Joseph Anthony Barton

I love all the 'Fergie could sort him out' comments.

Why would Fergie want to waste his time
'sorting out' the head of a player whose likely to cause a shedload of trouble until he is 'sorted out' and even when he is only actually being good enough to be 4th or 5th choice in his position anyway?

Newcastle were offered stupid money for Carroll and would have been stupid not to take it. They also have a host of 'stars' on big money (not sure if Nolan was one of them), they have to be realistic and cut their wage bill.

Exactly.

He's an oudious little cretin and they want shot.

He's already said he planned running down his contract and they'd obviously rather not have him hanging round for the season.

May seem short sighted by the club but should tell everyone what sort of guy he is to have round the place.

Agreed - better getting him away rather than have him around causing trouble and collecting his wages for doing nowt.

Good post! But while Newcastle are not big globally, at national level they are. They were a big club long before Keegan...feel sorry for the Geordies

Depends whay you consider a big club at "national level"

They have high attendances and the fans are passionate, fair enough, but a lot of clubs have that, it doesnt translate into success on the pitch.

Seems there's a misconception about Newcastle - before Keegen arrived they were struggling in what is now the Championship and nearly went down further and they hadn't won anything then for decades.

People seem to remember the Keegen years where they were "the entertainers" but in reality that lasted all of about two years.

I have to say having lived in newcastle for a number of years I got sick of having the fans sense of self entitlement rammed down my throat all the time. Seems a lot think they deserve to be winning trophies, regardless of the actual reality of modern football - they need to get back in the real world.

Agree with Eyepopper, it's not like Barton is Ronaldinho or Adriano, he's an average player and even if he's sorted out he will remain one so it'd be a pointless buy. He wouldn't improve our midfield, he'd just add numbers to it, although at this point we might even settle for that as we're short.

An ideal signing for wenger because he is free.

Adriano was never that good, in my opinion. Did his best work at Parma, fffs, who stopped being good around 2000.

I can't believe there's an 8 page thread on Joey Barton and we haven't even been linked with him. Are we really that desperate for another midfielder?

I reckon a some of this lot are, seeing as I can actually read posters saying stuff like 'I wouldn't mind Joey Barton', 'Fergie'd sort him out' and assorted nonsense.

Joey fecking Barton...? Get fecked!

:nono:

27 goals in 29 games, starting from the Copa America in July to the Serie A break in late December, he was quite incredible in 04/05. 36 in 42 starts for the calendar year of 2004. I think he's remembered as his best self a bit more than he should but there was a point when he was unstoppable in the same way as Drogba was.

Barton would destroy United's atmosphere of friendship and unity.

To be honest, return of David Beckham would be a better idea that this...

Yup. Why on earth would we want to sign a psychopathic jailbird with a history of violence who's named after his granny's budgie? What's worse though is that he played for the berties. That alone should disqualify him.

That's the point, mate.

Barton had his chances to improve himself and he failed to understand his mistakes.

Young Ravel Morrison deserve the chance and in my opinion, he got bigger potential than Barton.

I hope Morrison doesn't get into any more bother with the law. Sounds like he's in with a bad crowd. It would be a shame if he chucked away his career at United. Still, he's only a young lad and there's time for him to get a grip of himself, but if Fergie and senior players like Rio can't impress him, I'm afraid there's not a lot of hope.

Ha ha the inevitable, 2 weeks wages fine has just arrived. Needless to say it shall be appealed forthwith. #kickingamanwhilsthesdownha

Sorry, not the biggest fan but Newcastle are just being complete arses now! :nono:

He is quoting George Orwell on twitter.

How can you not love Joey Barton?

That's not all -- he has quoted Darwin, The Smiths, Dalai Lama, Nietzsche, Einstein, and those are just the ones that have passed my gaze.

Clearly you've conned your fair share into believing you were some faux intellectual. Fair enough, means and ends and all that jazz.

Joey Barton quoting Nietzsche? feck me. All of this is slightly disturbing information.

Which would mean I was an actual intellectual.

I take it this was an attempt at insult.

FAIL!

Fail, and in caps? You might as well have put "in yo' face" there

Oh and I am bookmarking that brainyquote site, easiest way to becoming an actual intellectual.

Quoting Orwell and the Smiths?

fecking awesome!

I'm not averse to picking him up on the cheap, he was very good for Newcastle last season, he has shown improvement from his past misdeeds, and at the very least he'd offer some cover for Carrick, Anderson and Fletcher's inability to stay in form for a whole fecking season

is this some kind of a joke....no place for thugs like him here.

Are Arsenal really interested in signing him? I am confident we will not even look his way even if its a free transfer. The BBC reports Tottenham are stolen a march on rivals Arsenal and Man Utd but I don't think the latter two teams are even interested.
