John Fleck

i;ve seen nothing of him to suggest that. Talented kid but he'll throw it away. My season ticket holding Rangers mate says he'll never be anywhere near Rooney. I believe him.

Well ive played FM2009 and am in year 2016... as i have seen the future im going to believe FM.

His development has completely stalled. I still think he's a decent prospect, but the Rooney comparisons were always far-fetched.

To be honest at the age of 18 not sure why he can't develop a good player, however you have to say if he was going places in a hurry he would be a first teamer for Rangers already.

he almost is a first teamer but he isnt doing enough with his starts to justify his hype. It's gone to his head pure and simple. It's amazing the talent that goes to waste based on this. How any young player can not see the work that the greats put in. Ronaldo, Kaka, Messi etc all work so hard in training and give everything. Make sacrifices to get to the top. Talent is not enough in football, more so in this climate of physicality than at any other time in football (IMO).

True. I think part of it is playing in a league like the SPL and the low level of technical skill required to be a first teamer. he can get away with having a trick here or there safe in the knowledge that if he keeps that up he can regularly make the first team.

You get the feeling a move to England would teach him alot about what it takes to step up to the next level. Once he trains with promising youngsters who are techinally far better than him he might get the message.

Technical ability is fixed, it cant be improved. You are born with a certain amount.

Fleck is very good technically. Its the improvements physically, and if his attitude can improve, that will decide if he becomes a great player.

:lol::lol:
So if i trained with a prem league coach for a month he couldn't teach me to trap a ball better then I do now?

SPL is of a decent quality. It's no premiership but it's easily on a par with the championship. This is underlined by the number of players who are very successful in the championship having come from the SPL. There are many examples of players who were pretty average or even from lower scottish devisions who are standouts in the championship.

That is some bullshit right there.

I think to a degree it is true. If you have great techincal ability you have it. If you are a pro you arent going to suddenly become a great technical player if you didnt have good technique to begin with.

However you can def improve but not by a massive amount, a lot is natural talent or has been aquired in your formative years as a footballer.

Apparently Fleck and Wilson, Ranger's decent looking young centre half, have knocked back the club's new contract offers. Both have been told they won't be played unless they sign, apparently, and both are holding out.

I don't know if Fleck's obvious talent as a young player will translate into success as an adult, but Wilson looks fairly composed so far. I wouldn't be surprised if someone snapped one/both up in this window or the next.

One of the nationals said that we were scouting Wilson, he's been getting excellent reviews so far.

I've only seem him a couple of times but for a 17 year old central defender he looked very impressive. given how young he is.

Holding down a first team place at Rangers at the age of 17 is an impressive feat, particularly for a central defender. In all honesty I've seen him make a number of minor mistakes but once he learns how to use his body against mobile or strong centre forwards he'll be a superb prospect. At the moment I'm more excited by his development than Fleck's. Wilson is exactly what Rangers need, because in 12-18 months time Weir (retired) and Bougherra (off to the Premiership) will be gone and he'll fill a gaping hole in the defence.

So Wilson ended up at the dippers.

What happened to this Fleck bloke? He's 20 now. Another tale of unfulfilled promise? Or is he still destined for great things?

This may be an extremely ignorant and basic point of view but if he's not taking the SPL by storm then he's probably not all he was cracked up to be.

I've just checked his Wiki, just 3 appearances this season and just 3 goals in his career.

You're right. At the moment he's just another example of an extremely promising youngster who has failed to the make the transition to the top level. Physically he has failed to develop and remains one of the slower and less fit players in the squad. His touch is good and he's got a decent strike but that on its own isn't enough. Interestingly the feedback from training is that Fleck is one of the best players, yet when he comes off the bench there's not a lot to get excited about I'm afraid.

With Naismith out for the season, there's a real opportunity for a player of Fleck's ilk to become established in the first team and link midfield with attack. However, it, like most of the other opportunities he's had, may well pass him by.

I heard he just gets pissed with his coke dealing mates and doesnt really give a shit about football. Terrible attitude. No one will ever know how good he could have been. at 20 you think maybe he'll still progress but not unless something drastic happens, he needs a brain transplant.

He was a youngster with some potential, but in all honesty, he never really was all that anyway. A major problem in Scotland is, because of the lack of talent, we're always quick to jump on any kid who looks mildly talented. Fleck was yet another example of this, and in the end, he has shown us that he was never really all that good anyway.

Currently playing against our reserves for Blackpool. Not really standing out either :(
