Jordan Henderson | New Athletic Interview: I strongly believe that me playing in Saudi Arabia is a positive thing

His best season came when he was playing in front of both Lucas and Allen, and had one Suarez banging them in.

Ever since hes been pulled back to play deeper which highlights how average he is. Unless he has a free role he looks bad, hell even in a "free role" hes still bad. In short, playing him behind a striker is his preferred position but England have better players there. Playing him deeper doesnt give England any control in the middle of the park but Southgate thinks hes better than anyone else. Personally i would like to see Drinkwater (when fit) start more with Dier or even give Wilshere a go.

He really is Gerrard mk2 then.

Least talented captain in the premier league? I would say so.
Least talented captain in premier league history? Maybe

Ray Wilkins has included him in his combined XI of us and Liverpool, some expert of football he is.

Hard to describe how much I physically hate watching him play football. I used to have the same thing with Gareth Barry for England. It's not just about being crap - England have had plenty of crap players, and United have had a few too. And I don't really get invested in England anyway. But watching that top-heavy, tunnel-vision, clay-footed donkey charging around trying to look important just makes me want to rip off my skin so I have something to cover my eyes with.

For what it's worth, I love watching him in Liverpool-United games. And even more so in Herrera match highlight videos.

His pressing and tackling is decent. That's his one good trait, he can disrupt the play of the opponent with his workrate.

I think that having Henderson in your midfield is ok if you have two very technically gifted midfielders alongside him, so he can be the water carrier. The problem with Liverpool (and England) is that they often play with a midfield of 3 water carriers. That just doesn't work.

For every one decent pass Henderson makes between the lines, there are countless times where he either misplaces a pass or passes it sideways/backwards. If he's your main source of creativity, then you're in big trouble.

An absolute donkey. I think I'd cry if a player of his averageness was our Captain.

Remember that time at the start of last season when Liverpool fans argued at length that he was better than Pogba, and they based their argument on the fact that he made a few more passes (mostly sidewards and backwards might I add)

Damn he never stops moaning either, it's unbearable. Imagine playing with a player who is so rubbish yet he complains and moans about everything.

I don’t think anyone tried to claim Henderson was the better player, but he did have a better first half of last season.

I’ve not been his biggest fan for a while though. He’s too weak in 50/50’s and his choices when picking a pass frustrates me.

Saying Henderson is better than Pogba should carry a jail sentence.

He's dreadful when injured. And that is quite often nowadays. We played with ten men all game and unfortunately someone told Sevilla this at half time, who promptly took off Nzonzi yet still out numbered us in midfield.

Finally speaking sense, wholeheartedly agree.

Holy shit. I had no idea how terrible Henderson and Wijnaldum actually are until I paid attention to them today.

He's fecking useless and he's probably still going to make the England World Cup squad.
As much as I don't rate him I think he needs to go. Our opions in midfield aren't great and he at least comes across as an influential character in the dressing room, a bit like Cahill.

A 56% pass completion rate for a central midfielder..

He should be taken around the back of the Kop and shot. Utter dross.

I wouldn't take him. The options aren't great but there's definitely better and more effective midfielders than him imo.

He's dreadful. Liverpool need to replace him from the starting 11, but will Klopp drop his captain?

I'd laugh if this wasn't obvious for seasons now (that's he's mid-table player at best). Scores the odd long-ranger though so that counts apparently.

Still hilarious he was made club captain.

Influential? At what? What has Henderson actually achieved in his career?

Englands midfield should be Winks and Dier at the base, with Rashford, Sterling, Alli and Kane ahead of them. If Henderson is even on the bench it's laughable.

Swap him and Tom Cleverley and you wouldn't notice the difference.

He is not captain material at the best of times. Us Pool fans are lamenting his lack of leadership. England need to find better.

I know exactly what you mean , certain players just give you that feeling. James Milner is also one of them. He has that cement legs look whenever he does anything with the ball..

Still remember scousers saying Pogba was worse than him. In my nightmares I hear "Hendo's a boss la".

It was incredible the way Liverpool persisted with him despite his woeful opening months and months and months. We give a little bit of structured criticism to the likes of Herrera and Mata, but those 2 are children's milk teeth compared to this 19th century set of dentures.
