Junior Hoilett

Park out and Hoilett in would be a good transfer option in my eyes.

You could arguably say most of the big clubs beside us have moved away from wingers in the traditional sense. City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barca, Real, Bayern, Inter, Milan, etc don't really use them. It's more of a 4-3-3 or some variation of a diamond midfield. Spurs are the other club I can think of who use them. Common thread between the two is obvious. And some have said that tradition play has cost us in Europe.

Well, many of those teams do have at least one winger like that sometimes. Arsenal vary. Depends on who's on the pitch. Walcott against Newcastle felt like a winger. Ox plays like a winger.

City have Johnson. Real have Di Maria. Bayern certainly uses wingers.

Not seen tonight's game but heard he scored. Been impressed most times I've seen him play. With Nani, Tony and Young already in the squad though I'd be surprised if we went for him.

I wish commentators/media would either just stick with "David" or "Junior" ... there was at least a few hours the other week where I actually honestly thought Blackburn had two Hoilett's

Commentators don't have to accomodate retards AN...

:D

Kind of signing Fergie would make. If he likes him it doesn't matter if we have 3 or 4 wingers, he'll get him. And Park isn't really a winger anymore, so a move for him would make sense.

Looked good again yesterday, i don't watch B'burn a lot admittedly, but every time i do Hoilett looks impressive. He has good pace and skill, a decent strike and he always seems to want to make something happen. I like the look of him so far.

Is he Canandian or English? Anyway he has got decent points for me in my fantasy league, so i conclude he should be a useful player to have in your team

Canadian.

He's looked pretty decent this year especially the last few weeks. I know we have a lot of cover in the wide areas, it wouldn't surprise me though if we were to go in for him in the summer. Free, young and quick. Also not been mentioned in being linked to a lot of places so could be done quickly.

He'd be a good signing for someone like Villa or Sunderland

Hope he has a shocker tonight, but I still reckon he'd be a good signing.

I mean, uhh, reverse jinx.

I thought he looked quite good today, definitely worth a punt if available for free.

yep, carried the ball a bit much and didnt play the obvious pass down the right channel (his shot was then blocked) but he looked a menace coming in off the wing.

Hard to judge because Blackburn played on the counter and had so little of the ball.

I'd have him here on a free (or compensation fee, whatever it is) as a player to provide cover and as an option. He'd be a good option to call on, Nani, Valencia, Young and Hoilett would be a superb wing team.

I thought he looked very good again tonight, used the ball well and almost scored but for a decent save from De Gea, despite often being marked by two players. Could definitely see us signing him in the summer considering his age and potential for improvement. Would be a great young option to have on the left.

Cant see us going for him having signed Young, but he'll be a very good signing for pretty much anyone else in the league.

Normally I would agree with you, but given that he'll be leaving on a free I think we'll definitely be looking at signing him. Young hasn't been a great success either, he's been alright but fairly inconsistent and didn't kick on from his early season form.

Plus this could possibly be Parks last season so it would make sense to get another option on the left. He won't be ready for the first team straight away but if we did sign him, I think by the following season he would be challenging Young for a starting place. He certainly has the potential to reach that standard.

You make it sound like Young is in the first choice XI when in fact he isn't. Our first choice set of wingers would be Nani and Valencia and those two by a long way. I'm of the firm belief though that we need four quality/decent wingers in the team and given I have massive doubts about what Park now brings to the table we could do with a player of Hoillett's ilk.

Don't you think we'd be better off replacing Park with a similar player though? We've got enough direct, pacey wingers there now with those three so it could be useful to have someone who likes to do as Giggs/Park do and come inside and link up the play through short-passing interchanges and smart movement to offer a different option.

For me Hoilett's no better than someone like N'Zogbia, worth a punt for Liverpool but not a top club at this stage.

Young had a dip in form after injury and is looking quality again.

I'd pick the lad up on a free mind. It would be the end of Park I would imagine.

Valencia has never played on the left and Nani has only played there rarely, the same amount as Park in fact. Young has played there twice as often.

Nani might end up playing there if his and Valencia's form is too good to justify dropping one of them, but at the moment I'd say they were definitely both right wingers, so Young was first choice on the left. His number of starts on the left justify that I think, despite him being out of form for large periods of the season.

This signing would make sense, along with the supposed one of Clyne. Young players with potential to improve, coming for a minimal fee from smaller English clubs, leaving room for any serious money we have to spend in the summer to go on the central midfield area, if needed. Makes sense to me.

Yeah maybe, but I think Young has the potential to be that kind of player, he has a tendency to cut inside more often than attack the byline. I actually think on the left we are missing the sort of direct, pacy attack that we have on the right. Although I'm not sure how much that has to do with Young's confidence because he seems really unwilling to take on his man, so that could change now he is coming back into form.

Also, don't you think direct, skillful wingers suit us best? I think with Rooney dropping deep the way he does, that a winger cutting inside all the time would be playing in the same area of the pitch. The way Nani and Valencia play when on form is devasting for other teams, so it can only be a good thing to see similar attacks on the left.

Hoilett is younger than N'Zogbia though, and he is definitely naturally more talented. Plus N'Zogbia has been pretty shit for Villa this year, I remember him getting dropped for a few games. I would say Hoilett has had a significantly better season. Maybe he isn't good enough for United though, if he wasn't available on a free then I don't think we would be looking at him, but given he is I think it would be worth a punt and see how he develops in a few years. Even if he didn't fully make it to United standard and we ended up selling him for £6-7million we would more than make our money back. In reality though I expect we would get a lot more for him because he does look to be pretty talented.

What do you mean like N'Zogbia? He comes with a baggage you know. Attitude and the like. He'd be a better player with a better attitude so comparing him to Hoilett is a discredit I feel.

Don't you think we'd be better off replacing Park with a similar player though?.....
No. We are better off sorting out the quality in our midfield. Than spending on the next Park. For that reason alone I'd not mind us snatching a player like Hoilet for zero pounds. After all it can be said Valencia is our new and improved Park.

Also Hoilett is young enough to be coached into a star. Comparing him to an N'zogbia is pretty unfair.

There is something special about this lad, and it'll show once he's around better players.

Not sure if he's ready for a club as big as ours...but for the price he'll go at in the summer, I don't think we should miss out on a bid. He's looked better then Obertan, Bebe and Tosic combined.

I'm with you on that one. Those four as wing players would be great for us.

However, I can see him going to Spurs, seeing as Lennon has been in and out through injury, he's work great there.
