Something to see here

I think we will pickup a cheap striker & a cheap cm if we lose martial, mata and maybe one other

I don't see why we'd need this guy. Our Midfield is the biggest issue by far
It's probably an opportunity for one the upcoming stars from an established football powerhouse which usually produces fine talent. If he turns out to be an Aguerro or Suarez level (highly unlikely) then we will be set for years and if he fails we recoup most of our investment either in a direct sale or through multiple loans (Villa paid us £5m for Axel).

with martial and maybe cavani leaving soon, we need somebody upfront. For the price and reputation he would be suitable asset by playing style while price is low, so why not to try? we are scared to sign somebody below 20 million even him to be squad player. I miss so much smart pieces of buisness where risk is higher but reward as well. Not saying Julian is perfect player and superstar already, just it would be good piece of transfer when two upfront are leaving situation

RR, has a reputation throughout his career of uncovering talent that others have overlooked and getting the best out of them before selling them on. Not saying it's the case with Alvarez, as hes a River Plate player, but it wouldnt suprise me if some of our future signings are "who is that?" Obscure players. If RR and our scouting network can unearth the next Kante, VVD or Luis Suarez then the future could be bright.

Rio’s mate on twitter who along with Rio was posting cryptic tweets in build up to Ronaldo signing has just done similar in regards to Alvarez

Are you talking about Howson?

He mentions in another tweet that he has no information on this.

Can he play the workhorse type of forward aka tevez, cavani ?

Could be a really asset and if we go for him and it turns out bad? , we could offload him with very little loss seeing how cheap that release clause is

Nobody reliable reporting our interest though as far as I can see?

Seems similar to the Caicedo transfer where we are being dragged into it by South American reporters.
It could possibly indicate that Murtough, Ralf and Fletcher arent casually talking about transfer targets with the playing staff which would be a big positive. But youre right, we havent seen a genuinely reliable hard link from our side yet.

I confess my wish that a couple of weeks after he signs, it will be discovered that he has tattooed Malvinas and Maradona's hand, haha

More seriously, it is a bet with some risk but for an acceptable price, he is one of the greatest talents in Argentina but it should be noted that Argentine football is in a time of poor talent.

the most natural thing would be to have a first experience in Europe in the southern countries, where adaptation would be easier, due to languages and climate.

Let's see what happens

Nothing from the likes of Andy Mitten or Laurie Whitwell on this, hence I'm not believing it. This feels very much like that Caciedo kid from last year, who ended up at Brighton.

Its just youtube but like what seeign on there. I disagree with this unearthed gem comment on Rahnik regardign Alvares though, has had a phenomenal season by the looks of it and already has a few caps now for one of the best attacking countries in world football. Just because most of us havent heard of him beign South American, hardl seems like he woul dbe an unknown player to loads of top scouts especially.

Our priority should be central midfield and we are currently bloated in attack, but lets face it....by the summer there may be no Pogba for the left, Martial for the left or up front, Lingard or Mata for wide berths, Cavani up front. We could be left with Rashford, Ronaldo, Greenwood and Sancho with onl yyoungsters liek Elanga, Amad, Hannibal and Pellestri behind them, so this type of signing whether its Alvarez or someone else makes sense

I like what i see about Alvarez.
Great talent and skill.

That Youtube video makes him look more like Greenwood than anything. I'm not seeing much to suggest he's a poacher.

With the all the uncertainty around Martial, Cavani and Ronaldo, I think United should be looking to round out the striking options. Either a targetman or a fox-in-the-box. Not another player in the mould of what we already have.

As others have said, this seems like the classic playbook of agents. Obviously being a United fan it feels like it happens more with us, but probably happens the same with the other big clubs.

Yeah playing for River Plate that knows how to create openings and plays with some cohesion. Wait until he gets to Old Trafford and can't speak the language, the fanbase don't take him seriously because he's small for their liking. Forced to play an unfamiliar second string role. See how he plays then.

He can finish thats very clear. Would be worth a punt for less than 20mill

Yeah, agreed.

Do not emotionally invest until you see an English source.

Getting a twitch now after seeing Cavani say goodbye to the fans. If him and Martial goes, makes a lot of sense.

Hopefully this is the club data science department finally get something right after analysing 20,000 strikers instead of always going for the obvious one like Haaland.

Howson is the first person I’d even remotely trust hint there’s anything in this, as he’s clearly got sources and knows people these days.

Yes, we will see then as i'm not Nostradamus.
But he's worth a punt at 20M from what we're seeing.

Post above claims Howson has said he knows nothing.

The next Diego Forlan?

He wasn't really a massive success, but the similarities are there - relatively smallish forward does well in the pitiful Argentinian league (look at the defending in the youtube vid), comes to England and struggles against decent defenders before ending up at Villareal.

I'd have him over Martial though - any day.

Forlan was 6ft+ wasn't he? When he filled out he was actually a bit of a beast. The hope with this lad would be "new Tevez but not a twat" wouldn't it?

Just looked him up - he was 5'11". Not tall for a striker. So comparison still valid in my book!
