Jordy Clasie

No, no they wouldn't.
Fair enough.

Shelvey would at least offer a degree of goal threat; De Guzman is at around Cleverley's level, but can carry the ball and isn't scared to take any responsibility; and I think Leon Britton's a pretty well-rounded player with a good passing range.
Ki isn't much special but he'd improve us if he joined. Very inconsistent though.

Would any look out of place though?

Yes as some of our current midfielders look out of place and ours are already better. Carrick was probably the best CM in the league in 2012-13, one poor season in an atrocious team set-up to get the worst out of him doesn't make him worse than all of Swansea's midfield or any of them for that matter. We all hate Fellaini, so do I, and maybe he is best further up the field but he is well capable of playing an 8 role and is highly rated by the Belgian manager. Cleverley would be great in the Swansea set-up and that is why Roberto Martinez rates him so highly and wants him at Everton. Our midfielders may not be top 4 or title challenge material but saying they are worse or even on the level of all of Swansea's midfield is just pure bullshit.

Carrick fair enough, he was nominated for Player of the Year only the season before last - I would take De Guzman over the rest though. But anyway Clasie, as someone said above I think we can almost rule this one out if LVG prefers De Guzman to him.

One thing to prefer the more experienced De Guzman (both in La Liga - so against Spanish midfield pressing and passing - and in general) to start against Spain, but he brought in Winaldum to play CM for the last 30 when the game was not yet over. A tiny number 10 instead of Clasie! Unless Clasie was carrying some injury today, I would now be shocked if LVG went for him.

[El Confidencial] Louis Van Gaal is very close to sign the Dutch 'Xavi' Clasie, Clasie wants also the move and likes to play under Van Gaal.

And, yet, Van Gaal doesn't trust the Dutch Xavi to play ahead of De Guzman? Seems a bit strange this.

Clasie is average, in U21 Van Ginkel who is an AM took his place as CM, every decent players have been playing instead of him when it was possible.

Like how a 21 year Strootman was the man in the last Euro's!! Played no games!!

I wish people would actually make judgement when they know a player rather than just assumptions.

That wasn't under Van Gaal, but yeah, your point still makes sense.

I don't think (from what I've seen) he's a starter in midfield for a team with serious ambition of winning domestic and European titles. But who knows? Nobody knows what system Van Gaal has in mind, and maybe despite not being the best midfielder around, he'd still be perfect.

Who says we'd be buying him because he's ready?

If we are interested in buying him it's probably because LVG wants to nurture and develop his talent for the future.

Same goes for any of the Dutch kids tbh

I think that was Van Gaals only mistake. De Guzman looked out of his depth. Clasie is a class above.

Lol that's ridiculous. Clasie is not better than De Guzman, that is why De Guzman played over him. Wijnaldum played CM for PSV this season before he got injured and looked better than Clasie during the preparation for Brazil.

But oviously that is all a mistake by Van Gaal and surely you are right, we would have been even better with Clasie who suddenly is a class above De Guzman.

classie is different from de guzman. Classie would be more of a ball retention kind of player and wouldnt have the energy that de guzman has

He definitely looked good yesterday. Decent composure on the ball and spreads the play well. It was even better considering it was his first game of the world cup

I know it would have been a risk with such a young player but I bet he'd hit a good penalty with the way he strikes the ball.

Looked really good when he came on yesterday, on the big stage. Kept it simple hardly lost possession and was in the right place to break up play. With the hype around him he looks a player. Not ready but definite potential

I read somewhere that Van Gaal said a couple of players were not willing to take penalties. Maybe he was one of them.

Why should he....he's a kid and with the number of experienced players out there its pretty disgraceful to turn to a kid to take the first pen in a semi final!

Van Gaal said 2 of them were not willing to take first penalty. Not that they weren't willing to take them at all.

Could be anyone really.

for some reason i kept catching feyenoord games a few years back and he always looked a cut above the rest of his team and from last nights games seems like he has continued to progress, decent Defensive midfielder who are comfortable on the ball, arnt exacly in abundance so he got a bright future ahead of him.

He's wasn't even Feyenoord's stand out midfielder last season. He's really not that good at all, wouldn't be in the Dutch squad if it wasn't for injuries so it's highly unlikely we'll see him at United any time soon.

Not really Robben and Sneijder would most likely be first up. He said refused to go first. Not refuse to take one.

I think he's a good player. If we sold Fellaini and someone like Clasie, who's good on the ball, with a bright future replaced him, I wouldn't be overly upset.

Is it just lazy journalism to cite various Netherlands players as transfer targets?

The fact that he LVG doesn't rate him enough to start for the Netherlands makes me wonder whether he'll be good enough to start for us. We don't need another okay midfielder, we already have too many of those.

The fact he has only made one substitute appearance in 6 games and LvG prefers De Guzman, Wijnaldum and De Jong over him should be enough to tell you we wont be buying him.

Based on yesterday he's much better than wijnaldum who didn't seem to be able to control a remote much less a ball - he was so one-footed it was a travesty! He looked worse than even Valencia has in the middle for Ecuador.

Or Carvalho by that logic....maybe shouldnt have bought Mata either as he didnt get a look into an average team....should sell rafael too

It's different. Van Gaal is the manager of United too. If he prefers Wijnaldum, De Guzman etc to Clasie I doubt he'll bring him in.

Attempt at sarcasm noted, but the big difference is that the manager not picking him for Holland is the same manager that will be managing us this season, the others were under different managers, nice try though.

True, though Classie plays deeper than Wijnaldum or De Guzman and De Jong had that slot in a different sort of more defensive role.

Was surprised he didn't start against Costa Rica though.

I guess it could be because he is young as well, not because LVG doesn't rate him as such plus Clasie has a problem of getting exhausted around the 65- 70 minute mark from what i've heard/seen similar to Anderson.

Don't think we'll be signing him right now anyway, or any top club will but he has talent and is one to just keep a eye on. Nothing more at this stage.

I agree with you that we won't buy him right now, but not sure i buy this in the absolute sense.

For example if LVG was England manager very understandable if he started Baines/Cole for England matches but still bought Shaw. Or started Henderson and Bought Wilshere/Barkley in a imaginative scenario.

It is very possible that LVG rates a Kongolo or Veltman type as future stars and we could buy them. Or a Depay who barely started or Tony Vilhena who didn't even make the squad right now. Who knows but yeah, right now LVG doesn't think Clasie is ready. Not that he doesn't have talent to be a very good player.
