Big call this. If we win, all good. If we lose, he has the horrible choice of either sticking to his guns in the return leg in the hope that he can prove his point without taking on any water, or bringing back Pogba, who either is labelled his saviour if we win or gets hammered if we lose.

Will PSG take him after Madrid knock them out? I sure hope it happens before we lose Pogba and Martial.

I'm not against managers dropping players, even the star players, but Jose is starting a lot of drama here. Pogba could have played better in those 2 games, but for Mourinho to turn into such a big story is unnecessary, especially when we're coming into such an important stage of the season.

Hopefully it fires Pogba up, but it could go the other way. If we lose then the level of the drama will be up a level.

I'm finally starting to realise why Jose has had so many issues with his former clubs.

 We're sacking Mourinho because Pogba's on the bench? Some people love to write obituaries.

Pogba returned from a serious injury and hasn't had a dip in form until now. No point in throwing him in tonight to make him the sacrificial lamb if we don't win.

Does anyone want to believe the narrative that Jose's dropping Pogba to protect him from the media spotlight of United's £90m star midfielder playing shit? Or are we all going down the route of Jose's gone full bat shit and is doing his best to marginalise Pogba? People certainly do love creating drama.

Just Mourinho being Mourinho I see. I don't think anyone should be surprised he consistently falls out with the big names and the board of the team he's managing hopefully this doesn't result in an embarrassing result to a team we should comfortably beat.

Tbf Rooney was dropped initially in 2008-09 season, he came on from bench and scored against Bolton I think. It was sort of big news

But don't remember SAF dropping big players for bigger games.
Well, it was about big games originally, not a home league game against Bolton. We can find plenty of games during Rooney's 13-year stint here which he didn't start - in this particular case, Tévez started instead of him after Rooney being preferred for most of the season until that point.

But in the big games, Fergie pretty much always played Rooney if he was available. Very, very few exceptions.

3-man midfield and no Pogba...teasing Paul like that..the Sack-watch Should be on!!!Pogba better be no fully-fit or this is unacceptable

He won't last long here.

This reminds me of his Madrid stint. Going after your best players never ends well. Managers are more easier to replace than world record signings.

I gave him 3 years here, 4 at the most but yeah you can't teach an old dog new tricks and he's always left clubs in bad terms I don't see why it would be different here. Pogba has been shite recently though so hopefully it has a positive effect

That's one from his final season. Around the time Rooney handed in a bloody transfer request.

Not exactly the greatest example to back up your point that dropping Pogba is nothing special.

(also you said it happened many times)

He benched him against Liverpool and Everton in this prime before transfer request because he tries too hard or something

Hope Jose enjoys Paris if we mess this up. Potential Portuguese fraud.

This whole Pogba thing largely depends on if we get a good result or not. There is merit to the argument that Mourinho should be getting more out of Paul, and that Paul also needs to have a better application and awareness for the defensive side.

Well his gameplan appears to be...give up loads and loads of corners, and not bother attacking, or really passing the ball.

We're terrible again. Almost as bad as the LVG era, even though we have much, much better players.

Should thank his lucky stars he has been able to walk into a club with a goalkeeper like David De Gea.

Absolutely tactically hopeless again tonight.

What’s the game plan?

No counter. No pressing. Nobody within 30 yards of Lukaku. Allowing crosses in all game. We are horrendously shite.

Is it really difficult for him to see the low quality football he is serving?

Does anyone honestly believe he's getting all he can out of this squad? Martial, Lukaku, Sanchez, Pogba, Matic...and this is what we get?

And before the obvious 'Fergie was always dire away in the CL' comparisons, look around other results, and also the relative merits of our squad vs. Sevilla.

He should be embarrassed. There's no clear gameplan, players look unmotivated and off the pace and we should really be at least a couple goals down.

Another 45 minutes of boring dross. Starting to get really, really bored of it tbh.

Looks well beat on the bench. I don't know what's going on with him, but he has become so passive. Just looks hopeless on the bench, it's bizarre

Why did we extend his contract again? He has been backed to the hilt in the transfer market and serves up this shit.

If the performances don't improve by the end of the season then I couldn't care less if we sack him. Obviously won't happen though, so I guess we're stuck with this dross for the forseeable future.

I can't take this shit anymore. He either changes drastically or has to go. Don't give a feck if we give the job to Giggs, Neville or whoever.

Guys.... why are we surprised at this? This is a Mourinho side and this is how he plays away in the CL. Wait for full time at least.

No of course he isn't mate. We're far worse than the sum of our parts.

It's alarming that after all this time there is still no recoginszable style to our game, no plan to our attacks and often enough complete chaos defensively that only isn't as obvious because de Gea is one of the best three GKs in the world right now and keeps bailing us out. Even more worrysome for me is that we seem to have gone backwards in terms of performances compared to large portions of the first half of the season. Not good at all.

I'm pro Jose and have been for the longest time.

But i don't think the football he has us playing is United worthy. We are so cowardly.

And before people bring up that it is an away game, they should remember how we last played at home against a Spanish side.

We're not even defensive, we're just shite.

We really àre, I don't expect to win every game or be guaranteed trophies, but the least the manager of this club needs to do is play entertaining football.

Still don't look like a team after one and a half season.

I fear Chelsea will kick our arses on Sunday. We look really awful. Feck knows what the problem is but Jose needs to get a grip.

No.
There's a difference between defensive/organised and what we are looking at.
We are basically waiting to concede.
