'm back off to building my website which is a lot more fun / interesting :

Karius - 6 - let down by defenders not defending.

Randall - 3 - simply not good enough at even this level and is a slow, defensive, FB. Should never have been picked for this game.

Gomez - 5 - he's still very young and has just come back from what 12-18 months out ? feck off if you think you can determine how good he's going to be from the few minutes he's had since returning.

Klavan - 4 - he struggles against pace and should never have been selected for this game.

Moreno 3 - please go away and never come back.

Lucas - 2 - dear fecking Christ. Why are you still here ?

Wijnaldum - 4 - really poor game from him. Shocking because he's so much better than that.

Ejaria - 6 - I think this kid has something, an improvement on Can even now.

Firmino - 4 - zero support from midfield. Why oh why play him wide left when we all know that is his worst, least effective, position.

Origi - 5 - zero support from midfield. Often dropped deep to even see some of the ball (where he did OK TBH). A goal.

Woodburn - 6 - zero support from midfield. Better in the second half but he's 17 years old FFS. He's an out and out striker and he's being played as a makeshift winger / wingback ? When we also have Ojo (who played well when brought on the other day) and Wilson (very tricky and scores a lot of goals, 19 this season for the U23's), both speed merchants with skill, even if both very young, so really Klopp ... WTF ?

Subs.
Coutinho - 6 - couldn't do it alone, though he tried to.

Can - 4 - who ? I didn't even notice him, zero affect on the team. he's gone backwards this season.

Sturridge - 4 - he's gone hasn't he. Skill is still there but pace and willingness to put in the effort aren't there any longer.

Klopp - 0 - Wrong team (though I agree with saving some players for Chelsea, they've already had a very hard month and a few are just back from injury too), wrong substitutions, wrong tactics.

Sad indictment of your squad and mentality. The warning signs were there against Plymouth.

But despite that and also an EFL semi final exit just days before, and the fact that Liverpool have only won one trophy in the last decade, Klopp still puts out a weakened team in the FA Cup.

You deserve to finish out of the top 4 for that alone. Incredibly small time.

Then again, let's see how high you are in the league next season with a CL campaign running in tandem. That'll be fun.

You've played mostly on the same 8-9 players the whole league campaign. Henderson has played in every league game except 1. Lallana 2. Clyne 1. Milner 2,5. Mané 3. Sturridge stopped being important last season when he stopped being good and Sakho simply isn't picked by Klopp. It's not a lot of injuries quite frankly.

Only the one CB position and the goalkeeper has been a problem but the gk due to performance rather than injury.
