Yes he is very good and calm and a steady defender. Exactly what we need to replace Dennis.

quote from planetfootball

Escude's two French agents Bruno Satin and Axel Lablatiniere confirmed that United had expressed an interest in the player and that the 22-year-old would move to England next week.

"Julien Escude will sign next week for a great English club and it is true that Manchester United are one of the possibilities," said Satin.

Lablatiniere admitted that United would be Escude's first choice of destination.

"United would be Julien's first choice and they are the club which has shown most interest," said Lablatiniere.

it seem like United might use the money from Yorke's transfer to buy Escude

however, is the quote reliable or not? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

IF Yorke moves we will need another forward to cover up!!!! Given that both Irwin and Johnsen have moved and we reinforced with a brilliant replacement I think we would do with Escude and a 4th striker (If Disco leaves)

If 4-4-1-1 formation is used, 3 strikers will be fine.

My wish list for left back (if Silvestre leave) will be Wayne Bridge. We will form the next England back four - Gary - Rio - Brown - Bridge. ;)

Yes but Escude is as good and will come cheaper. Given that English teams know that United have Cash and Nike, they will unnecessarily hike up the prices. Cluns in France will settle for a lot less. Look how the Poo are getting loads at cut prices. And Bruno Cheyrou is damn good for the price.

I've seen his brother Nicolas in action at the French Open. Don't know much about Julien...

if they're indeed brothers, i say sign him - Nicolas is best known for winning some mammoth five-setters! :)

The BBC are running the story <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/2151239.stm" target="_blank">now</a>.

Sounds like a good move. He not only can play LB but also CB, and at 4m for an up and coming french international it might be just what we need.

Escude in will boost the transfer rumours on phil (mentioned in the same article on planetfootball). Silvestre might also be under pressure...
United should go for Escude instead of another striker. We have RVN, Ole, Scholes, Giggs, Forlan - all top strikers or back up if injuries. Eidur/Duff could be interesting, but seems to be too expensive.
With the possible sales of Phil, Yorke, (and Fortune!) we might look at a Cisse.priced striker...

Not sure about the striker bit!! Scholes does not like it up front as was clear last season and Forlan although promising has not shown it yet. If Ruud gets injured it looks bleak up front.

Escude sounds like a better bet than Gallas. Just been reading that he'd cost 7.5m (its in his contract)

From Sky Sports:

The Elland Road club are considering a £7.5million bid for the French defender, according to his agent Willie McKay.

McKay says that Gallas is not happy with the new terms being offered to him at Stamford Bridge and Leeds, who need a replacement for Rio Ferdinand, could exploit the clause in his current deal that will allowing him to leave for £1.5million more than the £6million he cost from Marseille.

Rednews:

Escude's agent Axel Lablatiniere

"Manchester United are interested in Julien and have made enquiries. There has been no concrete offer made yet, but they are keen on the player. He caught the eye of several clubs after impressing in the European Under-21 Championship. Leeds have also expressed an interest in Julien but again no firm offer has been received. Julien would really like to join United because they are one of the best clubs in Europe and it is a move that every young player wants"

:D

It's almost a no-brainer. French international,22 yrs. old,4m, can play LB and CB.
Kenyon has that kind of money on his dresser.

But since the purchace of Ferdinand, the main area which needs improvement is the attack. In defense, we have Ferdinand, Blanc, Gary, Phil, Silvestre, Brown, O'Shea ... As Yorke will probably leave, we have Ruud, Ole, and Forlan up front. Scholes doesn't play too well up there and Giggs is needed in midfield. 3 strikers aren't enough, especially as Forlan isn't exactly a natural finisher. We should use the money from Yorke's transfer to buy a striker.

but is he willing to spend it? hopefully when (crossing fingers) disco is sold we we willsomething else happen in the transfer market.

I think we've still got two transfers in us before the summers out. It will all be triggered by Yorkie's departure imo.

Fergie has made it clear that he wants a replacement for Denis on several occasions. We will definitely need a 4th striker to replace Yorkie as well.

Yeah we need a fourth striker, but we also need cover @ LB and i don't know about you but Blanc doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

A 4th striker ..yes that's what I think we will need ... but if the purse string is tight and we could only have like 4mil to spare this round ... that couldn't really buy us any good striker to be frank !! .. even Forlan needs 7.5mil ...

IF that's the scenario then I think we should just be contended with another good defender .. Many here have got the same view as me since the start of off-season ... we are obviously needing 3 new players in a CB, a fullback and a new No.9 ... but well - things don't always be ideal we have to admit ..

Another rumour. Enjoy but take it with a pinch of salt.

There's a quote from Escude.

Looks like the rumours of United's interest is true. He even says he's spoken to Fergie! But the hint is at 2003-2004.

Bye-bye Silvestre??

Escude's a bargain & we should jump at it...however what is a bit more worrying now is that it is almost universally agreed we need another striker (& good strikers are not cheap!)....If Ruud got a bad injury we would be in trouble, or if he is knackered at the end of the season thru' not being rested enough....I can't believe SAF does not have a plan to bring in a 4th striker...I agree with Raoul that there are more signings to come ....

I saw a game last night on Ch5. He was playing, he looked comfortable on the ball. Decent tacklet and passer of it too.

What I just read on planetfootball (supposed quotes), does not suggest that Escude is dying to play for us.

Kenyon bought Veron and Ruud, said he wouldn't buy anymore... and bought Forlan ;)

My feeling that he wasn't lying still remains. If we sell, however then we'd assume a purchase would be on. I would have thought a replacement though. Can't see any strikers worth 2m that we'd be interested in though can you? ;)

that's quite similar with my point ... we could still able to squeeze out some $ and sign somebody. .. but can't think of it being a striker unless we co for free agent like the one I posted the other day ( Asta, Torino's captain ) ... Or a loan deal could be possible but not favourable I would think ...

Yorke is gone now ... and 2mil in the coffer ... top it up another 2mil and we cuold have Julien with a much less wages ?! ;)

Several in the 2-5m range. Ashton, Zamora, DiCanio, Mal Christie, Flo. A player like Pauletta would be ideal, though he would go for much more.

All those you mentioned Raoul ... except certain PDC ... Once we show some interest their price will be jacked up more than 5mil I reckon ... Furthermore I think if Fergie gonna buy a new No.9 .... it will have to be some one experience ... To get Zamora I actually think we must as well give Webber and Davies a chance to shine ...
