I agree. Kane brings them back to being a major threat in that match. Fine enough margins. Spurs need some fresh ideas though and Jose is not the man for that. He’s going to have a meltdown soon and it will be glorious to watch from afar.
Yeah, agree. It is starting to become not the play style issue itself but the negatives when everyone has felt from that for so long. Eventually it will become a snowball effect and bring everyone there down to a degree, a melt down. Really these stuffs have been repeatedly happened in his every turn from club to club. This time, it’s happening quicker, his first full season.

It's wild how Spurs have skipped past the successful Mourinho two seasons and gone straight to third season Mourinho.

My personal second favourite thing after United's success is Jose Mourinho Struggling.

I was so scared he was going to compete for the title this year but luckily people convinced me that it wouldn't happen at spurs.

Not wild at all when you realize its Spurs after all, the ultimate fail club that turns every thing they touch into an epic fail, managerial appointments included.

He was always massively overrated. In his first stint at Chelsea he had an open chequebook and no FFP, literally the equivelant today of being able to buy De Bruyne, Salah, Lewandowski, Grealish, Rice all in one summer.

Spurs will get rid soon once he starts attacking the board over lack of ambition.
Nah he was great in his day, the game has simply left him behind. Virtually all pre Pep coaches are irrelevant today at the highest level. He had to adapt or die and he's choosing the wrong option and can't seem to see it.

I think he isn’t incapable to evolve, instead, he wanted to be unique and proof his approach still one of the best. But, it has been shown that’s really not the case.
Maybe he can someday change his mind and realize he has to evolve and do some major surgery on his philosophy. However, in this rate, he might lose opportunity to change, because no big club would go for him anymore.

He's made them into such a small time team sitting back and constantly conceding possession. 7 shots to 18/42% possession/2 corners to 7, at home to Chelsea is dreaful.

Last 10 league games, 11 goals and 13 conceded. 9/30 points.

Nah, this is not Spurs related. Mourinho is an out of touch moron these days.

Jose was giving it big licks on the documentary how he had a better squad at Spurs than he did with United.

Way to go!
At the time he said that, November 2019, their squad was certainly better than ours. Miles better. It was a squad which had just made the CL final a few months prior.

Lloris
Aurier Toby Jan Davies
Sissoko Ndombele
Moura Alli Son
Kane

vs.

DDG
AWB Lindelof Maguire Young
Fred Matic (Pogba was injured)
James Lingard Rashford
Martial

The reason our squad is better than theirs now, is because of the obvious recency bias because we’re in 2nd and winning games, and because Ole’s squad building has been better than Mourinho’s. Latter has tried to make his current crop good at defensive football, while former has brought in better players than those at Spurs (Bruno, Cavani, Maguire) and played modern football with them. This is why we’re much better than Spurs atm and why Mourinho is drastically failing at his job. He’s somehow made them worse than the 14th place side under Poch.

Jose said that about Jose's ManUtd squad, not the 2019-20 squad.

I was actually wondering this the other day, of all clubs covid must have been awful for Spurs because so much of their business model must be based around filling out the stadium and managing the massive loan repayments. They hired one of the most expensive managers around, backed him financially and now find themselves exactly where every United and Chelsea fan told them where they would be but haemorrhaging money.

My understanding is they're now over £800m in debt? I know they've probably negotiated a very delayed payment on that and are just paying off interest but it's a huge amount of money. I'm Interested to know how they're faring?

Yeah and they have too many ordinary players who need upgrading if they are to take that one step towards title contenders. So if I were Spurs I would hope pray that Poch makes a huge offer on Alli

Didn't he give it the big one in that Spurs documentary about having a better squad than he did at United?

How's that working out?
To be fair, he's 1000% right. Spurs this season is better than United in 2018.

I'm quite sure that had everyone not been playing behind closed doors, Mou would have been sacked by now.

You can't afford to play the way they do in front of a full stadium and get away with it. They aren't a bad side - hell, I'd say their starting XI and squad are 5th best in the league at worst. But the way they play, it seems their aim is surviving relegation that season

Claude could be talking about Mourinho here.

No I have always liked Jose and will like him a lot more when he is not Spurs manager.
Man, not even up to a season. You were on his side earlier. I don't even blame you. He does that to fans.

I can't believe some in the media tried to compare this Spurs side to the one he had inherited at Inter.

All well and good 'playing for the manager' but if you don't have quality defenders and different attacking options then you are done for.

If he crashes out of Europe and loses the League Cup final then he will be gone. Problem for Levy is Spurs are making no matchday revenue, on top of financing stadium debt. Wouldn't be surprised if Kane gets sold.

Well Spurs fan think they can sack him without any payoff. Well they will believe anything and spin it into positive news.
Remember Glaston spinning 30m fee paid for Sissoko as some master stroke because it was being paid in installments ignoring all the while that most transfer fees are structured that way.

