What the hell have we been doing? Loan the bloke back to them just get the signature. Incomprehensible again it’s just the norm now. If we don’t act like a big club off the pitch we won’t be one on the pitch.

This club . Monitoring FC, Considering FC, yadda yadda, it's all we do, we'll spunk 100mill on someone half as talented instead, it's pretty much the norm at this point

He's probably one of dozens and dozens and dozens we scout and keep an eye on. Because some completely unreliable report linking us with him, some of you are distraught or using it as a stick to beat the club with? Goodness. The muppets reliable journos have said from day one we aren't interested. You can't pick and choose.

There are plenty of reasons to bash this club, this isn't one of them.

The link to him earlier had me interested. He wouldn't be too expensive. If he comes good and is the next Aguero, then it is beautiful. If not, he will be sold to a Laliga team. I am disappointed that United aren't more proactive.

Never seen him play nor watched a YT compilation video but I wish we went in for him instead of spunking £70m on Sancho.

In all honesty though given our notoriously bad scouting department, we could do worse than just waiting to see who City and Brighton are trying to sign, and then just offer £5m on top. We'd still end up with Fred but we'd be well shot of the likes of Van De Beek, AWB, Sancho etc

After months of scouting Darren Fletcher has concluded that Alvarez is not British enough. McGinn on the other hand...

Nothing to do with Alvarez but I have a feeling Ralf will streamline and change the scouting setup too if he’s let. It’s just not happening for us. There are an army of undervalued players out there and we aren’t hitting upon any of them unfortunately. For example Getting Lindelof, having obviously scouted Benfica throughly and 2 years later we go for Maguire instead of the cheaper and better Dias. Stuff like that. If the scouts had any real power at this club and are genuinely fit for purpose then surely they know we are getting reamed all too often.

Why sign Alvarez for £17 million when we can let City sign him and turn a profit, before we show up at Sevilla's door all guns blazing and pay £80 million for him in 3 years time.

He’ll just take Ferran Torres’ spot in the side. Would be surprised if he gets consistent game time

Spot on, it's weird.

His highlights video looks good but not THAT good. And wasn't he pushing 22 already? Practically ancient by muppet standards.

Seems likely to be a fuss over nothing to me.

Genuinely couldn't care any less. If he came here, he'd get zero game time anyway.

He might be good, might never adapt, who bloody knows. We certainly wouldn't be able to give him a chance to find out with our attacking options.

£26m is peanuts. If a player is PL quality at all, at any level, and is 26 or under, you'll get that every time, no bother.

It's why I don't understand why we don't take more punts. Just sign this lad for God sake, he'd have to be extraordinarily awful for us not to get £17m back in a world where Jordan Ibe and that Brewster lad cost a combined £35m
I think we got 15mil for Smalling (Premier League proven plus full international) and we would be lucky to get 5mil for Andreas.
Not as easy for us it seems.

Doesn't really matter who United buy until there's an established permanent manager it's potentially a waste of resources. I concede that many players will look different under Guardiola at City compared to their potential impact at United. The club is still trying to find an identity.

I have absolutely no idea how the Glazers have amassed success in business, they should have had conversations / verbal agreements with the next preceding manager with the intent of making the summer preparations before the appointed times. When you consider actions of City before the arrival of Pep, hiring Txiki Begiristain, making sure the conditions was suitable for the implementation of the manager, compared to the fiasco transitioning from Solskjaer missing out of the likes of Conte. The hierarchy from a pure business standpoint is absolutely laughable.

Not fussed at all with this one. We all know how this story goes. He comes to us, he'll be shit. He goes to City, he'll be amazing. When it rains, it pours.

South Americans rarely work out for us anyway. We've had so many fail to settle here and/or flop.

Not fussed until he bangs in 18 goals in a season. Then I'll be pissed.

Rangknick wanted this kid but it looks like he won't be allowed to make any signings. United may have missed a trick here.

So true! Despite my scathing comments towards him I'd still likely venture Sancho would have been great for Liverpool. :)

Over the last two pages the posts marked ‘Newbie’ all follow a similar pattern if hysteria.

We shouldn’t be worrying who City sign or not. We are so far from their level that we’ve become somewhat irrelevant.

We also have much more pressing areas of the squad that need fixing, preferably in central midfield. Although it is looking increasingly likely that we will sign no one to help us push for the very slim chance of us getting top 4.

Caf scouts getting annoyed about some player they've never seen play. Like the guy that went to Brighton last year that was going to transform out midfield.

I don't believe anyone said Caicedo was gonna transform our midfield and neither did anyone claim they'd seen him play much. But when the previous Manager neglected the midfield for 3 years having spent over 400m in the process, then I can understand why people would get excited about a midfield prospect that was highly rated in South America. The player has ended up at Brighton, and from a developmental pov, it's the correct move for a young player joining a team with a excellent setup led by Dan Ashworth on the football side.

Not kept up with this but I presume he's unanimously amazing now City are linked?

The boy will need time to adapt, he’s still just a soon to be 22 year old with a 5 month hot streak in the 18th best league in the world. If he is Aguero 2.0 he is smaller and a late bloomer as well. Aguero had been banging in goals in Spain for years already at this age. Good luck to him, but most likely a bullet dodged for us.

We already bought a South American to gamble on.. so all the best to City. Hope he turns out to be a Aguero minus the goals and the talent.

Wait, let me get this straight. If City buy literally dog poo in a bag there will be people on here who would cry about it and say we should've bought it instead. Crazy world

I think we will regret that as we also will need a striker for the upcoming season. And he looks very promising.
