Juan Manuel Iturbe - the next Messi?

So, 8 goals and 4 assists for an overachieving Verona side this season. Wonder where his future lies after his loan spell? He has been linked with Madrid and Liverpool so far. The Madrid link does seem far fetched, though.

I don't watch a massive amount of Serie A, so I haven't seen much of him for Verona at all. Has anyone paid much attention to him? Is he playing behind the striker or out wide?

Verona have now signed him permanently, but it's expected that they'll be selling him to another club this summer.

Roma's sporting director:

While ruling out an exit for Benatia, Sabatini has revealed that long-serving Brazilian Rodrigo Taddei is to leave the club and that interest is being shown in Hellas Verona winger Juan Iturbe.

He added: "We are interested in Iturbe and I've already met one of his agents. We're following him but it is a complex negotiation.

"Taddei? We think he's finished his time at Roma. This choice pains me, but I thank him for what he has done for Roma."

Verona's sporting director:

“Iturbe? Iturbe is a special guy, it has been nice to see him grow. He has showed many great qualities, he is destined to have a great career if he keeps this mentality, some of which he had already and some he partially acquired with us.

“We cannot hide it, we know that he’s in the middle of important negotiations and if the right offer arrives then he’ll be destined to leave, but if one does not arrive then he will remain with us and the team would be happiest with this."

I like signing teenagers and throwing them into the under 21s. Improve the quality of the youth set up as much as possible. I would rather have some kid dubbed the next Messi in the under 21s than have 23yo Petrucci and 24yo Amos in under 21s.

We should be getting as many teenagers and kids as possible. Snap them up and develop them into top quality prospects. I just want us to have the no1 academy in the world. Too much to ask for?

Don't write players off because they are older. Yes, Petrucci and Amos aren't going to make it here, but if a lot of people on here had their way we'd get shot of every player who's not made his first team debut by 18, and any player over 30.

The U21 set-up is not fit for purpose. Filling our youth squad out with 'top quality prospects' will stifle their development. In the interests of the club, it is best to watch them develop elsewhere, and if they are good enough, spending a bit more money to get them here.

We're not entitled to all the best players in the world.

Seemingly close to Milan, although a lot of top clubs have been credited with an interest. The kid has enormous potential from what I've seen.

I'd be surprised if he ends up at Milan, they need to shift Kaka before they do anything and that seems to be dragging out. Iturbe & Juve have an agreement already so if they agree a fee soon I think he'll end up there. Hellas Verona's sporting director is off to Milan though apparently so that could help them.

Surely Sanchez is Juve's first choice though?

Nah Iturbe apparently, can't see Juve paying what Barca would want for Sanchez. They hate spending money. Not that Iturbe will be exactly cheap.

Isn't the amount being touted around £20-25m? That aint too much given his potential and quality.

Yeah apparently, which is a bargain, but it's Juve we're talking about. They were complaining because Barca wouldn't sell him for €20m and they won't budge from that so I think they've just given up on him. They hate spending & have a strict wage structure.

I also thought we had some sort of option with this lad? Did we give it up?

Never heard that but he moved from Porto to Hellas Verona this season after being there on loan (even though he's not staying there so I'm not sure why) so even if we did it's too late to take up now.

 FIFA 14 has it wrong then!

Also Real madrid were rumoured to be in for him if they sell Morata

He's just signed for Hellas this window that's why, was only on loan there this season just gone. He's not staying though.

Yep. Hellas had an option as part of their loan deal with Porto to buy out the sporting rights of Iturbe and they did this May for 15M euros. Hellas will get more than that when they sell him.

It's crazy to think that a club as well run as Porto will their renowned ability to get maximum value for their players would agree/put in a clause to lose Iturbe for just £15m.

He didn't really play much for Porto so they wouldn't have been able to get more for him than that and his stock rose massively after the season he's had at Hellas. Don't think they'd have expected them to activate the clause as they beat all expectations by finishing 10th, would've been one of a few teams tipped for relegation prior to this season. Will be a nice profit for Hellas anyway, they'll pick up at least €25m for him I think.

No, I agree he's been poor whenever I've seen him for Porto and last year he looked a revelation, but his potential was always there to see and the clause, even if they they thought it unlikely to be activated, was a bit naive. Anyway, congratulations to Hellas, they'll get some deserved profit on him now.

Iturbe may well be an important domino in this game of ours to acquire a certain Chilean. His (Iturbe) signing may well negate any desire for our very own Portuguese winger, therefore potentially weakening our hand in negotiations.

Milan have pulled out as they don't wanna pay €25m according to some Milan radio and Hellas won't sell for lower apparently. Unless it's just Galliani covering his arse as they think Juve are favourites & Di Marzio's said they haven't pulled out.

Signed for Roma tonight for c. €30m. Top prospect who we will be locked in battle with Real and PSG to try and sign within 24 months.

Juve fans must be well pissed about this. I thought they were signing him as an alternative to Sanchez?

Verona doubled their money within a week or so, very smart stuff. Good move for him too, hopefully he'll realise his potential at Roma.

I thought it was a 100% deal to sign Iturbe for Juventus. However they still signed Morata.

They haven't signed Morata yet & things could change with Allegri wanting Pastore & Candreva.

I wonder if he'll fall into the "I wish we'd gotten in on the ground floor" set of players.

Delighted Roma has signed him. Roma has done some solid transfer business till now.
Hope noone will be sold, I heard Benatia said he's staying.

Roma will be interesting to follow in the upcoming season, especially since Conte resigned from Juve. Their transfer business has been good so far.

Yup if they will perform like last year it could get interesting especially with that clown Allegri being Juve manager.
Crucial thing for Roma has been Rudi Garcia, he really transformed and turned them into a great squad after disastrous 12-13 season.

Napoli ought to be up there or around too.

Roma seem to want to shift Ljajic out to make a try for Shaqiri now.