Doesn’t matter what players you give Jose - he seems only able to mould a team now into a defensive, non attacking unit that spirals down and down into tedium.....

posters are right - if this was being served up in front of 60k+ Fans then he would be skating on really thin ice......

looks like the divisions in the dressing room are being formed and after every post match interview that grows more as it’s always someone else’s fault and Jose can’t help but throw someone under the bus.....

can only end one way.....

Can Spurs even afford to sack him?
This is what I'm wondering. Surely they'd have to take a huge hit when they've got a stadium to repay plus the effects of the corona.

Levy and Mourinho might be stuck with each other.... imagine that?:)

Last 10 league games, 11 goals and 13 conceded. 9/30 points.

And playing absolutely dire. A poor excuse for what is supposed to be called football.
He seems to be turning Tottenham from an exciting side that got to the CL final into a boring ambitionless turnoff.
He cannot blame everything on Harry Kane injury while he refuses to use Dele and Bale.

such a strange combination. From day one, it never looked like those two would suit each other.

It’s like when he arrives at a new club like Spurs, players are like, “wow it’s Mourinho, the man the myth the legend, I can’t wait to play for him”. He then has an initial upsurge in performance and results.

But then players gradually get to know him and adapt to his antiquated styles of play and you see the sharp decline and drop off.Mourinho then picks out his superstar player to be the public fall guy for their down fall, in this case it’s Dele Alli.

It amazed me how he got a job at a top club in England after his time with us and at a club that is known for playing an attacking style amazed me even more but as others have said we know how this will end and he will probably pick up a nice little severance pay cheque.

Poor Jose, I saw his post match interview and he looked haggered. What a stark contrast to the suave and sophisticated manager we saw when he first arrived.

I genuinely think the game has moved on and he has no idea how to adapt, much like Arsene Wenger. It's no shame, happens to most managers and he'll still go down as one of the greats. This makes me realise just how special SAF was, top of his game for 20+ years! God I miss that man!

Anyway, back to Jose, I think he should take a stab at the Portugal job then for his own sake, then retire and enjoy time with his family with all the money he's made from being sacked multiple times. I remember when he was a sky pundit he said he's happier when he's on the pitch but Jose old pal you don't look happy anymore out there! Time to rest.

Mourinho often gets called pragmatic yet the definition of pragmatism is ‘dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.’

The way Mourinho looks at football teams is not sensible and realistic. He’s ingrained in his negative football philosophy. All of these big games he parks the bus, when he might genuinely catch a team off guard if he went all out attack. It’s predictable. Someone like Ferguson was pragmatic, he could play attack or defence equally well. And it’s funny for a man considered an idealist, Pep has shown he can be pragmatic this season, by completely shutting down other teams and having the best defence in the league.

Also a pragmatist plays the best team available to him at any point, not just randomly alienate one important player, like he is doing with Dele Alli and what he used to do with Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.

Martial is playing badly so Solskjaer brings him on at half time against Southampton in a dead rubber game to get his confidence up, and he scored two goals and won a penalty. That’s good man management. Mourinho would have criticised Martial in the media, then said it was his brain that scored the goals.

Tottenham were boring under Poch at the end too.

I always admired Jose of yesteryears. He was cranky, stubborn and feisty even then but that nature formed a nice ring around the success he brought. But over the years he became more cranky, more stubborn and more pugnacious. Without trophies this nature is now annoying and divisive. It seems he is slowly losing his mind and alienating people around him.

All that he has now is trophies he won which stay in his head rent free 24/7 and will until his last breathe.

Probably he should now focus on punditry or find a national team to coach where there is less pressure.

Just a matter of time. He'll make it to summer, unless things go really crazy, but I don't see him staying beyond. Levy obviously likes him, but lets be honest, Levy is hardly a sentimental kind of guy. If they fail to make Europe - which seems likely at this point in time - then he's gone for sure.

And then I think that's that for Mourinho at the highest level. Spurs was a gamble because it was the first time he'd taken a club that wasn't already a proven winner since Chelsea first time round, and that was with the backing of an open chequebook in pre-FFP days, so it was kind of different then. He needed to make it work to get a future job at one of the giants, but its gone totally wrong for him.

He'll always be able to get a job with a mid-table club of course, but not one of the big clubs. He might get a job at Inter again, that's probably the only destination. But the idea of him getting a job at PSG, Juve, or back at Real, is laughable. He should probably take a job as a pundit (which he's actually very good at) and keep taking the cheques for TV commercials.

Don't recall Poch performances ever being as disjointed, lethargic and lost as the current Spurs ones weve seen of late.

That's not what I said to be fair. I was just saying he didn't take over an exciting team, they were boring at the end of Poch's tenure.

Yeah, I had that in my mind when I posted that :D

So many Spurs fans on here argued with me their second 11 is better than ours

Talking about the best strike force in Son Kane Bale :lol:

Forget Spurs fans, caftards were convinced that they were winning the league during that one game they lead 3-0 in (and drew). It was never going to happen.
