Jose Mourinho | Spurs manager

At every club he's been at since 2002, Mourinho has won trophies. Will he win one at Spurs?

I think it could be a great appointment for Spurs. A lot about them at the moment seems to suit Jose's style. Good to see him back managing in the league too. Just hope we batter them in a fortnight :D

It could be good & also bad for them. They got Kane, Son in attack & experienced defense, they can do well or even win trophy this season & next season. But afterwards, it'll be interesting to see how he transforms the club, could leave them with a lot of ageing deadwood players.

By the way, Matic is available in January. Hope Jose takes him.

Good move for him, although questions will be raised working on transfers along with Levy.

I'm really looking forward to Spurs v United now. Both games this season are pending, and it will be a dream scenario if Ole can tactically outperform Jose. Fingers crossed. I hope Ole can make that happen.

Jose doing that to Ole is more likely though!

United were never underdog (at least in 2016-2018) just like how Madrid were not underdogs. The size of the club is too big to be considered as underdogs, not talking about just 11 players.
I'm not saying United were an underdog when Mourinho took over, I'm just saying they were more of one than Spurs currently are. In the three seasons before Mourinho's appointment United finished 7th, 4th, 5th and won the FA Cup. In the last three seasons under Poch, Spurs have finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and reached the Champions League final. The level of expectation at Spurs might not be the same as at United but Spurs are still currently better placed to succeed than United were in 2016.

Anyway, this is getting away from the point, which is that this is a horrible appointment by Spurs and just about the worst decision Levy could have made to patch the team back together after a difficult spell. We know how this is going to go: Mourinho will probably win one of the domestic cups in the next two seasons but will leave them considerably worse off in almost every department, before leaving under a cloud with a massive payout. He's done the same thing at every club he's been at since forever - why would this go any differently?

Exactly. I like him, I just find people who hero worship as an adult very strange. It's kids stuff, but then you look on here and you've got all types of fanboys.

That's true. Whatever you think about Mourinho personally, it's undeniable that he was practically begging to be sacked by the end. We were right to get rid (just as Spurs will likely be justified in dispensing with him in 2-3 season's time). In the interim, I think he'll do OK for them, though.

No they weren't, there is a reason why people always thought that they were underachieving. You can't claim that they weren't potential winners and also claim that by not winning it, they underachieved. Mourinho was also hired to specifically win it and put an end to the underachievement.

Inter as a club underachieved in CL/Europe, they were never favorites to win it. They didn't underachieve based on the quality of the team, they underachieved based on the size of the club.

At not point they were favorites to win, they were underdogs and for the club of their size, they were underachievers.

Mourinho and Dan Levy sounds like a match made in hell. Levy is notoriously stingy, and Mourinho melted down completely because apparently the 450 million euro United allowed him to spend wasn't enough for Baby Man Mourinho.

I've no doubt in the short term he'll do well. Levy will know exactly what he's going to get, Jose will keep the seat warm for a few years, then they'll bring a manager who is more like Poch in. The gamble is how much mess he makes on his way out, could be a gamble not worth taking in that regard.

Why do so many people think he'll win trophies at Tottenham for goodness sake?!

He hasn't ever won a trophy with a team without either the highest money in the league, or a giant in the league.

Speaking also from a mental health /mindset perspective, I wonder if him being in London with his family will be positive for his tenure.

He also did some work for skysports so perhaps he's built some mutual respect for pundits enough to ignore any criticism respectfully. Or maybe even the same pundits could hold some punches after sharing a studio with him for a couple months.

Imagine complaining about Ed Woodward and not getting what you want, and then going to a club with Daniel Levy... it is kind of ironic though, Jose will either make spurs or break spurs, to be fair to spurs, they are not as much of a rebuild job as United is, Jose is not exactly known for rebuilding teams(mostly destroying them from within) but it will make for entertaining stuff, especially when VAR does not go his way.

He won the Champions League with Porto.

On one hand, this is going to be interesting. On the other, I can't be arsed listening to Jose speak again. It pulls me down.

Don't think he's what Spurs need but he'll do a job for a while.

The real winners in this entire saga are Amazon.

What a season to pick up Spurs for the documentary. Successful or not, Mourinho would make the show a must-watch.
Whaaaat? Not heard about this. Could be great if it's as candid as others have been.

I agree. I think both of those points will help, as I can see some of the pundits not going in on him as hard as they used to.

Porto?

Speaking on his appointment, Jose said: “I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters.

What an absolute W@nker, he said our heritage was regularly being knocked out of the CL. Yet he comes to little old Spurs and says that. Feck off! you'll be out the door in your second season! Mug

It will be interesting to see how he goes over there. Though I can see him having a go at the board for not supporting him in the transfer market fairly soon. Though I'm assuming he wouldn't have signed unless Levy gave him some assurances the money is there.

Christ, mate, this is such a minor point to pick at. You're just coming across as insecure. You followed me around in the summer when I said Maguire was a massive risk to spend £80m on when you had bigger problems in other areas and I think I've turned out to be right about that. Let me have this one, eh?

Imagine sacking the best manager you've had in decades and replace him immediatly with the 2nd most successful manager of this generation.

Spurs have joined the big boys table, It's undeniable now.

At least the PL got more exciting now. Would love a Jose meltdown with Spurs.

Dude, you are the one who replied to my posts and now your posts are pathetic, bringing some irrelevant points. Not sure who how were proven right or how it is even relevant here. And then to call someone as insecure, especially by the guy who read the leaked GOT script as passed it on as his own guess work.

I think 3.5 contract seasons is a bit much. Spurs should had give 1.5 years top, because I know Mourinho wouldn't accept a 6 month contract at this point.

I am still surprised you guys didn't buy a CB.

Could do well in the short term or even build them up well if he wants to hold on to his London based job or a while. He's got a good squad base that suits him and Spurs club will enjoy the high profile nature of him.

Pressure from the fans could be a problem but I think he will do his best to repair his reputation, win a Europa, FA Cup or League Cup and nick some top four spots. I hope I'm wrong but the last chance timing, London home and strong core squad has me worried.

He got slated for that but criticising Spurs heritage will not get him the same flak. They have underachieved for 50 plus years. That’s their heritage

Without a doubt, one of the most bizarre appointments in football history. The players were burnt out by a demanding manager, so they bring in Jose to replace him? The previous manager was frustrated by the lack of transfer activity, so they bring in Jose to replace him?

Going to be absolutely amazing to see how this unfolds. I do actually think he could win them a cup though.
