Very underrated defender. Even made that clown Lovren look good when they played together.
Sign him up Jose.
Sign him up Jose.
Jose seem to like Blind, who in turn has repaid the faith showed in him.Makes sense. As long as it means Rojo leaving and not Blind. CBJ and Blind can cover Shaw, even Darmian too.
Thats whyWhat's the point? We've got Bailly, Blind, Smalling, Jones, TFM
Its Jones that should be trembling at this. Rojo might be saved by versatility.
Jones is versatile. He can have all sorts of injuries.
We laugh, but he was out for months with shingles just last season.
Sell Darmian and Rojo. Sign Fonte. Then we have two decent defenses..
1 - Valencia Smalling Bailly Shaw
2- Mensah Fonte Jones Blind
If we sign him then we absolutely need to get rid off one other defender otherwise we'll end up having too many average defenders.

I think he's a great player, but I would rather give time to TFM or Tuanzebe. Blind, Smalling, Bailly, Rojo, Jones plus those two - surely someone other than just Smalling/Blind will be able to play well for most of the season.
I think Southampton will happily take Jones for Fonte and be better off too.
With Europa League commitments, Bailly being young and raw, Jones (and thankfully to a lesser extent Smalling) being prone to injury and Blind not quite good enough to nail down a starting spot I reckon Fonte could have plenty of game time.I like him, and yeah for that price, great backup option.
But it seems to me like an awful move for him, going from a place where he's a regular starter to just a backup option who never plays... unless he thinks he can get in front of Bailly?
Fonte is much better than Rojo and Jones, and a very good defender in his own right.Blind is solid against teams who play the ball on the ground, he reads the game so well and intercepts a hell of a lot and tackles good. And at least with Bailly there as well - he has the pace to get in behind if someone beats Blind for pace. It's as soon as the ball is lobbed in the air Blind struggles.
Fonte would be decent for rotation and experience. Jones cant get a run in the team as he walks into every object going, and Rojo is just not to the level needed.

He was good yesterday, but not that good.Fonte is much better than Rojo and Jones, and a very good defender in his own right.
Four CB's of Blind, Fonte, Blind and Bailly are a formidable team.

Its a pay day, a chance at silverware and being able to say he played for United.

this is what happens in a squad, when the first choice is injured there is an obvious drop in quality hence the term first choice. What you are suggesting is some Utopian dispensation where you replace Xavi with Scholes, it has never happened over the short to medium term because you can't keep both players happy when they are fit. And how much of a drop in quality is Rashford to Martial? So you have mentioned inferior players in all the positions. Martial is our best LW and replacing him with Rashford, Lingard means there is drop in quality. Ibra is by far our best CF, replacing him with Rooney is again drop in quality. If Martial replaces Ibra then left wing is not very good. Similarly Blind, Smalling and Bailly are our best CBs. If they are injured or unavailable then there will be drop in quality.
Smalling, Bailly, Blind, Jones and Rojo are more than enough for a CB position. Unless we sell 2 and buy Fonte it doesn't make sense to have so many CBs. Also Jose has a good record when it comes to injuries to his players.

These two are unreliable from a quality (Rojo) and fitness (Jones) perspective so there is need for a more dependable player especially as I suspect that Mourinho will use two different elevens for the PL and Europa.
If we sell Jones and Rojo? Yes signing Fonte makes sense. If not then it's too many players for CB position.
Anyone apart from baldy reporting this?
Lookig at both players objectively, yes, we have to sell them otherwise the drop in quality you were on about becomes more pronounced if we ever have to play without Bailly and Smalling. If we sell Jones and Rojo? Yes signing Fonte makes sense. If not then it's too many players for CB position.
Espn and pilip de brun
Hey, I'm sure Danny can do a better job than Jones and Rojo.He was good yesterday, but not that good.
