I thought about making a new thread about it but I can put it here.
There's something different with us this year. We're scoring for fun, scoring early goals, scoring 1st half goals. Stuff we only dreamed about last year. I mean winning 4:0 has become a norm this year and last year we couldn't manage more than 1 in most of our games.

It seems like confidence of the team is a lot better, they're more assured of themselves. Of course Matić and Lukaku help a lot, hell of a lot and they're brilliant signings. Matić gives us stability in the midfield and with Lukaku you always know he'll score or be close to scoring.

It seems like Jose is different too. He's not in such a bad mood like last year (and it was understandable why he was like that), he looks a lot more relaxed and self confident too.

I'm not saying this will definitely be a typical Jose's 2nd season, it's still early days, we needed one more offensive player and LB might be a problem in the near future, but things are bright and sunny and I'm enjoying this season.

Really happy with this guy.

Off topic but I didn't know where else to post this. Jose attended celebration in his honour in Portugal as hometown named road after him. Heres an extract:

Jose: Setubal is still the only city where I feel like myself, Ze, Ze Mario. Where people treat me normally and make me feel good. I am pure Setubal, with all the qualities and defects. This honour moves me. I come to Setubal because I love Setubal, because my friends call me Ze (Mourinho's Portuguese nickname is Ze Mario) and they leave this "Special One" bulls***.

I wonder if we can include the nickname he is so fond of into his chant. You know, to make him feel home and all.

Must admit for the first time during his tenure I am starting to doubt him a bit.

Will give him the benefit of the doubt for the moment though due to internationals (we always suck after them), the occasion and the absolute lacklustre performance of our players.

If we play like this against the rest of the top 6 then I will truly be a non-believer.

That was so very ugly. It was not football what we're playing and yes Fergie was pragmatic in those games in his latter years but at least you had a feeling we could score.

With Mourinho's set up you just don't.

Positives: Not dropping stupid points against crap teams, largely playing well against crap teams.

Negatives: Seen almost no improvement in fluidity the second we play a decent side. Southampton utterly bossed us for 2/3rds of that match. Liverpool made us look like a pub team. Such a huge contrast between watching us versus City, Chelsea and Spurs in the big matches.

Still not a huge fan of him, really think with these players we should look a decent side against anyone.

ridiculous team selection!! You know when you see darmian as left back and Young as your winger we are never going to be attacking.

Pathetic today.

Don't know how much blame he deserves tbh. We set up a team to attack to start with, but we had horrid performances throughout the middle of the pitch. Realising that we went a bit more pragmatic and played for the draw.

I'm not particularly happy with Young at RW (although I can see the logic there), and he should have known that we'd get that sort of performance from Mhkitaryan, but he was pretty limited in his squad options by injury.

Jose just can't change his ways in away games against the big sides. It is just very difficult to accept this.

Set up not to lose and achieved that. I fully expected this performance before the game but I hoped we'd have more quality on the ball when we had it. Still work to do IMO and it starts with upgrading Mikhi.

I was fine with a draw and I expected pragmatism (unlike some delusional folks who thought he would 'change' his ways).

That said, we were clearly a better side under Van Gaal in these games and you're just flat out lying to deny it. It's fecking awful viewing. I mean, that was why we sacked the dutchman wasn't it? You lot were bored or something?

This isn't pragmatism by the way. United survived today and were extremely lucky to get a point. Thank feck it's over anyway.

I have not seen one game yet against the top six that was actually good viewing from a United perspective.

The tactics were negative but it's not mourinho' fault none of our players could cope with being pressed, Liverpool were the better team.

We will, no doubt, especially away from home this is how we play against the top 6. At home we play better and more offensive, but that is to be expected if you compare it to our away games against the top 6. It doesnt get more defensive, boring and negative

I think he would have set the game up differently if Pogba had been fit and if it wasn't the first game, at noon, after international break. Some players were visibly tired in both sides. Liverpool subbed off Coutinho and Salah which is normally not something you do when you want to win but frankly they had long travels.

Had it been a Sunday match it would have been a better game imo.

Chelsea at home, Spurs at home were both pretty good.

Really felt he would have shown a lot more ambition today. It’s a poor Liverpool side lacking in confidence and an extremely weak back 4

Ffs mourinho

Yeah, standard Mourinho away performance against a top 6 side. Would have preferred Mata over Mkhitaryan for this game though.

Thank you!!

I knew people would come in here and just slate Jose when in reality he is not responsible for the awful passing and decision making by the players.

Agree with this. He's a passenger against good teams. Full-backs are mediocre as well

Everyone, bar de Gea, was either terrible or below par - that comes down to the manager and his coaches. We don't have to dominate them but show something! Having Martial and Young as deep as they were meant we couldn't counter attack for crud. It was so, so cowardly.

You honestly think the team was set up to attack?

I get the whole 1 point at anfield is worth 3 points thing; but Liverpool are simply not good defensively and also had their best front forward out of the team.

There's a difference between earning a point and playing for a point & that's why I am a tad disappointed.

We were far more negative last season, our midfield was completely rubbish today. Couldn't string few forward passes between them and almost lost all the second balls meaning chasing shadows all match.

Our record in PL after International break under Mourinho is very poor, yet to win a SINGLE game coming off an Int'l break so considering the injuries, situation of players sloppiness and the match being at Anfield point is good enough.

Thing is, if we play to draw against City, Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea away and we don't win any of these games, I can't see us winning the league.

Also among all the bashing happening right now, we need to give credit for the players for their immense discipline and concentration levels. Not easy setting up like this and when you think about it, Liverpool created two good chances.

Chelsea is a genuine mistake by me (forgetting that). Spurs at home was pretty unremarkable - don't know why it's brought up.
I remember enjoying the game, probably because it was an effective performance over the 2nd best team in the country at the time. Especially in hindsight, as they went on to win their following 6 Premier League games.

To be fair it's a personal opinion, but I seldom (if ever) feel underwhelmed when we win. The result is personally far more important than the performance, for me.

I'm fine with Jose's approach to today's game.

Anfield is a tough place to go, illustrated by the fact we have played well there three times in the last 10-15 years (2004/05, 2007/08, 2014/15). Expecting us to go to Liverpool and dominate is silly. Usually we play garbage but nick a goal or two. Sadly our attacking play today was a bit bitty. Not the end of the world.

Beat all the small teams, avoid losing to the big teams, and we'll be there or thereabouts in May.

If we win the title by a point is anyone going to be crying about today's performance..?

Huh, that's a good stat. Kind of unacceptable, but interesting.

Pathetic peformance. People will justify it by trying to blame individual players but it's been proven by Van Gaal that you can go to Anfield (with worse players) and play your own game.

We've got a point, great, but we aren't going to win the league title if we can't beat our rivals - especially rivals that have only won once in eight games.

You can actually do it. Win the league without beating your rivals.

For the record, I don't expect United to win the league and haven't pre-season.

I expect better performances - even if it's a pragmatic approach. That's not pragmatism what we saw today. It was awful football all round with a good dose of luck and an outstanding goalkeeper.
