He got it so wrong tonight and he didn't even bother to change it. We're so wide open in the middle.

Prefer playing an extra midfielder in big games than with lingard
Think this one is on him so far. Can’t et a foothold in middle

Incredibly common these performances in the big clashes. So disappointing.

His team talks must be shite prior to these.

He's cost us today with that idiotic selection. Going away to Spurs with only Matic to help defense is suicidal.

He gets criticised when he parks the bus. But when you see how shite our defence is against good teams you understand why he does it. Right now we'd all take a boring 0-0 like we got at Anfield.

It's seems like parking the bus is only tactic he knows.

Got it wrong thus far, he may make changes that improve our performance but the damage is probably done.

That's no excuse for us looking completely clueless going forward, at times this team looks amateurish.

2nd time under Mourinho in a game, we've conceded so early on, but also looked like a team playing together in the 1st time. Like how?

And why are we so bad at aerial duels and set pieces?

Our big game performances are really poor. Hopefully he does something in the 2nd half to change it up.

Kane ran straight up in between Jones & Young at kick off. They had our number

He's put our two centre backs up against arguably the best striker in the world with basically no protection

Sanchez, Martial and Lukaku in particular are pretty direct and are likely to give possession away a lot, and Mou is using them in a 4-1-5 formation?

It took 11 seconds to be found out but he's changed nothing in the following 45 minutes...

Utterly bizarre.

He can’t win with you lot.

He sets the team up to play attacking football, gets let down by two ridiculous brain farts and everyone moans that at 2-0 down we’re trying to go for it and get back into it.

So strange to see posts like this. How isn't it obvious that Pogba doesn't work in 2-man against the better teams? That Martial is not that good on the right? That Alexis shouldn't have been on the left.

Although we wanted to see AM and AS both start, this probably wasn't the best game to try that tactic. Should've gone with Herrera instead of Tony and played a 4-3-3.

Lots of bad decisions today:
  • Young over Shaw?
  • Two man midfield.
  • Martial wide right rather than two players more experienced in that role (who are actually on the pitch)
He can scream at the players for the defensive errors. Would Shaw have lost Eriksen like Young for the 1st goal though? Would they have got in down the left for the 2nd if Shaw’s there?

I love Jose but this is poor from him.

There's more to attacking football than settings 4-2-3-1, you need some actually you know coaching. Our team looks absolutely clueless going forward .

You have 0 base to say how he's set us up. We have no idea how we would play since we had to go attacking after 10.4s. Also, having Young doesn't mean attacking, having Pogba play where he does is not attacking. Putting attackers as defenders doesn't mean we are set up to attack. Some posts today really surprise me.

We could have played attacking football and had a solid midfield. Spurs are cutting through us with ease and we hardly looked like scoring aside from the first ten minutes.

Got it very wrong today, tactically very naive, the approach was far too aggressive for such a difficult away game. However, I am very surprised to see the negative reactions in this thread after so many people praised the line-up and demanded more attacking intent after the last big games.

I also think he should have started Rojo today who played very well against Kane last year and, for sure, wouldn´t have been bullied like Jones and Smalling.

How can he not see that Martial is lost on the right, that 4-2-3-1 is not for us and that Young offensive contribution can't outweigh his defensive limitations.

Except people on here have been saying for ages that his midfield leaves us far too open. Giving up control in midfield in favour of extra attacking minded players is not an earnest attempt at attacking football. It's sheer stupidity.

You can play 4-3-3 and still attack. He left our defense exposed

You would think the game against Everton (we played well with a 3) would have dictated selection.

Pogba is too deep and Lingard is no central midfielder.

People want to see attacking football but not at the expense of common sense.

I love how most the posters here post with the benefit of hindsight.

I know some posters said the midfield looked light weight but genuinely think this shocking performance is as much to do with individuals errors making our team morale down as anything else.

I would say naivety.

You are no team that appeals to neutrals at the moment, I am afraid.
The football is uninspired and some of your players are trying to rough up their opponents.
Not impressed at all. A shame because you have a bunch of very talented footballers.

Got this badly wrong. Far too open and ambitious. This is similar to what happened at Arsenal except DDG hasn't saved us.

I agree the over the top criticism when we go conservative away from home is tedious.

But today's he's fluffed his team selection and tactics. Should've gone with another midfielder like vs Everton away and hit a Spurs side playing a high line on the counter.

Also: It's entirely possible to play another midfielder, go 4-3-3 and still take the game to them I.E. Everton away.

His matches against the top six collectively are really disappointing so far. That's my angle.

Bread and butter matches are fine in general, more so this season but it's really bizarre how crap we are in these big games.

Got his bearings horribly wrong in the first half. Common Jose, sort it out in the second and give us something to cheer for.

Again the wrong setup v top 6 teams.. And why did he move in form Martial out to the right? You just dont mess around with things that work.. PS Jose play three in the midfield at least v the good teams.. Shambolic..

He'll be laughed at and criticed. This time it will be fully deserved
I think most times he's deserved. I have no confidence in him whatsoever when he continues to make absurd decisions.

Matic alone in midfield, Martial on the right, playing both Smalling and Jones against a high pressing team... I just don't know why he'd think this would work.

These performances happen 9 times out of 10 against the big teams, though. His coaching plays the biggest part.

What he needs are funds and nothing more. 2 CM's and and an actual left back and right back.

Sanchez was just a player swap and shouldn't be treated as some kind of giant signing.

He's already spent a ton of money while here. Naturally he needs to keep spending - any top team will tend to update their squad on a regular basis, but we should be looking to sign players wisely and for decent amounts instead of just splashing the cash. The Sanchez deal's a perfect example of good business...a major upgrade to the team at little cost.

His tactics were wrong. Needs to give up on 4-2-3-1 in the big games and start playing an actual LB in that position.

Not sure what happened with Fellaini.
