Jose Mourinho | Spurs manager

At every club he's been at since 2002, Mourinho has won trophies. Will he win one at Spurs?

Wow. The speed at which this happened is stunning. Clearly there were talks behind Poch's back before he was sacked.

Inter as a club underachieved in CL/Europe, they were never favorites to win it. They didn't underachieve based on the quality of the team, they underachieved based on the size of the club.

At not point they were favorites to win, they were underdogs and for the club of their size, they were underachievers.

Which is the entire point that you seem miss. He is literally talking about the grandeur of the clubs, the reason Inter are considered underachievers in CL is because they were seen as one of the clubs supposed to win it.

Not sure if I'm the one missing the point, anyways lets agree to disagree. Had enough posts praising Jose.

He only signed a massive contract with Sky recently to become a pundit. What happens with that now?

I honestly can't think of a worse combination than Spurs and Mourinho,

If he thought United didn't back him in the transfer market, he ain't seen nothing yet.

And if the Spurs board think Poch moaned too much about not getting the players he wanted, they ain't seen nothing yet.

Over the last couple years Spurs have been a great side to watch, they play good attacking football, with a smattering of young English talent, all the stuff fans love, that is all set to disappear.

The only positive I can think of is that it is going to make United v Spurs and Chelsea v Spurs REALLY tasty fixtures. And the North London Derby (which is already the most entertaining derby of the year) is going to be unreal, due to how much bad feeling there is between Jose and Arsenal. So this move benefits Sky Sports, but certainly not Tottenham.

Without a doubt, one of the most bizarre appointments in football history. The players were burnt out by a demanding manager, so they bring in Jose to replace him? The previous manager was frustrated by the lack of transfer activity, so they bring in Jose to replace him?

Going to be absolutely amazing to see how this unfolds. I do actually think he could win them a cup though.
Levy has lost his marbles honestly! But at the same time Jose sure loves his 30+ year olds, so he should feel right at home with this aging squad. He's just said in a statement Spurs have 'great heritage' He totally disregarded Man United's heritage, and we actually have one.

So you are down tooling? You are true a Mourinho follower. :p

I'd say its pretty standard for "working" managers to have a clause inserted when working as pundits stating they are out if a job comes round they want.
(Although it would be great TV if he had to sit there for 5 hours on a sunday in a sulk cos he didn't get a result the day before )

Clubs negotiate players before selling and probably don't communicate to the player that they already have a signing for his place. Why should it happen with managers?

This might turn out be very good signing. Jose wins trophies, even if Spurs win domestic cup it should give them huge lift. Squad need something to celebrate for all the work they have done in last 4-5 years.

He's had almost a full year off which I'm pretty sure is the longest break he's had in his career. Might have been just what he needed to recharge the batteries a bit. I expect it'll still fall apart long-term, but he might do some good things with them in the first season or two.

Probably had a termination clause if anything opened up. Sky wins either way, good to have him in the studio, even better to have him active in the league, and at Spurs ! They are licking their lips at the incomings meltdowns.

Still can't understand how this happened nor believe it. After his recent toxic escapades I thought there would be absolutely no way any club at the top level would want him but looking at Spurs in particular I actually think their squad fits the way Jose wants to play perfectly.

One thing we all know is that it will fall apart sooner or later but what happens before that is tough to predict. I think they'll have a good start under him but once the summer comes and Levy needs to do some spending the toxic shit show will begin. He'll be sacked within a season or two.

Poch had to go, was never Jose's biggest fan TBH, but if he brings us even some success it will be a positive appointment. Will miss Poch however.

Jose said this was the case when he made his first appearance on Sky. That he was still looking for a top job, and that he would only be sticking around in the TV studio for as long as it took for the right managerial opportunity to present itself.

It will be interesting to see how he treats the Premier League pundits now he's worked with many of them. And it will be interesting to see how they treat him when things start going wrong again.

Is winning cups considered as success or finishing top 4 without winning cups will be considered as success?

It strikes me as a very odd appointment.

We all know Jose comes in, successful or not leaves the club after 2-3 years in a bit of a drama one way or another.

Jose proved at UTD his good and bad points, unfortunately his bad points far out weigh the good. 2 trophies = success but he left our squad and club in a worse place than when he came.

What was very evident to me when Jose was our manager was his stubbornness, the modern game has progressed but his style and ideologies has not. His man management is poor, I don't think he ever won over the WHOLE squad, only segments of it.

This is also strikes me as a very odd decision from Spurs, they know what they will get from Jose and he doesn't seem to fit the ambition, style of play etc. I feel they;'ve gone for a "big name" rather than putting the clubs best interest first.

He may have good moments, maybe a cup win. But one thing Jose guarantees is tantrums drama and the sack. Him and Levy will clash.

He's also inherited a disjointed squad where contracts are running down and morale is low. Jose is known for harsh criticisms, and he may upset more players. Spurs wage structure is also poor in relation to big clubs that Jose is used too: He may struggle to attract the calibre of player he wants.

I think Spurs have some amazing players, I just don't think jose is the right fit at all. He was desperate for us to sign Toby and Dier so at least he's got them now IMO

But Mourinho said in 2015 that he could not manage Tottenham because his emotional attachment to Chelsea was so strong.

He had also reached an agreement with Chelsea that he would not manage another English club for two years.

Asked if he was approached in 2007 by Spurs, he said: 'Yes. I couldn't go. I couldn't train in England for two years.'

According to Mourinho, Tottenham tried to offer Chelsea compensation to break the clause preventing him from England working in England but he also said: 'I would not take the job because I love Chelsea supporters too much.'

Now, despite managing Chelsea for a second spell between 2013 and 2015, Mourinho appears to have changed his tune and will begin working at their rivals in north London.

Indeed, he will take charge of Spurs against Chelsea in a Premier League showdown three days before Christmas.

Mourinho won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and three League Cups during his two spells at Chelsea and Tottenham will be hoping he delivers them similar success.

As much as I dislike him and for all his faults, if I were a spurs fan I'd be dead excited right now.

It might not be entertaining football, but mourinho will look to compete more seriously for trophies, you have to think Mourinho as manager will give the players a lift. Also a strong statement of intent on future ambitions (whether Levy will deliver on that intent is a different matter).

Exciting appointment.

Mourinho belittled Utd's history or "heritage" as he liked to say.

Can you imagine the stuff he'll say about Spurs heritage when he starts to have his usual sulky meltdown?

Both, we aren't big enough to survive "competitively" not remaining in the top 4 in the long term, its just the nature of the game right now.

I mean if he doesn't win cups and finish in top 4, will it be considered as success by Spurs fans.

We've been there. Many of us had those thoughts. We know how this plays out.

His success will depend on the spending money he’s given. I don’t think he’ll achieve much with the squad as it is, although they do already have some very good players. At least he doesn’t need to go out and spend £90m on a striker like he did with us.

Dude, you are the one who replied to my posts and now you are coming across as pathetic poster bringing some irrelevant points. Not sure who you were proven right or how it is even relevant here. And then to call someone as insecure, especially by the guy who read the leaked GOT script as passed it on as his own guess work.
Straight to the personal insults!

Have a good day, chum.
