In the case of Depay he's only 20 and in the system the Dutch were playing it was hard for him to get in as he's not really a wingback and he isn't going to displace Robben or RvP up top.

From the little I've seen and read I'd much prefer to play Rothwell or Pearson.
If we could get him for around ten million I would rather have him in the squad at the expense of the mope headed bean pole that Moyes saddled us with. You know that at worst he can give you a decent midfield performance and at best he's got the talent and skill set to develop into a very good to top class central midfield player, can't really go wrong with him as a squad option .

Played quite well yesterday. Looked a good long passer. Maybe a team that needs a long-term 8 who can pass to play with their holder should sign him. Wolfsburg could pair him with Luiz Gustavo with De Bruyne in front. Everton could field Clasie-McCarthy with Barkley in front and ease Clasie into the Prem by having Barry start most games next season. Newcastle could use a Cabaye replacement.
If we sign him, I would think the idea would be as Carrick's backup with Fellaini going out, and then we'd sign a big CM next summer or in January (Strootman).

Why go for Clasie? He's nothing special and not good enough for a very average Dutch team, who missed a good box to box midfielder to compliment de Jong and Sneijder. If he was not considered good enough to do this for Holland by LvG I cannot see him doing it for us. We should give Pearson and Rothwell chances next year. Until we see them in the PL we will never know if they are good enough. In Holland young players are given more chances as there is not the sort of money and hence the pressure as in the PL. This is why Ajax and Feyenoord have been giving the youngsters more playing time. Vitesse have not been doing this as they get all the Chelsae left overs.
He was good yesterday but tbf he looked good because players around him for Holland were soo shit its unbelievable, we had Kuyt, Wijnaldum or whatever his name is, Blind, Janmaat all playing like there was a competition between them who could be worse, and then players like Sneijdar and Rvp were simple not at the races yesterday, so it was more down to how other players were soo shit then him being being exceptional or something but he's a solid player had a good game.
He's no Cleverley, tried to pass the ball forward at every opportunity.
Looked like he has the eye for a good pass from the little I have seen of him in the last game. But I don't feel he is the player we currently need. Atm it's about adding genuine quality to the team in order to close the gap towards the other big teams in Europe and in the PL.
I'd look elsewhere, personally, just saying that if Fellaini and Anderson leave, we desperately need at least one CM signing, even if one of Rothwell or Pearson get promoted.
Clasie can pass a bit at least. He wouldn't be my first or even fifth choice, but I don't think it's inconceivable, though I agree that his failure to appear until the semis with De Guzman and Winaldum given chances instead of him suggesting LVG is no great fan.
But historically, Van Gaal has signed players he's at least somewhat familiar with in large numbers. Hopefully for us that means some Bundesliga talent as his years at Munich are not so far in the past, some WC opponents he was impressed with such as Vidal, Di Maria, Perez, Koke (didn't actually play against the Dutch) or Aranguiz. or some talented teammates of Dutch players he monitored this year, like Pjanic, Goretzka, Neustader (would need to see more of him as I haven't noticed his passing when seeing them play, but a 26 year old DM with some power and size could help us).
It is not that I am saying we don't need someone, but I think we should go for someone experienced ( my prferfernce is Gustavo as i don't think we will get Vidal) who will be the first choice but we could introduce Pearson and Rothwell as substitutes and given the odd full game. I would rather that than they go on loan to a championship team and play kick and run
If we were to let Cleverly/Anderson go, I wouldn't be adverse to having this guy come in to potentially break through the ranks. Obviously not as our only other midfield signing
Just because he didn't play before in the World Cup doesn't 'degrade' him as a player in my eyes, LVG brought him on at the semi-finals so I imagine there's some degree of trust. Would not be adverse to him replacing Anderson in the squad.
Good player, can certainly pass it and is good on the ball. He's no cleverley as he actually looks to build attacks rather than pass the ball to the closest man. His problem is that he's a defensive liability. Doesn't understand the game just yet in that aspect.
If we can get him cheap he would be excellent squad depth to have and could work really well with Herrera.
I think the main concern would be that LVG doesn't seem to rate him very highly and even if we did sign him, that doesn't mean he'd be picked to play over the other players

Who else was he going to bring in? Nigel de Jong couldn't play a full game, Leroy Fer was injured, Blind took over Martins Indi's spot in central defense after he went off injured, so Clasie was the only defensive midfielder left.
I've only ever seen him in that sub appearance against Argentina but he looked calm and composed on the ball and made some lovely passes, positive player too.

Worst Dutch CM I have ever seen. The Anti-seedorf. I suspect he really isn't a CM but was "Kuyted" into the position due to Sneijder & Clasie the only other options, and himbeing older than Clasie.

Not for me. I know this is a slightly lazy comparison but he would just seem like a Dutch Cleverley - an OK player but not really good enough to really improve the first team and with the potential to develop, except that he's not actually that young.
He passes forwards alot more than cleverley thats a lazy comparison. We are a club that trusts and brings on younger players. Now it seems all fans want is a first 11 of world class players in their prime. Shame.

Not really, there's just a difference in signing a young player who's good enough and one who's done nothing to prove he is. Clasie wasn't even Feyenoord's stand out midfielder last season and wouldn't have made the Dutch squad if it wasn't for injuries to other people.
Think everyone is more than happy to go with young players when they've shown something of note to suggest they'd be good enough, not average 23 year olds.

No idea why we should be in for him. Cleverley will come good, I really believe that. I actually would not be opposed to signing him if Cleverley didn't exist.
Who knows. My last remaining hope is if LvG helps him develop into a better player. Wouldn't want to see him sold though, he's not reached that low, unlike Young who should be axed immediately as does Anderson
