Yes, probably would have.
Still, hiring him back then would've made far more sense than hiring him when we did (and it would've been in line with what United - Gill, specifically - had said about post-Fergie plans). The state of the competition back then, and the nature of the squad, might have made it plausible (enough) for him to actually win a league title before it all went to hell.
