Jonny Evans | 2011/12 Performances

Its like our younger players are made out of cotton. Him, Jones, Rafael and Smalling always seem to pick up knocks when they begin to play well.

He's a top defender, but he really can't seem to avoid injuries.

Hope people see how important he is to us. By far the best CB we have at bringing the ball out from the back. We struggled playing out when he went off. He gives us so much and had the most passes in the first half.

Hope he is ok and back soon.

Don't think he's been able to accurately pass forward all season. Hopefully he'll sort that out soon since he's usually very good at that. But I agree he should be first choice.

Really impressive today and dealt with everything that came at him. Carried the ball forwards well but could have improved his distribution a bit. Several times he could have played the easy pass to Carrick but I suppose its nice to see he is confident enough to press forwards.

That header where he cleared the ball for corner kick ... It was proper technical defensive stuff.

Shades of Rio there. That's what he would always do when a difficult cross comes in. A little touch to deflect the ball's trajectory and fool the attackers.

Was pretty good the whole match, but i think he should have done better with those Sagna crosses in second half. In normal circumstances those chances would have ended in goal. He was very poor there and we were lucky. Smalling and Jones on the other hand, flawless the 90min.

Erm, one of the two he defended perfectly and the other he was no where near.

Evans is just immense, great defender. I love Rio to bits, my favorite United player, but I do really hope that Evans has dislodged him now. (Cue someone telling me that Rio has a niggle?)

Passing was awful today, usually very good at controlling the ball and bringing it out from the back but that part of his game was awful.

Looking such a complete defender now. A real dominant display in a tough match.

Vidic and Evans would be my preferred centre half pairing now with Jones and Smalling getting games when resting either. I love Rio but I think he's moving towards the back of the centre half pecking order these days, as much because our younger lads are stepping up as his own decline, which is a good thing.

Yeah, not like him. Too slow picking an option today, a lot of hit and hope. Something to do with the nature of the match, I suppose. Not to worry, defensively excellent which is more important.

So chuffed for him, another fantastic performance. The glancing header in the second half stands out in particular. My highlight, though, is how he made Giroud his bitch in the first half. Got a little kick from the frenchman couple of minutes on then went hard on him thrice in quick succession, both aerially and on the deck which left Giroud not too happy to say the least.

Such a commanding figure, our Jonny.

Like Rio with the little header and Vidic with as you put it 'making Giroud his bitch'.

What I'm happy about is after a performance like this we are happy to criticise the imperfections in his game and still be positive. If that's an off day I'll take it.

Ive grown into a big fan of evans lately. Seems to read the situations better and makes intelligent forward passes. Always looking at the options and 9 times out 10 picks the right one. I am comfortable with him in our back line. More composure alongside either Vidic or Rio.

his composure on the ball and distribution from the back are top class. if he is fit then he should start. that's it.

A real leader at the back. Kept everything together in the second half without Vidic.

He had a 90% pass completion rate apparently.

Didn't seem like it to me. He hit numerous long balls and the majority of them were either overhit or straight to an Arsenal player. He seemed to hit them too hard and there was a lack of control of how he passed the ball. But it was very unusual for him to be like that as he's usually composed and slick.

I'm talking about Jones - now I'm in the wrong thread - feck.

Evans has improved but he still makes me very nervous.

What a last ditch tackle when Kiessling walked past Rio.

Rio's really annoying me though. So many lazy pieces of play.

I've been saying it for years in here and was getting some abuse for a while but he is simply top top drawer. Our fans seem to have accepted it, now we need the media to step up.

Best moment for him in that half was when he made one of Leverkusen's players slip and fall - he has the force - and progressed to make a great ball to Valencia. He's class.
